Well, the force ends up at the flange via the spoke whether you have a disc brake or not And at least with a disc brake the torque is equally (pretty much) spread between all 16 trailing spokes, whereas a harsh landing only transfers into the few spokes opposite the impact.

Seen him ride in the flesh? Shimano did something similar a few years back, the spokes broke fairly quickly which is why they don't do them any more...

Horizontal dropouts, normal 'round hole' disc mounts, that's all you need.

It'll be 356 I think, then nearer 358 with the chain stretch. You can't put 'proper' geo sometimes or it blows people's minds not seeing round numbers If you have vertical dropouts, you will need some sort of tensioner, because of the chain stretch. 2mm extra length makes a chain VERY flappy.

1% chain stretch = time to change it. So that's... about 2mm for a 400mm chainstay.
