  1. I've got 52 items selling on ebay now and I don't envy having to deal with that crap when it inevitably comes. I'm angry because I've ordered three things recently only for them to turn up damaged or just made wrong. First was a radiator cover that was such bad quality they don't even want it back, they just refunded me and told me to dispose of it. Second was a shoe storage hall bench, arrived fully built (wasn't that big) and badly damaged, awaiting a reply. Third was a custom neon sign of my personal logo for my office, took a couple of weeks to arrive but it came today...it's backwards! It's also just wrong with it not actually being the same as my logo even when the right way round. As I typed this I'm getting a carpet fitted, we have a long hall and specifically didn't want a join. The supplier came and measured and said they have one that's just big enough to do this but we had to get their biggest roll. The fitters have just this moment told me it won't fit and there will need to be a join...I'm actually raging as we could've probably saved money with a smaller one. Edit: Totally forgot that someone scammed me for £35 on a pair of BMX tyres on FB market, sent payment via bank transfer (figured a fan of the channel wouldn't scam me) and the tyres never arrived and then he stopped replying to my messages (while posting every day on his personal FB page) so that's not something I can fight. This weeks been shit
  2. Appreciated, I certainly hadn’t considered that could be an issue
  3. I assumed you’d still be able to operate them from the wall switch as a normal light in that case no?
  4. Carpets are all pulled up ready for the fitters to fit new ones.
  5. I'm currently into the 7th month of still trying to get the paperwork done so that would be awesome if you can get it done that quick!

I think some kind of lockdown similar to Austria but maybe with the option for people to present a negative test as an alternative to the vaccine (like Scotland is doing with the vaccine passport)

"Highest vaccinated countries in Europe seeing Covid-19 surge" That's a quote from the WHO. I've not agreed with them with a lot of decisions they've made but it's interesting to see them say this. They do also say they think people should take the vaccine and that it can help reduce the severity so it's a bit of a mixed message. Again, I'm not saying the vaccine doesn't do anything but like has been mentioned, perhaps the surge in cases is from vaccinated people thinking they're 100% safe now and going out into situations that are going to spread it more than those who aren't vaxxed and keeping a lower profile...if that's the case do people need more education? Do we still need restrictions for everyone vaccinated or not? Maybe it's due to people not wearing face masks as much? We should also bear in mind that corona viruses are seasonal so maybe the surge is just part of that? That's providing the vaccine is actually doing something and it's not just the virus itself becoming less severe like I mentioned a few posts ago? There's a LOT of variables.
  8. Painted this backboard white and removed the decades old fluorescent tube light fittings from behind and replaced with a Govee LED strip. I added a diffuser to take any harshness off and I’m very happy The advantage is that it’s way cheaper to power, less likely to kill us and I can control the colours from my phone or with Alexa (if I choose). Can’t wait for it to get dark so I can really see what it looks like.

    Covid19

I listened to a radio call-in yesterday discussing the Austria restrictions. A woman called in saying she totally agrees with it and would like to see it in the UK. The reason being that her 16 year old got Covid and the jab wasn’t available. I was sat there wondering if her health was good, did she get out much, was she overweight etc. She then dropped that her daughter “shouldn't have got Covid because she’s a gamer and never goes out” (but then said she had recently got a job working retail). Blaming her bad Covid purely on the fact she wasn’t vaccinated seems to be a view shared by many when we should be talking about her vitamin D levels and general health. If she’s a gamer that never goes out then that suggests her health isn’t the best. If people want the vaccine that’s fine but I can’t believe we’re all ignoring other factors that are extremely important.

Out of interest, how severe were their symptoms? Did they all get I’ll after the vaccines were available or did some catch it before?

But the percentages keep on changing, first it was “this vaccine has a 95% efficacy rate” then it dropped to 85%, then 70%, 60% etc. like I keep on saying, it’s too soon to come out with definitive results. I’m not denying it probably does have some short term help but when I weigh up the risks, effects and alternatives I just don’t see the vaccine as this “wonder drug” that the government and media have relentlessly rammed down our throats.

that's what we're told but we've been told a lot of stuff haven't we. Are the stats clear? As has been said previously stats can be interpreted wildly and even have people use the same info to prove two opposing opinion. I suspect that the experts chosen to interpret the stats for the government are wildly bias at worst and premature at best. We're still early to be coming to any solid conclusions and anyone who says otherwise shouldn't be taken seriously. As for the pill, I know nothing about it having only heard about it the other day. Will report back once I know more.

