Can you get away with drilling them out and then using exhaust paste to seal? Radiator looks fine, it's been flushed through and there wasn't any significant poop in there. The car sits at 90 degrees when moving suggesting the thermostat is doing its thing, it's only when stationary that the car gets hot. It did stay on the next stage above 90 (I guess about 110 ish) after sitting in traffic and then hitting the dual carriageway it didn't really budge down to 90 until about 15mins later...weird! Thermostat, fan switch and coolant have all been changed in the past year. Could a dieing water pump cause my issue at all?

So I got a 'new' radiator fan on my car but the overheating in traffic still persists, the old one was properly knackered though! I'm wondering if I have air in my radiator and the fan sensor isn't touching the coolant and therefore takes ages to actually get hot, the car isn't going into the red anymore but is worryingly close. I have bled the system numerous times as I thought this may be the issue but with no luck, perhaps I should do a pressure bleed?

Paid Cheers Luke and Adam! -
Not a terribly hard job to do yourself, I did mine by myself over a few evenings (1.9CDTI Astra H)

I like gold and red, looks classy. Have you got centre caps?

Been on confused, not much luck. I'm with Adrian Flux on a classic policy but the changes I want to make means a classic policy won't cover me Modifications: Front seat change Remove rear seats Different wheels Half cage Exhaust Coilovers At a minimum I need the seats covered as they are already done along with wheels and coilovers
-
Modified policies, which companies did you guys have success with? Adrian Flux aren't coming up with a nice price

Little DH section near myhouse, I only got halfway before jumping into a berm awkwardly, sliding out and dislocating my shoulder and breaking my helmet (not my penis one fortunately). That hurt somewhat, nearly as much as my back operation did

Mike, an amp will help loads as well decent wiring to go with it, if you go that route add wiring for a sub just in case. A decent headunit such as the older Alpines with the 60W per channel may suffice and be cheaper/easier for you. I run a computer subwoofer (Creative) in the Porsche with stock speakers from1983 and a cheap Pioneer headunit, it sounds very good and cost naff all! On another topic I can't drive for 2 weeks after dislocating my shoulder, FML.

It has an 11" fan in a shroud, but mounting any other after market fan in the same shroud will be more work than its worth. I'm thinking maybe I should just plump up the cash for a standard fan again but I don't want another knackered one! The standard one was more than good enough when it was working, it was just I figured more room+ better cooling can't be a bad thing. It's just a bit disconcerting when sitting in traffic and it goes into the red, normal driving and hooning the temps are stable so the cooling system seems to be effective. I will 1.8T it in the future, just I have to postpone it as I want to know where I'll be living in the near future before starting on it.
-
Do I go for a single 12" radiator fan or a twin 10" set up? Currently it has an 11" fan but theres enough room to fit a 12" which I might as well do as the shroud wont fit anyway... DECISIONS! No doubt I'll have to upgrade the wiring either way...

Ha ha, it's going ridiculously well dude, I am onto a winner! BBQ sounds an ace idea, or a nice little picnic with a blanket on the floor. -

£43 would be awesome, I'll have just got back from a holiday so my pockets not going to be massively generous. This now means I need to get the Porsche to work properly doesn't it? -

18s look good on E46s as long as they are lowered a bit, look at the front arch gap! Tyre wise, depends if you want a long lasting motorway mile muncher or a grippy tyre for spirited road driving? Give us an idea of your driving style Not ordered a slimline fan yet as I realised I had a twin fan setup from my/Georges old Toledo, I think it'll tuck in there nicely
-
The trouble with letting your battery go flat so often is it'll ruin it pretty rapidly therefore it is hard to say whether it'll be good enough for your journey. 30mins driving should provide enough charge on a non duff battery to crank over a warm engine, otherwise a cheeky bump start may be necessary! It's not good for your alternator to keep making it try and charge up a flat battery, try and find the cause of the discharging or disconnect the battery as already recomended
-
I'm guessing like for like size, can't really go any larger than the rad!
-
Good call, I'll try and source another, only a few bolts and a plug innit. Seeing as I intend to fit a different engine is it worth me fitting a low profile fan like a Kenlowe jobby?
-
The Porsche doesn't like sitting in traffic anymore, the temps rise rather a lot, doesnt quite make it beyond the red but usually hovers on the edge of it. Driving normally it sits happily at 90 degrees, suggesting the thermostat is doing its job. The radiator fan kicks in (new thermo switch too) and the system appears to be bled correctly (i've done it several times to check). The system was flushed 2 years ago and had very little sludge, with fresh red coolant whacked in after. I'm wondering if my radiator needs recoring or if my fan isn't drawing in enough air as it's perhaps getting a little old? Which sounds mosts likely?

Most scaff is alu! Only need 4ft or so, body weight is going to help too.

Got a good breaker bar and some scaffold pole? Hub nuts tend to be a total swine to remove
