  1. i see what you mean boyo, and now im slighly miffed, there must be some sort of braket that exends it, cos the callipers themselves are all the same size, if you catch me drift? ive never had to actually use the hayes mounts, only the is probs best asking somebody with manitou forks :)
  2. could be a 1 off.....but yeah i can see where you are comin from-its off putting, they will allow you to have half its value towards a different frame though
  3. seconded, mines amazinly nice :-
  4. eh? you mean told them that they were secondhand? doesnt make a diference-he claims they have never offered a warranty on them as that would be silly? seems a bit sus really.... i assume the frames are repaired whoever owns them-at least they last a bit longer :S
  5. nicely done chap  that bike photo couldnt get any cheesier (N) love it
  6. im now running judy xcs on my base cos my curtis forks snapped and they are surprisingly nice! they are currently running at 100mm travel, with standard (seem very soft) springs and very slow rebound-they make things like rolling gaps and wheelswaps odd at first but once you are used to them they can be used as an advantage im gonna shorten them to 80mm and stiffen them up so they are comparable to dirt jumper forks (not not as gay looking (N) ) i doubt i will stick to suspension, its only a temporary solution till i get new forks but its definately worth a try
  7. not a happy bunny...... curtis wont replace forks, gary says there is no warranty on them at all, and they arent repairable-apparently thats the first he has heard of his forks cracking at the disc mounts too its f**kin ridiculous, im not buying another pair-way too expensive and im sure there must be better ones out so ermm any ideas? ive been advised the new fatties and echo urbans but im a bit worried about using alloy forks if i can screw over steel ones so easily.... perhaps i shud try suspension out again (Y) EDIT: o yeah and gary didnt even seem to give a shit, he didnt even sound shocked.....
  8. good choice-i run those bars in that size on my stock-frickin lovely (Y)
  9. bigger disc everytime!!! unless you ride a mod and are about 6 stone.... bigger discs are well worth the extra money, you wont regret it (Y)
  10. i was reading up about the juicy, apparently they feel amazing, but lack bite, which for me is very important on a front trials brake however i cant see how you arent happy with your avid, i run a avid 185 with an ultimate lever and nokon cables and its frickin amzing ok its an expensive setup but everyone who has used it has commented how bloody light and smooth it feels-and the power is immense-i think thats worth a go as hydraulics feel heavy after using this setup i used to run an xtr on some avid cable on my old 160 avid-and that felt silly nice too try out a juicy, they do sound good and we may be all surprised, the camino however im unsure about, like mentioned they are a bitch to bleed, but hayes brakes for me have always been very reliable, so you will probably never have to rebleeed it...well not for ages anyway
  11. if thats the case then its kinda understandable why they broke, jon didnt make me aware of them being 3rdhand though, so ill have to ask him im guessing that they wont be fixed due to the crack on the left leg (Y) yeah thats an idea :D i dont think identity tuning forks are the same as pashleys, they are infact slightly larger tubing from what i could tell visually-may be wrong though. pashleys are useless to me anyway, i need a disc mount-no way am i going back to a rim brake at the front!!! strangely the main thing that pisses me off is the fact im cracking the disc mounts at the welds, i didnt hurt myself luckily, it was actually kinda funny, its a pity they dont make it 1 piece with the leg, may cure the problem for a bit longer ill post some pics once i work out how to get them up, ive never tried before EDIT: jon says he got them new, they werent porters
  12. rity snapped my curtis forks today at the steerer/crown interface :) they are 6months old, jonpace had them originally, and i got them around a month ago since i got them, i havent really used them a huge amount, havent had time :) and jon says he hasnt been rough with them at all it seems as though the failure is more of a material one rather than workmanship as its not at the actual weld, its reasonably close though, although i found a crack at the top of the disc mount as far as im aware of, they are the normal versions, not the thickened steerer ones, but i may be wrong-if jon replies to this he can clarify anyways im really confused how they have failed so soon, they are advertised(and many say) that they are among the toughest forks out, yet i manage to mess them up in no time(im almost 13 stone and over 6ft-but i think