  1. Singlespeed! Inspires more confindence (as ur not gunna worry so much about landing on a mech and bending your mech hanger), lighter (saves having the cable, mech, heavy rear cassette and shifter), much cheaper and more reliable. Besides, I found when I had gears, me and my mates all ended up using one gear practically all the time anyway, with some of my mates even locking out their rear mechs, which IMO is pointless. Singlespeed all the way!
  2. I had an XTR hub, lasted me quite a while doing big gaps and everything until my mate got on it and broke it straight away. I think you will be fine with it IF you follow this advice: "preload" the drivechain before you gap or pedalkick, e.g. before you put each pedalkick through it, have the hub already engaged. That way, it takes the bang out where it would otherwise have to engage with power already going through it, if that makes sense. I got used to it and didnt even really think anything of it. Its also a very good general technique, as with static moves it means there is less advantage of having a more rapid engagement system, as when you get used to knowing where the hub engages, and engaging it before you put power through, it is like having instant engagement in a way, there would be very little (or no) benefit over having more engagement, until you try rolling gaps..

Hi, Ive emailed chris@rimjam.com twice, with like a couple of week gap in between and have had no replies, but I was told that my rimjam blues would be replaced if I contacted him, since they both broke very soon after I bought them, and I would like to run them on the front instead. (Also, I may need to contact him about testing some pads for the rubber prperties for an A-level project, but that is another matter..) Any ideas? Cheers, Scott

  5. Ive tried to download it like 6 times or so and every time I try it busts after a few seconds. I even tried deleting the first seconds of downloaded footage each time and trying again...
  6. Oooh looking good, downloading now. Just got back from a really nice bit of riding on my own, on a bridge over a nice peaceful river, was great, so a nice inspirational vid would be nice
  7. I use lizard skin shin pads (no knee protection though) and they seem very very nice. They arent too hot or uncomfortable to put me off wearing them on every single ride, and quite frankly I now feel unsafe without them, having experienced so many situations where I have been thankful Ive been wearing them.

  9. I think its definately worth getting some nice light tyres, particularly on the front! My stock felt sooo much more fun to ride when it was lighter and more lively. I would say the panaracer fire XC Pro 2.1 is THE perfect front tyre IMO. Aso for rear, maybe a mitchelin comp somethingorother, 2.2? My mates got one and it seems nice, not particulaly light though.

  11. Thats exactly what happened to the last of my rimjam blues (the first one just peeled off the backing very soon after I bought them). Did you get yours replaced? I emailed chris@rimjam.com ages ago but didnt get a reply, dunno if he got it but I emailed him again earlier.

Pad name: rimJAM Blues Rim: tried several Grind: Tried with and without Tar: Tried with and without Time tested for: Only a month until the second of the two pads broke My opinion of a working brake: Something that reduces your velocity without causing physical damage Review: DANGEROUS to use on the rear unless you only ride very small and smooth things, but could be ok as a front pad. When I got the pads, I was impressed by the braking power, and the brakes gave a nice sound. However, after an hour this sound had diminished and the brakepads lost power, until they became fairly slippy, and eventually I had to use in combination with tar (which was what I was trying to avoid, as it sort of defeats the object in softer pads). My first pad ripped off the backing while trying to backwheel up a bench, which luckily I managed to bail out of without much injury, although the pad itself I found some 10 metres away, where it "pinged" off! Thinking that it was just a one-off, I continued riding, using a rimjam blue and a koolstop with my new, ground onza hog rim (previously I was using an onza dx32, the same material as ronnies, etc). The performance was great, with bucket loads of modulation and reasonable hold, until soon the backing decided to totally rip in half, with the pad attatched to one half of this backing. Unfortunately it happened while I was attempting a 9 foot gap to backwheel, and resulted in the bike looping out onto my back, which I had only previously got over suffering problems with after a couple of years of heavy chyropractic care. I also lost a lot of skin on my arms and had to wear a bandage for a week, although it seems to have healed up ok now. The pad material is ok, if not a little under-powered after bedding in for use on the rear (as I said before, it would be better for a front brake possibly), however the backings are dangerous, and I hope rimjam can sort out this problem, as everyone seems to be having this problem lately.

  17. I think high BBs are great as they allow more body movement over comparably sized wheelbase bikes. That means your body has more distance to move, which means you can chuck your weight about better, which should help for gapping, etc. Yeh I would go for it mate (Y)
  18. The key to it is in having the CONFIDENCE to be right at (or even tiny bit past at times, before you adjust it with a hop) the balance point. I think the best way to learn is to endo facing down a slight angle, a pavement which slopes down into the road is perfect, then start hopping, but once you can get to about 4 or so, start adjusting your techique by trying to front hop forwards, as backwards seems to come almost naturally once you have got that dialled. By the way when hopping forwards you tend to just place the front wheel forwards as you hop by pushing the bars forwards with your arms, however going hopping backwards you use your legs by pulling the back of the bike in towards your body, and the front of your bike pivots back around oyur body in the air. Hope that made sense

    Id say start at 350, cant really go wrong then. If you set it too high it might not sell and then you will only have to relist it again for less in the end if you want to get rid of it.

    Back Breaker...

    I done this the other day, caused by my SECOND rimjam blue breaking, this time the whole backing broke in half and the pad flew off after a really big gap, i only took off my bandages today and have some nice puss-weaping wounds on my elbows! But I used to have this happen to me all the time until I invested in a brake with really decent lock (although obviously I shouldnt have got quite so cheap brake pads!), causing permanent spinal injuries as of about two years ago from a series of similar accidents I had where I looped out onto my back. One was so bad that I couldnt move for 15 mins or barely breathe, and was stuck out in the forest on my own on a dark night, I thought my back was broken but luckily after a bit I managed to get up and make my way to a mates house :shifty:
  23. Ive never heard anything about the forks anal teflon posted, but they do look very nice...! Otherwise I would say echo urbans are lush, lighter than fattys, and still strong. I think its nice to have a really light fork like that, and as for middleburns cranks+bash, you cant go wrong with them (p.s. get some black cranks-less people have them and they look soo much nicer)
