  1. VERY jelous of the rear brake! (can't fit a vee to my bike ) Slates are very nice, that ones no exception!
  2. in the past (and probably still true now) you needed to come top 3 in expert category overall in the British Champs to be seeded into elite
  3. the only story I have is when I was younger, I used to ride by the canal where a company used to keep old loch gates. they had a few barges in the canal too that we would ride. At the same time a schoolgirl went missing from our town, it was a big thing in our area...a few weeks went past with no sign of her until one day someone from the loch gate company moved one of the barges only for the missing girls boy to float to the surface! it turns out she had been murdered and dumped in the canal with weights under the barge, the same barge I rode on while she was under there! The day she was found I was riding my bike about 100m away, I can see the place from my window. The killer has never been caught.
  4. as much as I would like to go, I don't think I will My mum needs the car this weekend plus I am trying to save as much as possible to put towards my own car, so forking out for this comp isn't going to be possible Have fun though guys!
  5. ohh, sounds interesting! Do you know the name or where to get it from?
  6. I only get it riding comps, if you have never ridden one its unlikely you have ever had arm pump....its when the muscles squash the nerves (I think) going to your hands and in effect stops them working, it gets VERY hard to pull the brakes and even hold on to the bars sometimes. The closest thing I can compare it to is when your hands get really cold and you struggle to move your fingers.
  7. horrible style, but amazing rider
  8. after 11 years I still get bad arm pump
  9. welcome to my world (although yours does sound worse!) I have never found a single answer to getting rid of arm pump, but the best thing I did was use a vee brake (as you seem to have found out). That almost got rid of it due to having such a light lever pull. If you really don't want a vee, then you could try my trick of an elastic band around the lever and bar, this makes the brake easier to pull (but slower return, which some people don't like). There's also a good exercise that motocross riders do.........grab a broomstick handle and cut it down to handlebar width, tie a rope around the middle and hand a weight off the bottom. Now hold on to the handle and wind the weight up by twisting the pole away from you. Its very good at pumping your forearms up and if done often can help beat arm pump.
  10. front flip drops would be pretty rad (awaits Danny mac to step in)
  11. Hi, it was myself you talked to on the Phone at tartybikes. I think you pretty much got the jist of it, however I would recommend the Shimano XT over the XTR brakes as they are thinner (same as LX), the linkage system on the XTR brakes can work loose and rattle over time also. I have run vee brakes on a 46mm rim with 100mm spacing in the past, I had shimano LX brakes with Plaz CRV backings. It cleared pretty well, but thinner pads would make it easier to set up. I know you mentioned a magura on the phone, but with you having vee brake posts, you would have to run Magura's EVO 2 adaptor to run the brake. This makes the brake much harder to set up and as I said on the phone takes up a bit of space too. As long as you set up a vee brake well with good pads and cable (BMX linear slick cables are good, or if you want bulk, as your local bike shop for shimano sp5 5mm gear outer in 15m length) it should work as well (or better) than a magura.. I had a vee on when I won a round of the world championships, so they are perfectly good. I would also recommend a booster to make sure your're getting the most from the brake. Cheers Ali
  12. considering I found the place that sells Phatpad material and tested a whole host of compounds before deciding that the blue material was best and have boxes of the stuff at home, I still choose to use TNN pads
  13. whoa there nelly! As yet there is no trials in the Olympics, Andrei is TRYING to get it in but I am unsure whether a "demonstration event" is just a demo, or an actual comp (can someone clear that up for me?) Either way, that record looks KNACKERING! Respect to the beardy man!

    Brakes

what he said, but I made the 3rd point bold as that is a big help for making the brake as stiff as poss.
  15. oh, please make the envolope self addressed please. Dam, JT was too fast.
  16. question: What is a sponsored riders job? Answers in an envolope please.
  17. I am really astonished by the actions of a sponsored rider!
  18. I enjoyed it. It's a shame there was such a small turnout though. I thought the sections were cool, the weather was (too) hot and I got to eat a HOG ROAST! Getting 2nd behind Savage was cool too. Was cool to put some faces to names and have a laugh with mates.
  19. Rockman Isis is VERY close Geo and a Hydroxx is the same.
  20. my wallet cost 99p If the wallet had cards and shniz in, I would hand it in (with the £10) if it had no important cards in, I would keep it.
  21. Yep, all to scale (5:1 if I remember correctly)