many of us are around that) i dont do big stuff, i havent front bumped with them, no hooks and i can only do 2 front hops on the rare ocasion i try :"> i have only really done very small gaps to front wheel-not even a bike length, i admit im not silly smooth but im also not ultra rough on the front wheel, usually its the backwheel stuff i struggle to stay smooth on. this weekend i have been riding skatepark stuff, but it was mainly just rolling around as all i could do was blunt things and spin around :"> i run a 185 avid disc upfront which may be part of the reason behind the disc mount cracking as my last forks-idenity tuning forks-cracked above the mount too which received the ame sort of streses as these this isnt a dig at curtis bikes, i still think they make some of the best parts around, and i like thier stuff, but it seems a common problem wih most peoples forks, usually alloy ones though i have no doubt they will replace them free of charge, and id love to try some more other than the topic question, my other question is: have lots of others had a similar problem? i know of a few people who destroy forks regularly, but they ride large stuff as far as i know of anyways any constructive comments would be of help, ive tried to be as detailled as possible! cheers, paul
  13. well i was impressed with the riding, pity it wasnt longer and properly downloadable i really like his style, bring on more akrigg vids
  14. the fact that you are using a deore brake makes it far more impressive! well done ^_^ good pics too :P
  15. maguras are far too inconsistent, overpriced and an arse to set up! get a decent vee: sdy calliper on an xtr lever/avid ultimate set up with nokon cables and some heatsink pads if you need any extra power or a disc: avid 185 on an xtr/avid ultimate lever and nokon cable or a hope mono trial simple matey ^_^ id go for my set up anytime-avid 185(160 lacks hold-had 1 before but im almost 13 stone), nokon cable and a ultimate lever (used to have xtr and that was sweet too :P )
  16. high roller single ply is good :S im running it in you old curtis forks (only just fits!!!) its comfy, reasonable in weight and i havent pinched it yet, although it hasnt really had many hard knocks
  17. looks good, but its the same as every other bash ive seen to be honest.... im not saying its bad but is not very original, but hey-why fix what aint broken? the price is ok, but i think the competition is a bit cheaper such as dmr and truvativ (i think they only come with the cranks though) alo a 22t version would be more preferable-very few people use a 32t except for norhshore type chaps and the odd dirtjumper(including myself) as long as its proven o be touch and perhaps came in a few colours and different sizes (if you make a gold 22t one pm me (Y) ) they will sell are you aiming for a uk market? if so how are they gonna be disributed?
  18. to be fair i use the majority of those tools....and also quite often-but i do build bikes for people lol
  19. cant go wrong with a nokon cable! expensive but will totally transform your brake!!
  20. deores anyday! had 3 sets, 1 messed up cos the bb snapped and took a huge chunk of taper with it (Y) and the other 2 sets i sold, still worked fine though, dahhhnhillallalaal had 1 set of mine so ask him ;) they are light, cheap and work fine, may be worth lookin at the octalink versions as they are prob stronger in the bb department (i hate square tapers :) ) power pros on the other hand..................RIP lol
  21. presumably you can take any removeable brake arch off a fork and use it? if so now i have a use for my old rst forks (Y) yay! although the marzocchi ones far look the best and are probaby the stiffest(bloody good design)
  22. had a avid 160 on a xtr lever-felt wicked-really powerful and only started slipping due to the pork pies ive been eating :"> now got 185 on an ultimate lever with nokon cable-fooook me its lush, smooth as you like, bloomin powerful with very nice modulation (more modulaton than my hydro hopes) and a great amount of bite, i love it (Y) i havent really had enough experience to comment on the mono trial, although i was impressed when i used one-it was still breaking in though so im guessing they must be equally as good if not better o and defo get at least a 185 rotor, even if ur light (Y)
  23. if it makes any difference marcs got himself an echo team, so ermm maybe some people who own them could say what they run? doubt it makes much differnce though :) if at all

    Tyres

lol they are hefty gits, but an intense blurr is a very hardcore tyre that will never pinch however low you run it...well im pretty harsh at the ebst of times anyway o and ive had mine a year and its still like new, even after being ridden low on the road for a few miles :) tis good
