  1. Off to Blyton Park this weekend to do passenger rides for the Mission Motorsport guys at the MX5 owner's club bash, looking forward to it! Also trying for a world record attempt on the Sunday, most single make cars on track at any one time... They are hoping to get over 200 I think!
  2. They do, but they are usually pretty expensive. Jerry cans for the win! No probs. You have got it right there, it's allll about the corners! A novice evening or two would be absolutely perfect - not long enough to kill the car, but a good taster for how it feels. In fact, if you bought a car at the right price, and didn't like it, you would be able to flog it on afterwards and not lose anything - I know people have done this for drift days (actually made money on the car so the drift day ended up being 'free'!).
  3. ^^ Crikey, a sensible post Could maybe look at a drift day? The 'sidewaysness' of it feels like you are ragging the shit out of the car / a bit out of control, when in fact you might be going fairly slowly, so it's much kinder on the brakes (which you will most likely need to upgrade on any car before you take it on a track day). You don't need anything other than a lid for track / drift days, and no special license (normal road license is all you need). It sort of depends what you want from the car, but I would highly recommend a MK1 MX-5 for a track car. Yes, they are 'hairdressers cars', they aren't quick in a straight line (but pretty much nothing feels fast in a straight line once you are on track, unless it is absolutely ballistic, like 350bhp/ton+), but they are super reliable, cheap (to buy and run), and spares are plentiful. Old 106s and Saxos are pretty good too, but you can't take one on a drift day I fell into the trap of thinking I needed a 'fast' car for track days, but it's all about cornering speed, and the satisfaction of sticking with / passing something that's got twice the bhp is mega!
  4. That Top Gear episode glossed over a LOT of stuff... Cheapest race ready car could be bought for about £3.5k I reckon, a race MX-5 would be £5k+ usually. You could build cheaper if that's your bag though. Safety gear (helmet, overalls, gloves, boots) and race license will be thick end of a grand too. The car will need an MSA approved roll cage, fia harnesses and seat, fire extinguisher, battery cut off. Cheap and motorsport don't really go together, track days might be a better starting point... Fire me an email if you wanna know more dude
  5. Pretty sure the crow's nest is detachable / can be reduced in height, or it wouldn't go on the ferry! haha
  6. You need the impossible car Clio 172/182/197 with the rear seats removed? The Meganes seem pretty sweet too.
  7. That is amazing, very very good value for money! Cheers. £10 a corner sounds reasonable, see if you can offer cash to someone to do it during a lunch break
  8. Not bad! Get a jockey wheel on there You can remove your hanger too
  9. Good stuff. How much are those going for at the moment?
  10. That was really sweet.
  11. Jonny Jones does ours - www.ubersticky.co.uk. Very happy with em!
  12. Any kind of business, yes
  13. As Alex above, Angry Thread has gone so this'll have to do! Went to a main stealer to look at a few vans last week. Person I 'needed to speak to' wasn't there, nobody had access to any keys, so I left some details and was promised a call. Nothing. Called the same place today to arrange to go and see a particular van. Went round, person I'd spoken to earlier that day wasn't there, hadn't told anyone else I was coming, and all the keys were locked in the safe, to which nobody had access. Bloody useless!
  14. Bit of a blast form the past here, but I just had a reason to come back to this thread. The hub you returned Gary, we gave it to Cap to get him out of a tight spot, worked fine for months. I calculated that the splines were still ~9 times strong enough (using the breaking load of the chain to create a torque around the sprocket), which is good to know.
  15. That should have said 'these bars', oops! And by that I mean the Onza Caron Risers from a few years ago, not the Trialtech/Try-All/Rockman etc bars.
  16. Don't forget the 47.5% anti dumping duty! (Although I have a feeling such a seller would mark the value down to reduce tax/import fees.) At least they are honest about the bike having no warranty - that is better than most other unofficial dealers.
  17. They bars are about 80% aluminium with a thin carbon wrap. The carbon is stiffer, so when the bars flex it cracks the carbon, but the aluminium is totally fine. From a professional point of view I have to say they need changing - from a personal point of view, that is totally normal and they will still last for ages unless you are going huge. Pretty much every set did the same and I haven't heard of a set breaking.
  18. This is really strange - I have a couple of sets and Stan has some too, both of us have only experienced better braking than standard all the time. Mine are better in the wet than the standard ones too! Maybe they are more sensitive to contaminants? What rotors are you guys using?
  19. Can't find the old topics (on my phone) but that is normal and you can stop it, have a search
