Its worth buying a dimpled reflector, this reduces the harsh bright spot in the centre, think mine was about £4 posted so not exactly a costly upgrade!
-
Yeah no smoke at all, its all spot on apart from oil chucking which makes my exhaust and rear bumper look a bit skanky! Car is on 88k which is heading towards the high end but it shouldn't be this bad yet
-
The trouble is the car is now using a litre of oil every 2-300 miles depending on the way I drive, that's not a healthy sign!
-
Awfully tempted to bid on this, it's not even that far away from me too! Means mine can stay original and I can go make something a bit more special http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/porsche-924-944-turbo-replica-includes-/321523228025?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4adc471d79

I've had a turbo failure before on my Saab, just lost power and spat oil, fortunately nothing broke and the car was fine after a brand new replacement. The Audi is performing fine, but I know something needs to be done soon as i'm hammering through oil now Fingers crossed the Porsche passes tomorrow and then I can quickly fit up its new bits then take the Audi off the road for a strip down, i'm guessing the turbo will be a sod to get to on a 2010 1.8T?
-
I'm fairly sure the turbo seals on my A3 are gone, there is lots of little black specks on the back of the car suggesting its spitting oil. Just how hard is it to rebuild a turbo? Or should I avoid this and have mine rebuilt or buy a brand new one? I had heard that rebuilds have a bit of a high failure rate, I'd rather just buy a new one if that is the case

I can draw up a wiring diagram for you, it's not hard at all to fit something like this! I'm fairly shit at car fixingy stuff so if I can do it then you guys certainly can...
-
I mentioned all this a few months back never seen it done before but it certainly makes sense for a cheap yet effective upgrade! If you use just an MP3 player you could bypass your headunit altogether...

I have a creative 4.1 sub and the spare 2.1 is the same basically, they are the kind of thing most people have tucked in their attic or give away on free ads. Both subs are designed to run off 13v but a 12v car system is fine. I use the remote wire from the head unit (can use any feed that's live with the ignition) to trigger a relay which then Supples the power to the sub. The feed for the signal is from my headunit however you can use those things that splice into the speaker wiring too if you don't have that. I have the sub remote tucked into my arm rest so I can adjust it if needs be. I can take photos tomorrow if you like (it's at the garage for its MOT tomorrow), it's pretty basic stuff though! Can always add the speakers to the sub for some extra volume although that's not necessary if you have already upgraded. I will be using a similar setup on my camper and truck as it's more than good enough
-
Mike if you are looking for a little extra punch then try fitting a 12v computer subwoofer. I have one in the porsche and it's fantastic! Cost basically nothing, built in amp, compact and gets bassy enough for a car.

Cool on the wiper, also got faulty headlight washers but don't have xenons so that's no issue I'll test the socket tomorrow, got some spare switches somewhere too.... It'll be reeeeeeet
-
Managed to get time to do some pre mot checks, top mounts fixed, exhaust fixed and a few bulbs replaced out back (they were working last week!). Rear fog isn't working but I'm wondering if the engine has to be running for it to operate but didn't want to disturb the neighbours at this time of night (my cars fairly loud). My intermittent wiper isn't working but the other speeds do... Will that be an issue?

Got my porsche booked in for an mot on Thursday, got a horrible feeling it will fail on emissions and even worse I have a bad feeling they will fiddle with settings to get it to pass without knowing what they are doing, eurgh. If it's a bad failure then I'll keep the Astra until the engine has been swapped for the1.8t/audi 2.3t, don't want to pump more money into an engine I'm not keeping
-
JD search for CJ Autos, they are the people who sell them
-
Dan definitely get your geo checked out, my back end on the Porsche is out and it makes it a bit of a handful when at higher speeds. I'm putting it off until I have changed my subframe mounts and fitted my rear ARB (fits to my eccentric bolts for castor), seeing as both these things result in altering it again...

I have the hydraulic version. They are made of solid chunks of metal however the welds are fairly ugly and the paint finish isn't great. The upside is they are very cheap, they function well and they make working on the so much better as they get very high. There isn't really anything else that competes with them in terms of price and space taken up. Buy some!

A good bike shop can retap the bb, but reaming it and fitting an insert gets a bit more specialist. There used to be Argos cycles who did that kind of thing, I assume they exist still. You could make/modify a brake adaptor that utilises your 4 bolt brake mounts with m6 bolts assuming you can get an m6 helicoiling in there
-
Have you tried fitting a proper helicoil insert into the mounts? Or are the holes too mashed? BB threads may be able to be recut and saved, otherwise threadless square bbs are available or get the bb tube reamed out and a steel insert fitted Headset cup may have corroded to the frame and will be very hard to remove, could try using a hydraulic press?

I want to wash all 3 cars and make them look pretty, especially the Astra as I can now get the thing sold. What should I get? Currently I have Autoglym shampoo and wheel cleaner, then Demonshine to make them look shiny after a wash. I also have a machine polisher that I use with various cutting compounds that I've forgotten the name of but I have plenty of them so don't need any more right now. People seem to rave about Iron x, so I guess I'll buy some of that, I have a clay bar ready (will that be good for 2 good paintwork cars and one rough or will I need 1 for each?). What wax and sealant should I go for? I don't want to go mad, just make them look presentable. Also I would like to get them all from one place to save on postage, I noticed a site called clean my car mentioned on here before...are they the best in terms of product range and price? Prefer not to spend loads but will pay extra for something that lasts

Pretty much all cars have a stigma attached to them, daily is a poor mans Porsche and my A3 is a car for people who are superficial 'tards who can't indicate, however those who know about them realise they are actually decent. At least your car is interesting, you will eventually find you get far more positive attention from it, I know I get loads of thumbs up, waves and gawps at the 924 which always makes me smile
-
Robin-megasquirt price please
-
Was that for all 4 wheels? If so that is well good! I like the pics of your car, it is making me want to get one as my bitch car whilst the Porsche has surgery
-
Ah balls, I though by small engine you meant 1.2 downwards! I shall get looking for a box, thank you ever so much for taking the time to type all that info out, your knowledge level on this stuff is ridiculous! I need to find that link, now my house is nearly done I can sink my teeth into this project Edit: front facing starter on before would be ideal as otherwise I have to chop some of the bulkhead out iirc.

I think I have a mk3 golf 4 speed off a 1.4 sitting in my shed still... Potential winner!
-
Legend! So if I use the spare 1.9tdi block, clutch and flywheel I have to use as my jig for my bellhousing adaptor then it'll fit a 1.8t? If so that's great as it means I can make progress without rushing to find an engine and hopefully score something decent I shall get hunting for a dead 5 speed then!
