yeah, I knew it wouldn't be to everyone's tastes, but that's fine, nice to get people discussing it though

Another vote for Shimano arms, I also highly recommend LGV pads, they are the best I've tried and they have the slimmest backings so you can get your arms closer to the tyre and more out of the way.

thanks guys, yeah I'm pretty happy with how it's come out. it actually took from July till last week to get the footage back, that was a long time to wait not knowing if it was even usable! So yeah, pretty happy.

it needs the music ideally I think. I know what you mean about documenting roadtrips, filming this way you're never going to capture all the little quirks that go on in other countries, however it was a definite derision to break from the norm and I felt like this creative comp was perhaps the only opportunity I would get to make such an experimental video. I liked how filming on super 8 links with travelling as you never know what you're going to get.

Thanks Tom. The "fast forward" is just a side effect of using 8mm, I haven't sped up any of the footage at all. In fact, I only really did very minimal editing, I mostly just cut the footage down to fit the song, all the the blurring, double exposure, burns (well, most of them) were as it came.

Roadtrips to a foreign country - although fun - are always a step into the unknown. From not knowing the local language to not knowing where the good spots are, they're a gamble in terms of producing a usable video. Modern cameras at least offer some comfort in the form of being able to record crisp, high definition clips with a huge amount of control over the image itself. As soon as the rider's pulled the line you can check over your footage and make sure everything's worked out OK. However, what happens when you take away that safety net? When the trusty 550D gets replaced by a camera 40 years it's senior, shooting on inconsistent film that costs £0.20-per-second and takes 3 weeks to process, there's no choice but to get creative with the standard filming procedure. This video isn't a standard blow-by-blow trip video, rather an insight into what happens when you head off into the unknown for a few days. It may not feature the latest footjam whip variation, but it does feature having fun on a bike in its purest form. I see your point, but where do you draw the line? There are a hell of a lot of people out there who do wear helmets but wear them so badly they are useless, do they still get punished? If you're worried about people in traffic, then should children walking on the pavement wear helmets as they are not as skilled walkers as adults and might wander into the road? I've been brakeless and had to stop suddenly, it is harder than with brakes but it is possible. I'm pretty sure it's some kind of legal requirement to have at least one brake anyway, but it's not strictly enforced (thank god!)

officially started editing now.

think I've found a song

tomorrow could be a good day! I had decided on a song, but I'm having second thoughts now which is annoying as hunting for that perfect song takes ages!

shouldn't the question be, why are other frames so cheap?
-
been about 6 weeks since I finished filming mine, I am yet to actually see the footage let alone edit it.

pretty sure the crutches will do that But yeah thats some sour news, get well soon Chris!

Someone uploaded some pics to the Clan's facebook page, I thought they were pretty cool so I thought I would share incase anyone was interested. coming in to land from a flip 118cm hop

yes, yes it was

I would have to agree, the goal for frames is to make them pretty stiff, no-one likes a flexy frame. I've ridden both Steel and Alloy frames and I can't really say I can tell the difference just from material alone, I have ridden a Ti frame before and I could tell the difference with that, mainly because it had a shite chainstay yolk design and was as flexy as a wet noodle.

Why are you still trying to persuade me I should like something I don't, even saying it's almost my obligation to like it? I thought my last post covered it pretty well, I just didn't like this video. It's not the end of the world.
-
I'm sure there are things you don't like, perhaps you need to open your mind also? Bitching aside, it's just not my cup of tea, no biggy.

I only watched because I saw Flip liked it, I got about half way.....no thanks, no thanks.

Thanks for the ride guys (and Gal). Was cool to meet up and it wasn't quite as windy as I thought it would be. Not sure if I thanked you in person Carl, but thanks for picking up that crank from Tartybikes! -

I'm having some breakfast then I'll be on my way down -
the way Mark does it (and I because of Mark) is to raise the main "shaft" just below the camera up enough to give a good hand grip, then let the legs dangle below either closed or open. This seems surprisingly smooth.

Carl, are you still stopping by Tartybikes in the morning? Are you OK to pick something up for me there? (crank arm) -
Monto trials rotor I think, and the power is similar, if I had to pick I would say the hope felt slightly more powerful, but Stan rode it more so he would have a better answer for you

think I watched TV or went riding, true story!
