  1. try ashton bikes his email addy is on his site
  2. caustic soda wont do anything to it. I am afraid nitromores is best, not too bad really just buy loads and pour it into a tub or somthing and rest the bottom of your rim in it for a while, then turn the wheel a little bit untill the whole lots done.
  3. get yourself the new 6spd hope trials hub (when its out) puuurfect I recken, rode one at the weekend (well, just the normal 9spd virsion) and I liked it, hopfully I will be getting one, I will then sell one of my kings (which are also excellent, had one for 5 years with little done to it!)
  4. I doubt I would ride if I didnt do comps, I just really enjoy them.........even out riding normally I make rules I have to follow, like pretend there is tape and I am only allowed to touch cirten things, or not allowed to stop or do everythin g left foot. I love rules!! I dont think I have ever been nervous at a comp from people watching me, only from the thought falling off and messing up my chance of winning. I am lucky and there are comps local, my parents took me to them for years but they dont go as much now that I have friends that drive (and I can drive myself there when I get a working car :) ) The most fun comps though are the nationals, I love them
  5. steve puts some good points across, you wont go far wrong listening to him. If I were to make a lever I would: Make it out of decent material, maybe cnc like hope, or nicley forged like shimano Make the pivot closer to the bar (like the avid juicy lever) it just feels soooo much better! Make the lever blade a bit longer and specific to 1 finger design (like rb I guess) and as steve said no sharp edges give it a split clamp, or maybe have it so it uses two quick release zip ties to hold it on. make it symectical on either side so it can be used as a front or rear lever maybe a smaller piston size (not by much) have ball bearings on the pivot like ultimate levers annodized ti hardwear where possible maggies seem to have decent seals, I also really like the 04 tpa, not had a problem with one since I knew not to over tighten it 4 years ago. excellent :)
  6. most tyres are better than the el gatos Get yourself either: Maxxis highroller/minion 2.35 super tacky (or slow reezay for even more grip!) Kenda blue groove 2.3 stick-e (not quite as grippy as the maxxis but really nice feel) I am sure there are other good tyres out, but I know these tyres are good and highly reccomend them.
  7. the new ones would be crap I recken, they have no bite and not much hold as they are designed as an xc brake, might be better with a bigger rotor though like the saints but there still isnt the same bite as with other brakes.
  8. I had a rear 160mm mono trials on my 26" global. It was ok, I liked the constant lever feel, modulation and quietness but it didnt have anywhere near the hold I needed, I ended up on my ass (ask waynio (Y) ) Also spoke flex makes the bike feel a bit vague and I sidehop mainly to my left and would rather not have a disk to bend. As things are at the mo I dont think disk technology is up to a rear disk on 26" bikes, the disks need to be smaller, thicker and more intregated into the wheel....calipers also need to be more designed as part of the frame, rather than a later add on.
  9. well done waddy I had an amusing day standing around splashing though puddles in my wellington boots and watching riders though section 3 (probably the easiest section  ) I was soo jelouse I couldnt ride. I wanted to clean the trial and beat stalker :) lol I wasnt very popular after getting peoples rims muddy before the comp even started ;) Mike looked funny in his blue plasitc gimp suit Tom looked like Ali G Waynes bike was a foot longer after doing the 180 gap to hook cow shit is slippery porter did my section in 24 secs or somthing stupidly fast, clean too but I gave him a five anyway cos he's ginger Tom rig nearly made the gap in my section, most people wimped out and droped into it, WIMPS!! *cough* Phil *Cough* tim stedman practicly split a rock the size of a car in half by gapping to bash, also rode the whole section as loud as he could.......nothing changed there then. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
  10. £30,000 in a month  ;) I earn roughly...errrmm...£200 in a month lol
  11. as I have said in other topics, I adore magura marta or louise fr calipers. They dont leak, are light, got a nice range of pads for them (including special monty ones!!) and the big feature for me is that the hose goes directly in the top of the caliper making it very hard to clip and undo by accident like hope, avid and co (and yes it does happen, did it to me after a week of having my mono trials on the front.) Maggies also take mineral fluid which doesnt damage nature. combine the caliper with a nice lever like the shimano xt, rb disk lever or louise fr and your onto a winner
  12. dejavu heres some that I like this one as its the only pic of me doing somthing decent lol this one as its nice and moody, really good pic I REALLY like this, the colour and detail is super again the clarity is super
  13. I hate cars, but I like top gear. Its just lads talking and ripping the piss outta stuff, helps keep my testosterone levels up :S just needs bare fist fighting and it would be perfect lol.
  14. caustic soda is a beast!! I love the stuff, eats aluminium for lunch (Y) would be perfect for getting the annodising off your bash. (but dont mix it in an aluminium tray, I found out that hard way lol)
  15. I live in hebden Bridge (10 mins away) only ever ridden burnley twice though, some nice stuff, but I would much rather ride some rocks.
  16. sorry nick, but this has to be said (Y) your bike was the worst thing I have ever ridden!! Think its more due to the frame rather than how you had it set up, but it just felt like a bloody exspensive pogostick!
  17. I thought he got kicked in the stomach while training and it ruptured somthing, he didnt get it looked at and died because of it? and yes, with his kind of physique he could have been awesome at trials!!
  18. most definatley natural!! I like to ride both, but I will get bored a lot quicker on street, its just a lot more repetative than natural. I am pretty lucky though, I have tonns of natural near by which you can get to within 10 mins in a car.
  19. the best bikes I have ridden in each cat are: 26" Waynes Kenny Beleay 24" Ashton ET 20" Monty x lite
  20. think its probably gonna be more hassle than its worth, what with swapping tyres and cassettes round. Ta all the same though, see you there
  21. good stuff, snow riding is awesome!! suprised your rims didnt ice up or maggie freeze though :ermm: Wish I was there. Cant wait till your back, many a rides are planned :ermm:
  22. lol, got a spare rear wheel? :ermm: see you there :ermm:
  23. sounds good to me (Y) although I think the weather will shock him. I have just got back from a week in lanzarote and the weather here is awefull!! after a few months in spain he will be used to nice light warm dry days (Y)
  24. lol, news to me (Y) I like to use the same stuff I would do in a comp. I need to know exactly how my bike reacts so I know how close I am to its limits (eg how my brakes feel, when my hub engages, what my tyres feel like, how much grip my pedals have etc) I do however have spairs that I put on for comps, like new tyres (to suit conditions) and change pads to also suit conditions....but they are normally the same as what I normally use, but just newer. Also, Iolo, wad and myself do go out to "train", we will go to some rocks and mark out sections and time each other. we will also go out on the street and set targets and try and beat them. Doing the section training REALLY helps for comps, most people when out riding riding just do a couple of moves then rest, that wont help much at comps when you need to flat out for 2 mins, so training for comps like that is a big help. most of the time however we just ride as normal (Y)
  25. I cant ride as I dont have a complete bike, but I will see if I can come and observe or somthing (Y)
