  1. Not sure if it's my aids melting my brain, but I am pretty sure he has a 16T on the front hence the reason for this topic and everyone except you giving an answer based on that fact.
  2. check out 5:55 for what I mean. that gap from the block to block is 9ft, so going up to the back of the bench is nuts, he doesn't go up, he doesn't go down, he just goes in a straight line from take off to landing.
  3. There seems to be two ways to gap from what I have seen. The first is how I would say most people do it, get to the edge, preload, get height, extend legs and land. There isn't anything wrong with this technique and it's handy if you need to go over something, but on larger gaps it can make the landings pretty harsh. This way the rider usually twists the bike which can make some landings awkward and less accurate. The second is how some of the comp guys to it (Stan Shaw being one of the best I have seen) where you start off exactly the same, but instead of getting height, you let the bike stay level or in extreme cases (Like Stan) even let the back wheel go lower than the level of the gap. I've seen this technique get some impressive distances. It's a little odd as you actually gap perfectly straight, it also has the bonus of SUPER smooth landings and really good control and accuracy. Not so great if the gap is low or you need to go over something though. Laurence, you are doing the first technique which is fine, it does look like you need to pinch off the edge even more than your second vid shows. That gaps not small though, probably bigger than I can do now so all I can say is practice and it will come.
  4. Ah Ross, you really are an argumentative kid aren't you. In-case you were actually partaking in an honest conversation and not just trolling the hell out of the forum again I'll try and explain. Riding videos are not just about the riding. If it was then no one would put music in them. Part of the skill in making a good riding video (other than the skill level of the rider) is the editing. A good editor would always chose a song that hasn't been used before, that's pretty much rule 1! A good editor finds a song that fits the mood of the video as a whole then will try to fit the riding to the song (so landings or moves are in time with the beat). The BMX world has caught on and there are daily web edits that are all to a super high standard. Trials riders don't seem to put the same effort in, seems that they hear a song that's popular and is in many other videos and think that means they should use it too. It's just lazy. To be honest I don't think you'll have read that and I expect the usual playground name calling to appear any moment.
  5. 18:15 is the standard gear ratio. 15 / 18 = 0.833 0.833 * 16 = 13.333 So yeah, ideally 16:14 or 16:13. Generally speaking 16:14 is the 'normal' gear ratio to run. 16:12 would be a bit mental...

    ...

tights and shorts when riding street....sigh.
  7. what an original musical score he has gone with
  8. Top Gear America is simply awful.
  9. should settle with time. what you will find is that the pad can slide a bit on the piston, after a bit of riding the piston will actually dent the back of the pad a little bit and that will stop most of the play. You could try removing the paint from the rear in effort to make the back of the pad have a bit more grip, but I don't think that will completely remove the play.
  10. Did your dad beat you as a kid and that's why you head bang in fields, perhaps as a way to come to ease of those denied paternal bonds?

    Help With Bikes

took me half an hour to do 7 miles today on the flat on my fixie. That seems really slow now
  12. 20" wheel makes manuals harder? Pull the other one! I like how the unit of testing you chose is spinning off a ten set. That bike is a custom one-off made to Nicks requirements, all people are saying is that it looks way nicer. you could make that style of frame and still have your (ugly) forks and steeper stem on it. Ok, I don't need to nor will I defend Mark, he's quite capable of doing that himself, but calling someone's Dad a cunt (that is what you originally put right?) is a bit far, in one fell swoop any respect I had for you has now been lost.
  13. I sometimes feel bad for not introducing myself to people, but I normally get to a riding spot then get all giddy and just want to get on my bike and ride, by the time I realise I havn't spoken to someone I feel the time has passed and it would be really awkward to introduce myself when I have already been there for a while.
  14. why is this in a BMX vids thread? And why has this video even been allowed to exist?

    Tra On Inspired Hex !

you obviously don't remember the 24 tour well enough.
  16. I grease everything other than headset cups, with square taper bbs I usually just rub it with an oily/greasy rag or put a dab of grease on then wipe it off. copper stuff is great, best for threads, some sort of lithium grease is great for bearings and anti seize is great for threads or metal on metal contact points.
  17. Trialtech bars have loads of upsweep, the actual bend is smaller/lower than the Deity's but they end up being pretty close to the same height at the end of the bars.
  18. I could smell it at Dean Path, at the Castle, at the new concrete skatepark and that square where Danny has some video parts with all the steps and stuff. I think I could smell it in other places too but I don't know the city all that well
  19. interesting............... ....AAAAAANYWAY, Edinburgh smells funny because of the local brewery. It wafts a smell of hopps or something over the city that smells rather unpleasant.

Nice one! Showing that having a seat doesn't make a bike any less usable for TGS and also good for fun stuff too. huge tyre tap drops too. I look forward to stage 2!
