I dont rate odi style lock-ons, they are too fat, they wobble even when done up, there is a metal collor on the outside of the grip, just where I like to put my hand and the bolts arn't the strongest ever. The best lock-on grips I have used are Massi ones off ebay (virsion 1) they are just held with two grub screws on one end, leaving the other free of any uncomfy bolts.....They dont spin either and the grub screws are super hard to round off. Take a look at the new dmr Lock-ons, I think they are prtty much the same.

but that will just be the standard axle and freehub wont it? its at least £100 more than that for the extras.
-
they are good, I used them for 4 years (mostly the same hub) without much trouble, the only thing that when wrong was a couple of snapped axles. BUT I dont think they are £100 better than a hope. No snapped axles, stiffer wheel and stiffer engagment (you can really feel it!) and a main thing for me they are BRITISH Both good hubs, but I still rate hope as being the one to get

aha, I was looking for this topic.... got my koolstop pads today, popped them on and after 5 mins of riding they are pretty awesome! plenty of power, not thaaat much bite, but more than enough needed and it helps with stoppies (remember them?) and other stuff... I reccomend them I'll test the others as and when I get them

the smaller the wheels, the higher the bb needs to be to stop your pedals from scraping on the floor, thats why bmx have bb rise. However, the higher the bb goes, the more unstable the bike becomes, so there is a fine line to draw between clearence and stability. I chose 18mm as its more going to be a bmxy bike, so I am after the extra stability for manuals, spins and just going fast in general. If I were to do more trialsy stuff I would maybe go with a 20-25mm bb.

I am getting a 24" frame made by Iolo for bmx and going into town with. I am gonna have the geo: 1035 wb 380 cs +18 bb 73 ha should be pretty sweet If I was to make a nice 26" street bike I would use: 1040 wb 380 cs 0 bb 73 ha pretty much like the ashton, but a bit shorter and lower to help with stability

good to hear your going. I did my first tyketrial waaaay back in 99, seems so long ago now It was on my 18" framed xc bike, with NO trials bits lol. I entered beginner and came 13th I will be riding Elite as I have done for the past 3 years I reccomend taking some spare clothes, back cowm can be bleak at times, but if the weathers good its lovley! Also take some lunch, or maybe money to buy some food, you'll need it!! When you get there, go and sign on. you will be given a punch card DONT LOSE IT! You then probably have enough time to look at a few sections. Pay close attention to them and think out exactly where you want to go. You will probably see a few riders (me included) walking them doing funny hand movment, thats just us riding the section in our head so we know what to do when it comes to riding it. Pay attention to where the course goes, theres nothing worse than missing a gate and getting a 5. When you start, go to the section number that maches the last number on your punchcard (eg, rider number 123, go to section 3) When you get there give the observer your card, this gets you your place in the cue.... While you wait, either walk the section, watch someone else do it or go and get warmed up on some nearby rocks. if you can, go around just behind some good riders, whatch what they do, it will help you find lines that you might have missed and helps teach you techniques too. If your about to make a dab try and put for foot somwhere you can get out of easily, I have seen many a rider try and get up a rock only to not make it and dab at the bottom of the rock, this makes it very hard to get back on without having to get another run at the rock. if you dab, dab on top of somthing, then its easier to drag the bike up and get over the rock. If you dab , keep your foot down and take a look around you, as long as your foot says where it is you can keep it there for as long sa you like (time limit permitting) and still have the one dab. Move the bike to where you can either get back on easily, or move it over a difficult object. It really helps to rest a pedal on a rock or to jam your front wheel in somwhere when getting back on from a dab. Keep your feet up, it may sound funny, but its really true!! if the bike slides, dont dab straight away, ride it out and more often than not the bike will settle again and you can carry on. Its polite to thank the observers at least on the last lap. When you have finnished, hand the punchcard in as soon as you can, sometimes if you have drawn with someone, time can be the deciding factor.....Dont forget to thank the organisers. I think thats everything, I will be there, might see you around

I agree with dave, now these hopes are out I cant see any reason to get a king.
-
ha ha, I am a natural rider through and through, but when I hit the streets my bike turns into a bmx I guess thats why I dont like high bbs or mods, just not bmxy enough.
-
I have ridden two..... ....they were 2 of the worst bikes I have ridden!!! behind a zoo python and echo hifi. seems all newer riders are getting high bb frames now ahh well, I guess I'll carry on preaching against them even if you dont listen

its me again, going on a topic spree here.... I just bought some oldskool xtr cranks off ebay (cos they were cheap) I am wanting a 5 arm spider as it doesnt seem you can get 20 tooth cogs in 4 bolt, anyone know where I could get one? I saw a few on ebay a while back, but I have spent ages looking and cant find any Is there even the chance of a one peice bash and spida (a la middleburn) that will fit? Leeson rings a bell, but I aint 100% on that. Or even if someone knows where I can get a filthy ard guard, they rock!! One last question, is 116mm the widest xtr bb you can get? cheers Mr C
-
I think either an echo control or ashton justice (bet people are getting fed up of me saying that one now ) the ashton is cheaper though and I recken it rides nicer too. I cant comment on the sidehop as I have never tried one, the monty urban is errmm....different, my old one was ok, but not great. I would stay clear of super high bbs unless you go on one first and like it.

it will be fiiine, if it was a problem then they wouldnt make sinterd pads at all for them.
-
well, got payed £60 today, so I have splashed out on a few pads (I tend to wreck them pretty quick anyway) I went for: a red koolstop A2Z blues Fibrax sintered and goodridge sintered. I'll probably try the koolstops first cheers for the help guys
-
I am a weight weenie and even I dont bother with ti bolts.... just get steel ones, safer
-
oi oi oi!! mods arnt cheating, but almost I rode one for 2 or more years so I aint totally against them, but I just feel stocks are far superior (I spose its because I come from a mtb background)
-
wouldnt be suprised if having a seat was in the rules. tis a pretty cool seat though, liking the clear plastic
-
I would soooo love to grab their trifle off them an smash it on the floor in front of them!!
-
got some of those pads they are seriously grabby!! best hold of any pad on any brake I have tried (even avids) its not all good though, they squeel like pigs and get water on them and say goodby to any power at all!! not sure how long they will last either......I am just gonna take them along to comps and use them if I need the extra power. so I am after pads for everyday and comp use. seems sintered could be the way, but I'll wait for some more replys before buying
-
but whiiich is more powerfull??? I knew about the sintered helping reduce heat for dh, but that doesnt matter in trials, I just want to know which is the more powerful compond cheers for the replys so far though
