What is this part on my mt7? I need a replacement
AdamR28 replied to David Ciesla's topic in Trials Chat
Not available separately as it isn't designed to be removed. -
Mostly ride MTB these days, but when I do bust out some trials moves it's a 20". Have a fair amount of experience with all bike sizes / styles though. A Zero was my first 'proper' trials frame after a Merlin thingy and a Heavy Tools copy, then spent ~20 years working in trials.
-
It sounds like you'd be reet on either. Go street-y style (Inspired Flow / Fourplay / Hex) if you want something that feels a bit like your Zero and is fun just to mess around on!
-
Surely a Jitsie butt plug, err I mean seat tube plug, will do a similar job? 😛 /sarcasm Super good riding as always!
-
That's nice, Mike! Good mods too, everything you need, and the coloured calipers look sweet poking out. I think it must be (ex) trials rider MX-5 season... This is the baby 1.5 without many toys, and no mods (yet). Drives quite a lot like a Mk1, just with a more modern / less rattly feel.

Been trying that for the last 15 years 😅
-
Oops. The bend in that stay looks like an afterthought too. To be fair, all the frames with that disc mount position are a headache, but some work better and look better than others.

Welcome to the world of dealing with TMS! Hope you like the bike once you have it sorted.

Adam 'The Tart' Read's story on Gnarrative.com
AdamR28 replied to Duncy H's topic in Website Updates
Thanks Duncan, for taking the time to stick this up, and putting up with my hideous delays in responding! Ben, I'm glad you found it interesting. A couple of others have been in touch separately to say the same, so that's really warming. Peeps: be sure to check out some of the other articles on the site, written by some actually rad dudes -
Have you tried the same tests on other (open system) disc brakes? I have a feeling you might find exactly the same thing happens.
-
Agreed. Have been a few times and unless you get a crash right in front of your nose, it's boring apart from the noise of the first lap. The braking though... absolutely insane.
-
This is ages ago (like... 20 years), but I remember the program I used refusing to do rads sometimes, unless you added a tiny one first then increased the size. Weird, but might be worth a try.
-
Aahh. Does look fun up there. Makes sense about the frame. Really cool you experimented with it and it worked! Top marks
-
Noice Where's the non-Shipley location? Did the DIY frame get retired or meet the grim reaper?

We got keys to a new place yesterday. The easiest property transfer ever, but somehow the sellers solicitors managed to make it take 9 weeks. An old lady had lived here for about 40 years before going into a home, and the house hasn't been lived in for about 2 years. All her belongings are still in here, including stuff like tins of food, clothes, etc. Its pretty wild Great view from the bog though And the front garden is adjacent to a graveyard, so its dead quiet (ba dum tish). Time to slow life down a bit...
-
Fairly sure its tapered, but don't quote me...
-
Was hoping that video wouldn't rear its head... 12-years-ago me isn't a pretty sight
-
Tarty have some in, so I guess they'll be on the site soon. Looks like a great Echo Lite replacement, at a similar price
-
That's what I thought too - but I found them to dig in to the rim quite deeply, and you lose bite and power. Although... you said 40 grit. Are you using a solid disc or the 'flap discs'?
-
Yeah I don't think I really need to explain that Its just a big gear.
-
Ha. Good to see you. Hope you had fun!

Weight for a set of 60x 180mm ish plain gauge spokes is ~350g, so with these at just over 2g each, it's more than 200g saving (in return for about 10 hours of your life ). Not massive in real terms, but pretty huge if you look at it as a percentage.

A durometer and some brake pads: a hardness experiment
AdamR28 replied to La Bourde's topic in Trials Chat
Mark's right. I got confused! Thanks for clearing it up (and remembering the thought process behind it all). -
Try an old, used disc and literally just "tickle" the rim. Shallower, sharper grinds tend to work better. Downside is they need refreshing more often.

TartyBikes lists hardness of all their brake pads in the product listing too. Though this offers more information about brake feel (in terms of "squish') than it does performance or longevity.
