  1. Yer, i don't think it's an industry you can just jump into to be honest. You'd need the passion for it and probably need to skate or something like it to have the contacts in it if you get me? But i was more using it for an example of other things you could go into, dirt jump/downhill and other mountainbiking are all linked to trials for example and i'd be suprised if you don't know a fair bit about that scene.
  2. Yer, i'm just saying that from what i can tell skating provides alot more work in that sense and has a bigger (/better) arts scene . More focus on photography/videography/graphic design/deck graphics/branding etc so provides more jobs like that. Just as an example of how you can look further afield to something still strongly related to what you're set on being involved in
  3. Yer same, i always find it wierd how when i shoot local skateboarders (who may also be filmers so half into media or just generally read skate magazines more then i do) they always tell me to not time for the actual flip but for just before the catch when they slam their feet into the board I can never tell what's going on in skate photos of flips even though i'm pretty sure i know most flips. It wasn't so much the photoography side that i meant though, there just seems to be so much more artists and designers working in the skate industry. Board graphics and just general branding and art direction is thought about much more. One of the latest books i've picked up for example, 'Concrete to Canvas- Skateboarders Art' is just something you'd never find in bmx/trials/mtb and is full of artists/designers/illustrators who got into art through skating or work in skateboarding. Excuse my tangent, ooone to many tonight
  4. Looking at the title of this thread i thought we were on about just Fatpants in general........epic fail. To add to this, i reckon the other thing is to broaden it a bit. Not speaking from experience or anything but you're into trials so could look at similair things in mountainbiking where there will be alot more jobs (i doubt trials provides many jobs AT ALL in comparison). I'm into BMX but also have a bit of a foothold in skate so i'd absolutely love to work on the art side of a skate company where there seems to be alot more jobs then in BMX for example. Although in all industries like this it does seem to be alot about who you know to me. Networking.
  5. Who is jumpphotography? Just curious cos obv the site is down at the minute.
  6. *Goes to youtube to stir some more shit about Frika*
  7. You know i might even be on this if i'm free. Come down on the bmx, piss about an take some photos. I might be on holiday on the day though so don't put me down yet
  8. That said, we built a whole new jump at our old trails for someone to try flips. Basically a good sized take off and then a maassiivee pile of dirt where the landing should be but not packed at all (pretty chalky dirt with no stones made it VERY forgiving) and kinda going right up to the take off like a table. He got pretty f**king close first go but still ended up in a sling for a week or so (nothing major just sprained arm or summat). Has since learnt it on foam then resi an stuff.
  9. My mate snapped the middle connector thing that goes above the wheel (i dunno how to explain it, looks like a front booster lol) doing a foot high 180 out of a fly out at Harrow Then he got DJ1s and snapped them sharpish aswell Smooth rider so musta just been super bad luck.
  10. From my limited experience into a foampit (went in for a bit at Corby, kinda got flips after 10 goes or so but not confidently or nothing and then got bored of climbing out of the foam and waiting about so went to the street course) that second step isn't tooo good. Pulling the bars into you won't do alot as you need to kinda use your weight more then the bikes as you're alot heavier then the bike(even if your 14 and ride a 24" ). The people who land them seem to be the ones who don't arch their backs with the bars into their dick. That's just an upside down bar shag to head lander. The ones who land them seem to have their knees bent and crouch more as instead of just pulling the bike and hoping their body wiull go with it they pull their body so that the bike will go with it. I can't explain it, foam is reccomended but if your serious then i've seen people learn it on concrete. Never getting it first go but kinda landing to roughly two wheels and then collapsing, then getting it after about 5-10 of them.
  11. Now i've just gotta convince someone to come with me out of like, the 0 of my friends that are into decent Hip Hop.
  12. I'm gonna ask Homer if i can blag it through Passion but dunno if there's room or whatever. If not i'll go to the local paper cos they're always desperate for stories and The Subways (who are from Watford) are playing.
  13. I don'tcompletely agree with that to be honest. One of my best friends say is a really clever guy (got into best school in the area and did well for most of it) but around GSCE year just kinda blew out and had NO motivation. Messed around, dossed and generally had fun. Got allright GCSE's still and started A levels but about a month in just had no motivation for it. Teachers were giving him a hard time which made it even worse. Was fairly obviouse he wasn't going to achieve anything like his potential so he dropped out. Signed up to a job agency and is now working an office job earning £16,000 a year starting salary and low and behold is enjoying it and doing well. He won't achieve what he could have if he had had the motivation but he's happy with where he's at and is the kinda person who doesn't want to be a millionaire and would prefer to just enjoy life. Fair enough, what would have been the point in wasting 2 years getting low a levels (if at all)? For me personally and probably you too it's hard to understand how you can have no motivation for it and would say get on with it ect but some people just don't really suit education whether they're clever or not. It's not just intelligence you need but a concentration span and the actual will to learn what you're learning. I don't wanna say yer just drop out or whatever but it's something only you an decided with the help from people close to you. Sure get knowledge and opinions from here but take it all with a pinch of salt and try and really think where you can see yourself 10 years down the line if you take whatever path. Oh and you're near your exams now so at least get that done! If it was me personally who had worked a year then i'd prefer to just slog out the extra year to get the full thing but your choice.
  14. Way i see it was that i smashed GCSEs and school is going well so i've stayed on for A levels and then wanan do a BA in graphic design/photography probably with an Arts foundation in front of it. I'm kinda built for education i guess, in that i can put up with it and am good at tests and stuff so it's the best option. A fair few of my friends however either didn't start A levels or dropped out a bit through the first year, they simply couldn't concentrate in school and had no motivation for it so were'nt gonna achieve what they could achieve. I don't blame them for dropping out and if i was them woulda done the same. They're all now doing pretty good in the working world or apprentice jons and it's worked out good for them. It does narrow their options but they seem happy, are doing what they wanna do and are alot more minted then me lol. I just think you can go either way and its completely down to the person. No point doing A levels if you can't muster up the motivation and think you'll do shit but from my limited experience definately do them if you do.
  15. Just depends how battered you wanna get and if you take a camping stove with cheap food in order to combat the £100 hot dogs.
  16. Yer man! Might take the bmx but doubt it, the parks you can ride are nothing special and super packed so i'd rather just enjoy it all and not have to worry about my bike personally Gonna try and blag a press pass too Should be awweeesooomme. Roll on summer of festivals haha.
  17. That's wierd People put them in there houses and stuff, i've yet to see someone in these rooms in their house though. I reeaaalllyy want to hit a massive stencill in front of one of these haha. If anyone finds one round london let me know
  18. Forgot to mention. Go on the Itunes Store and search 'IndieFeed'. Subscribe to the 'IndieFeed Hip Hop Podcast'. Its free and will automatically give you a new track every week. It's from mainly US artists but the best of the US so is still pretty sick. Where i found out about brother ali and in turn the rest of the rhymsayers crew. Every track is sick and means you can just get more stuff from whoever you like the best but personally i love almost everyone of the 250 or so tracks i've got through indiefeed.
