  1. Cheers Robin! That's what I had been expecting to find one for, what sort of mileage is acceptable on these? I have found complete cars for £4-500 with under 150k on them. I don't intend on buying one to do a full rebuild on if I can help it, so I don't mind paying a little extra for low mileage if it's worthwhile. Speedo wise I guess I could go for a 944 box which gives an electronic signal, I assume that's all I need? Sounds easier just to get it coded out though and would keep the original look which is something I'm keen to do unless I can reduce the original clocks in any way so that they can be tucked away somewhere? Ideally I'd have the engine as sorted as possible with all the parts I'd need so I can get it swapped in very quickly when I have all the parts+some money for any unexpected purchases
  2. I'm not really interested in having a super high BHP car, I don't track it and I don't want to drive like a willy. I just want something a bit pokier than the 2.0 125bhp stock engine that compliments the chassis and it's running gear, otherwise i'll be running into silly money and I can't justify that as I have 2 other cars waiting for attention!
  3. How much should I be paying for a complete 1.8T (inc. all ancillaries, turbo, loom and ECU) from a Passat/Audi (needs to be a longitudinally mounted one)? Should I be looking to stick with the stock loom and ECU or going aftermarket? I would like to start acquiring parts as soon as we get the keys to the house we bought, not in a huge rush but wouldn't mind getting stuck into it quite soon! Not sure if it'll go in my 924 (likely) and keep with the standard map or if I will fit it to a 944 (less likely) with the bigger brakes and stuff already fitted allowing for more ponies instantly. Alternative engine suggestions welcomed for the 924, I did also have a Saab 2.3T in mind but I fear it'll be too much power and weight for such a dainty little car, 150-170bhp is probably more than enough for it
  4. Just standard ones? If they are from an early standard a3 then it's a bit high, could of got Porsche tombstones for that!
  5. Moto diggers felt really good on it out back. The Tioga is fine, i'd just replace the Kenda personally as it's a bit rigid.
  6. Looks great now, good job! I'm glad you are enjoying it and that is etting you back into enjoying riding, it really is a whippy and fun frame! It may feel a little more forgiving as it has quite thin Reynolds tubes upfront
  7. I always thought Dave was pretty nice....
  8. Tried to bleed the clutch, reservoir is full, some very dark oil from the bleed nipple and that's about it. Took off the inspection cover from the clutch and there's no sign of oil, suggesting my problem is the master cylinder although there is no sign of oil there either?! Anybody with more knowledge got some ideas?
  9. Started the Astra a few mins ago and tried the clutch and gears, the clutch feels waaaaaaay too light and gets slightly heavier at the first few degrees of depression after a few pumps, and it won't allow me to push it into gear as if the clutch is engaged. I'm wondering if its actually the slave at fault and its been leaking. Presumably an easy way to find out is to try and start the car in gear (currently a gate and my Porsche in the way ) and if it moves the clutch isn't necessarily dead (but probably close to being dead if it is covered in oil) ? EDIT: Just jacked it up and started it in gear and it has drive (found it hard to start in gear which i assume is a kind of good sign?) although I can't test if the clutch is slipping currently. I can shift through the gears with the wheels in the air clutch less, is that normal?
  10. Seems as though the astra is a 120 16v, as it has all silver badges and the oil fillers on the rhs of the engine. I'm actually happier about that after reading how shit the 150s are. Cars in good condition which is cool, seems to of been taken care of. Hopefully the strip down can start soon, just got a ton of marking to do for school first
  11. I didn't realise my name could cause such a fuss. George i'm not entirely sure...i'll find out when it arrives here it had the same 17s on it as yours did iirc, does that mean much? I'm hoping it'll cost me no more than 1k to fix, no other known issues with it so should be a tidy profit. I
  12. Rolling resto is best I find, that's what I'm doing with the Porsche. I get to enjoy it everyday as well as make decent progress. Each little change I get to enjoy and it feels instantly more rewarding than having it sit in the shed for 5 years whilst I get round to it. Relying on it as a daily makes me get on with it and gives me enthusiasm/no f**king choice but to do it
  13. Not quite done the FULL strip down but near enough with a mini (mucho welding and respray, etc). It takes more time than you would ever think, takes up loads of space, more money than you think (especially when you start doing conversions) and although there is lots of satisfying elements there are also massively disheartening and crap sides to it to that you have to really try and push through, staying motivated is key. I'm going to do a full strip down soon on my Commer as it'll be easier to work on, but that's only because its a sieve, otherwise i'd do the minimum Edit: Bought that Astra for £600, should be getting it collected tomorrow. Didn't really want another clutch job but meh, should be some easy money
  14. 2005 Vauxhall Astra 1.9 SRI 120bhp 4 months tax 7 months MOT 136K Black 3 Door Now due a service Broken clutch (potential dead flywheel too according to the clutch place it has been towed to) Been offered this by a work colleague for £750, room for negotiation on price too as she needs it gone ASAP (Reckon I can get it for £600+150 ish to get it towed back to mine). It's obviously a tempting price to sell on but what should I realistically expect from this if I want a quick sale once fixed? I'm guessing I can fix it for £3-400 using a mixture of new and secondhand parts+ a service. Anything else I should be looking out for on these? I know the 150s have weak bearings in the boxes, do these have any similar issues? I don't want to keep it as i'm not interested in it, just fix it and get rid really
  15. Teacher: Usually do 8-5 Monday to Friday, then 1-2 hours each evening and a full day of my weekend too, so usually 65 hours ish+
  16. Yeah the Carreras and Voodoos are very good value for money, also worth checking out Rockriders (from Decathlon) too. Try and avoid FS bikes at that price, they will either be low spec or fairly worn out although there will occasionally be some way under priced bikes that need snapping up!
  17. Pretty amazing what around £300 gets you secondhand, I wouldn't look at spending any less though unless you don't mind investing a load into replacing drive trains and stuff. If you are only doing smooth stuff then do you really need suspension? Fatter tyres may be more suitable for the terrain you are describing Which Giant do you have? It may be that you can upgrade it for very little to make it more into what you want it to be
  18. Yeah warming up the paint will help make it more flexible and it will be less likely to crack
  19. Why does everybody else see a Commer and not me? Never seen one in the tin apart from mine! Hot rod kinda thing is what i'd like to own, but then i'd like to own many vehicles :$ Looking for a 944 with a dead engine currently for my next project
  20. I'd love something that old! Wasn't the owner a trials rider and on here at one point? Wheels are now on, haven't totally taken to them yet but they will probably grow on me
  21. Sprayed my wheels, but can't really afford balancing until I get paid next week so that's kinda annoying! Rolling on spare wheels anyway
  22. I fancied doing the wheels as they have been looking a little tired and i'm fed up with silver. Fortunately I have spare wheels I can fit whilst I do the job so the cars not out of action  I have now got yellow filler primer on as I realised the grey will make the gold look quite dark, fingers crossed it all looks nice when done! Going to do the other 2 tomorrow as I have the day off, then I need to find a suitable top coat
  23. Yeah looks like you might be a bit f**ked then
  24. Or just admit you were speeding if anything does come about it? We all do it I know but we all know the speed limits too and chose to break them.
