They've also produced the Race lever for a while. The Race lever is lighter, so Hope seem to think that's what trials riders want. That's pretty much the only reason they're doing the "Trial Zone" brake with an adapted Race lever. Still infinitely prefer the Tech lever, as it seems do most of our customers, but apparently being a market favourite isn't really good enough to justify making a brake any more EDIT: This was Mark.

Pretty sure the only reason that Rockman pads snapped was because they used too much or too strong a de-greaser which weakened them.....that's the excuse they gave anyway. I've seen cnc backings snap, but not any of the ones that are on the market now.

sorry, we're not really having a go at you, it's just most of us have been riding a long time and been through countless "what's the best fluid" posts in our time on here so it's hard not to be a little cynical. I'm still curious as to what you mean by "harder"? As has been said water and oil are pretty compression-less yet I wouldn't describe them as hard. Finding a stiffer frame/booster setup would make more difference to how stiff the brake feels than the fluid that's in it. Personally I find a REALLY stiff setup makes my arm pump worse, a little bit of flex can be a good thing.

how can you have your head up a shops arse? Anyway, I agree, and from working there previously I actually know what goes on and I think most people (including those who think they are amazing) don't actually realize how much effort goes into each order to make sure it's perfect and to make sure the customer knows exactly what's going on on every step and to get people the best delivery and support. it's pretty nuts really.

street: brakeless, dual disc, rear disc, rear maggie front disc are my fave combos Natural: rear vee front disc, rear vee front vee, rear maggie front disc, rear maggie front vee are the only combos I would use. Front magura can go burn in hell.

I'm no scientist but.... I thought the way mercury rolls about not sticking to anything meant that it had a lower viscosity? Water is like treacle, it sticks to surfaces. Meh, I was just messing about anyway I have however contacted my brother who has a PHD in chemistry to get an answer and perhaps a suggestion on what fluid anal trials riders could use. Edit: Dam you JD, you were correct! People should try Acetone, it's a solvent but I'm sure it will be fine Edit 2: Acetone is present in urine, so everybody should use piss in their brakes

but it's low viscosity so it must be better than water which everyone knows is too hard to pull.

tried a vee brake, found it had advantages over maguras in nearly every bit, so I carried on using it.

I'm no engineer but..... Liquid is pretty compression-less (note pretty, not entirely), water, oil etc is VERY hard to compress, I doubt tank fluid is any "harder" than water and I doubt you would notice any difference other than the weight saving in your wallet. Edit: that was just talking about how stiff the brake would be, as has been mentioned water works well because it's thinner than oil, if you really want to experiment you need to try something even thinner, mercury could be a good one

other way round. makes the brake hold like a beast. try and find a salsa carbon booster, rare as hens teeth but have a wider bolt measurement and loads of tyre clearance too

some shimano dx (old ones) or some dmr v8s would be cool? If you want it real old skool then some bear trap pedals are an option.