    That’s arguable.

And how does anyone do this? As has been accepted the vaccines aren’ta cure, they don’t fully protect you and there’s no proof they reduce symptoms…how can a vaccinated person prove they’re a reduced risk?

Yeah where do you draw the line? Should unvaccinated people be refused medical treatment? If so what about smokers? As soon as an extreme rule is accepted it opens the gates for other rules veiled as being “good for us”.

The issue I have is that everyone's been whipped into a mass hysteria, the vaccine isn't showing to be all that effective with boosters, still being transmittable, still allowing people to get sick etc. You may argue that it lessens the chances of dying but I don't think there's any solid evidence the vaccine is solely the reason why that could be happening. As I've said earlier in this thread, viruses as they mutate become more suited to their host...at the start of the pandemic humans were new to the virus and potentially quite deadly but as time goes on it mutates into something that is still contagious but less deadly (that's what the virus wants, it wants the host to live and spread to new ones, a dead host isn't very useful). So rather than the vaccine being responsible for less severe cases it could just be that the virus itself is less deadly. The vaccines also seem to have a 6 month lifespan (hence boosters)...are we going to be dependent on injections for the rest of our lives? And that's the next issue...no-one is being told that there's ANY alternatives than to take the vaccine. People are being put against each other and critical thinking seems to have gone out the window and even punished! I just see this lockdown for the unvaxxed as the next step in us relinquishing our rights and freedoms and I honestly think that having to defend this opinion is very worrying.

Oh definitely worse. I don't fully agree with the lockdowns we had but forcing people to isolate because they don't want to have a drug injected is so wrong. People with the vaccines can still get covid and still transmit it.
  18. what cable are you using?

So Austria...locking down unvaccinated people. This is a slippery slope
  20. Fitted my new ceiling light, quite cheap but matches my white and wood vibe I’m going for. I’ve put a couple of smart bulbs in which I can control from my phone (brightness, warmth plus colours) or with Alexa if I wanted. I’m very pleased with it especially for the price
  21. That would drive me mad My update is that my desk top arrived, I’m building a custom one with a sit/stand base and wanted a solid wood top. Went with a beech kitchen worktop with beveled edges and oil treatment. I then found a similar shelf (which hasn’t been treated yet) as a monitor raiser with some white IKEA legs too match the white frame. I’ve bought an 80mm auger and once I know where my monitors and computer will go I’ll drill a nice grommet hole for the cables. Got a carpet fitter coming to measure tomorrow, we’re hoping my measurements were accurate as it means we can use their largest size to fit with no seams in the long hall and also fit the office…for less than £300 too (minus underlay and fitting costs)…can’t wait to have the carpet in and be able to get my desk built!
  22. Ah that makes sense, I hadn’t considered it as part of a loop. So far the house has never given any issues (with Jane’s aunt who had it from new or with us) like tripping switches, flickering lights etc but I guess I’ll be putting more juice through these office sockets than they’ve had before so hopefully they’ll be fine until we face the daunting task of new wiring…not looking forward to doing that!
  23. Until we get the electrics looked at I’m just carrying on, I replaced the plug socket with a triple with USB, saves an extension cable and charger adaptors…are house wires usually doubled up like this? Apparently the house was built by a very reputable company known for quality houses (they’re still going strong today) and I’m wondering if they’ve just done extra quality on the cables or if this is normal? I’ve now finished painting the office and all the gloss, very happy with it. I also fitted new vents and wardrobe handles, again very happy and will match my desk nicely. Ive also got the first coat of paint in the hall, just needs one more and it’ll be good to go. Got carpet fitters coming to measure up on Tuesday and once that’s fitted I can start furnishing it all. After that we’ll start on the lounge and dining room (which will be Jane’s fitness room) which involves removing a big fireplace, it’s going to be messy!
  24. I feel like I'm gaining brain cells just by being near this thread, some impressive stuff indeed!
