  1. Yup it changes gear without the engine running, linkage is connected! Gearbox just crunches when the engine is on and clutch disengaged, suggesting the clutch isn't actually disengaging...
  2. I was driving back to suffolk and suddenly my car won't change gear. The clutch cable is not broke and I've adjusted it, the clutch appears to engage and disengage when the pedal is operated. The car will not go into gear, it just crunches suggesting I have a clutch issue... But I'm not entirely sure what it is? I replaced the clutch last Easter and it has done about 10k with no issues until now. Gears worked perfectly before so I'm a little confused! Any ideas of what I should be looking out for would be great, I'm currently waiting to be towed back to my parents farm
  3. Radiator fan on the Astra is seized...how long that has been the case is unknown! Fortunately no damage seems to have occurred, car runs a treat and the oil and coolant look fine!
  4. That mini looks sweeeeeeet! Golf? Check the alternator pulley, the clutch mechanism may be seized and therefore needs replacing otherwise it will cause you nasty issues later...
  5. Although true, I do have a house to finish renovating
  6. Do your parents deprive you of sex as well if you get new parts delivered then?
  7. Superlight or something, I'm not a fan of gappy wheels so yes I agree! It's what is under the bonnet that is interesting though!
  8. Yeah any that are body coloured have been painted, my sills are in spot on condition fortunately! I didn't need to re-index as I had enough adjustment on the eccentric bolt to take it down to the right height, worth checking that before putting the effort into lowering the rear beam/cutting holes in the sills! The supercharged 924 is a 2.0, it has a supercharger off some V8 muscle car on it, he is called Dr John on the owners club site.
  9. It's getting real lows, the tyres already sit in the rear arches
  10. Went to see my friend John to collect a bonnet and gearbox and check out his supercharged 924.I think my car needs to go lower and needs more oooomph!
  11. I think you need more elastic bands dan
  12. If you had stickers and stuff all over the place or some sort of dodgy home made splitter they would probably fit in well, but with your car looking so pristine and polished they just stand out too much as a weird thing you have whacked on If they were body colour they may look better as they wouldn't stand out as much
  13. Looks great George, well done on not modifying it! Oh wait...
  14. I've not had much chance to work on the car these past few days but I found a few free minutes this evening to get the last bit of sanding done on the rear valance and white primer applied, should be able to get the top coat on soon! And I sprayed up the tops of my rear shocks ready for fitting Current height, I plan on getting the back a touch lower then do the front to match
  15. J.Kydd: Check to see if the turbo has been replaced, I think it was up to that year that suffered from impeller blowing up issues. Get ready for the tackiest BMW interior ever encountered, it's cheap and nasty in there but does the job. Otherwise really good cars, my parents 2004 one has been near faultless in the 5 years they have owned it apart from needing the ECU refurbished due to water ingress, about a £700 fix in total but that's the only major thing that's happened (normal wear and tear parts aside).
  16. Just took the Porsche around the village roads and my gosh the front coil overs feel SOOOO good! Not only is the comfort still there (new 200lb springs vs stock 170lb) but the car feels firm and really responsive, I don't think I want to go to a harder spring right now. I need to adjust the top mounts a bit as they clunk slightly, but that's because they are for an american VW Fox so need shimming to work on the 924. The back end feels wallowy, so hopefully the dampers I messed about with will aid with correcting that.
  17. Front is back together again Exhaust is now tucked up higher and actually straight again Welded bush eyes onto the shocks (they had threaded tops), I just need some paint and a shim for the lower bush. Tempted by some Beetle rear shocks with added coils, cheap and allows me to stiffen up the rear suspension a touch without faffing with torsion bars... I'll see how these go first!
  18. Cheers Luke, Hopefully test them out later tonight once the cars back together! For the first time since fitting my new clutch (over a year ago now) I have a non mangled valance again, as my last one got caught by my dad when he helped me guide the engine back in. I am currently spraying up the badge panel and my rear valance is ready for primer which I'll collect tomorrow. Next jobs are to make a new exhaust centre mount so the exhaust sits straight, weld my exhaust tip as it rattles and measure up the rear shocks so that I can see if some 'sport' shocks from my old 9-3 fit Then the back can go down some more!
  19. Coilovers fitted, just need to settle then I can set them up. Bit of a length difference, my old springs were shorter than standard too. I've also been spraying the front valance, badge panel and rear diffuser. I can't wait to see my car in one colour again!
  20. Ever since buying my 924 I have wanted a rear valance but they are like hens teeth. An ad for a rear valance appeared at a bargain price on the owners club a few months after buying the car so I snapped it up straight away. Unfortunately It turned out to be a 944 rear valance and therefore is designed for the wider rear arches and also these aren't worth that much as they are fairly common. I gave up and tried to sell it but because of some damage to it people were put off. I decided today that I should try and fit it anyway and see what can be done about it. It's not finished yet but I'm chuffed that with not much effort I can get this looking how I want it to! So here is the issue, mega gap! Cut out some material and voila Whack in a plate and fill with expanding foam ready for glassing up I whacked in some rivnuts to the Porsche body and got the valance mounted just to check it all fits I've got an idea for a front setup to match but it's not a genuine Porsche part, fingers crossed it matches
  21. They look cool tom, I want a set of the new Beetle alloys with chrome caps but they aren't small enough to suit my car
  22. Sometimes it is quite nice to drive slowly for a bit, then you appreciate a hoon even more so
  23. I could get beyond 60mpg from my 1.9tdi cars...
  24. They are really fun to work on, I do enjoy tinkering with this car more than any other i've owned. I went with 200lb springs in the end (170 stock), I decided I didn't want to lose too much of the cars compliance as it's such a good cruiser. I can always buy some stiffer springs later on as they aren't exactly expensive! The Scirrocco coilovers will fit as IIRC they are Golf MK1/2 struts? MK1 fits directly and MK2 needs washers between the hub and shock. I'm running MK2 golf inserts on my Porsche bodied coilovers as they are shorter than Porsche inserts. I'll probably buy some decent coilovers at some point, I just like little projects like this as it's cheap and fun. By any chance did you take photos of the dash removal? I'd like to get mine out soon so I can rectify some old and some self induced issues in my loom, I just don't like pulling apart interiors! I'm also wondering about getting it leather wrapped or filling the massive cracks and getting it flocked potentially
