I would certainly be interested, cheers Jardo! I'm actually going to look at a 944S locally tomorrow for £850, but it needs an MOT... I'm hoping I can keep the 924 as well and just tuck it in a shed until I'm ready to give it some proper attention, just like the other classics I own

Chucked some new oil and a filter in the Porsche, adjusted the front wheel bearings as the ns was rather loose and gave it a good wash. Not sure if it is a placebo effect but the car felt very sprightly and nimble this evening Must have lost some weight after its wash

Looks good Ed, we need to ride again soon!

I've got an 06 Astra H hatch (1.9 16v) and it's been a good little motor so far. It's not my first choice of car looks wise but it was filthy cheap and easy to work on (I've done the clutch, wishbones and cambelt)

Good work Mike, it is really satisfying when you get through something like that which appears really challenging at first, you'll be swapping your engine by yourself in no time It's all just nuts, bolts, brute force and logic.

Parts fitted Just need to work on the fit of the bike (i'm currently fiddling with the seat positioning, feels better further forwards oddly) although i'd say it's pretty much how I want it to feel now. I'll invest in SPDs and shoes at some point. Now to rack up some miles!

Thats purrrrrrrdy!
-
My new cassette is smaller I don't need the expander style 8 speed that's on there now!
-
I'll keep you in mind if I ever do. Ordered a new chain (spare was too short) and front brake, bike should be ready to go by the end of the week.
-
Collected it, well chuffed for the money! I've been scavenging in my parts box and found some fresh cables, carbon seat post, alloy spider cassette, new chain, some better seats (i'll buy a spoon though as I like them) some flats (i'll save for SPDs at some point) and lightweight rotors ready for when I get suitable forks/rear mount It has some pretty beefy wheels on it, perfect for cylocross, they weigh an absolute ton so i'll see if I can get some cheap light hubs later on or even a second wheelset. I need a front brake, anybody got one spare? Looking forward to getting this rebuilt and ready for hoooooning

Yeah that seems to be the case but my budget won't stretch to that unless I do monthly payments. The Genesis looks spot on! Maybe that's what I can aspire to own if I get into this malarky! I saw a road bike on eBay earlier that fitted my budget and looked like I could make a profit off it if I didn't like it, my offer of £100 was accepted for this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261857436022?_trksid=p2060353.m2763.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I have a spare wheelset to put on it, although it would be pretty funky to get some disc forks and an A2Z adaptor and run my spare disc brakes!

I'm feeling the urge to have a road bike, however I'm not really sure what I want/need as its a territory of cycling I haven't ventured much into. I'm not interested in going really fast, and I find myself usually in the upright position when borrowing friends bikes, so i'm thinking a flat bar setup may suit me-does that mean a hybrid may be more suitable? I quite like the idea of cyclocross and wouldn't mind the option to run knobblies however it seems most bikes can't take them. I'm 6ft2 so I guess I want about a 58cm frame? Ideally i'd like to spend no more than £150 on a secondhand bike, however judging by what I have found on Gumtree and Ebay there is naff all good stuff available for that, so realistically what should I be looking to spend to get something acceptable? Not after super light/modern stuff, but of course that would be a great bonus. Any help would be much appreciated!

Just installed it, my fan is no longer lethargic Infact it has never been this good! I could go with a simple on and off, but sometimes I like to spice things up a bit
-
I said infinitely variable, not infinite speed I don't need that much adjustment no, but £14 vs £85 seemed like a no brainer
-
Pulse width modulation circuit (PWM), allows infinitely variable motor speed. Getting a fan resistor for my car is silly money and these are £14 so it seemed silly not to install one as it wasn't much extra work. Unfortunately my previous one wasn't man enough and kept cutting in and out as it overheated so I went for a higher amperage one
-
My PWM interior fan controller kept cutting out...so I went for something a little more beefy!
-
They really are lovely forks, such a shame they are so short I almost want to build a light hardtail just as an excuse to buy them back
-
I guess if you rivet other stuff to the car it might look in keeping... or put it underneath, bondo the hell out of it and vinyl wrap it
-
Jardo, are you sure this is the result you want?
-
Love you dude, thanks a bunch!

Attention 1.8T folk Would any of you be kind enough to either measure/pluck from your knowledgeable brains the following: Distance from the centre of the crank to the very highest part of the engine (presumably the oil filler cap?) Angle the engine sits at (I know I can change this a few degrees but knowing the standard angle helps me decide on how to make this bell housing adaptor) Thank you in advance I saw the parts sitting outside my house and figured I should really get moving on with this!
-
My Astra has been vague on the steering recently and had a lumping when turning at times. Turns out my wishbone bushes have a rather shocking amount of play in them! I've ordered enough stuff for a full overhaul (minus springs and shocks) and I'll get it tracked along with new tyres as these current ones are tripe. Money I didn't want to spend on it but i'd rather it was safe
-
Just save as a sketchup file and I will do the rest. Make sure you are working in MM, I can only do 130x130x130, so some pieces may have to be designed in 2 parts if they get too large! MK1 of my chain guide, can't find photos of the revised version!

Yup, got one of the printers at my house this week and next so send over the file and i'll get it sorted

If it won't get hot I can 3d print it
