  1. oh my god! this is the BEST bike I have ever had! Even better than the proto. Its VERY stiff, the box section tubing and long weld between stays makes the back end very rigid, the front is also very stiff from the tubing profiles. Strength also seems very good. My proto was put through its paces, missed taps to downtube, missed sidehops to chainstays, hooks, harsh taps, big drops. Not a single dent or crack (but plenty of scratches). The geo is slightly different, mainly the longer chainstays. I have been wanting to try out a higher bb bike with longer stays for a while. You get the advantage of the clearance you get with a higher bb, but not the pogostick effect you get. I have found the longer stays helps loads with taps as it keeps my weight forward when landing and stops my back wheel looping out when my front hits the wall. I did a 57" (almost vert) tap that I have been trying for years on my first ride on this stinger! Sidehops also seem good, I am not sure the exact reason, but I managed to sidehop a rock at my local place that I have not been able to do since I broke my ankle. I am loving the vees also, best brakes ever, and yes, one of my levers is drilled out loads lol, it was on my racing bmx (7.8kg bmx!) Videos and pics to come soon hopefully (when the weather gets remotely good!)

  5. its not really the power that cracks the forks, its more due to the brake mounts being welded to the fork where they flex the most causing a stress riser.
  6. have a go on a bike with well setup vees and then say which is better To be fair though, there is the same choice in vee pads as there is maggie pads, just pop the pad into a vee backing and away you go. As for changing pads, sure the magura pads just pop in and out, but to do that you either have to unbolt the brake or take the wheel out. With a vee, you unbolt the pad and bolt a new one in, no taking brakes or wheels off. You can stick with maggies if you want, but I just want people to have the best brakes possible, go with whatever makes you happy though.
  7. you obviously havn't tried a good vee brake then! One of the great selling points is how much smoother and easier to pull they are than a maggie. I get really bad arm pump even with a water bled magura. it almost vanishes with a vee brake. Why do people think vees are spongy?
  8. they are both pretty simular.... Front is shimano LX arms onto SD7 lever, Nokon cable (nice and flexy so the brake doesn't move when the cable hits the frame or something) and TNN LGV pads. Rear is shimano XT arms, SD7 lever, shimano SP5 cable (basicly the same as oddysey linear slic cable, but you can get it in bulk lengths), onza 4-bolt adaptors, salsa carbon booster and TNN pads The front is comparable to a front maggie, the rear lacks the bite of a maggie, but holds like a vice! Both are easier to pull than a water bled maggie too.
  9. Lighter - Couldn't care less. More power - No! No way. Haha. With a grind and or tar and good pads a magura is wayyy more powerful! I'll have you know that Vee brakes in medium setting is roughly 10% more mechanically powerful than a Magura More adjustable - How? Avid SD7 levers have a TPA adjustment AS WELL as power adjustment, you can also adjust each arms springs while riding without tools (handy if you get a buckle) easier to get replacements - How!? Most bikeshops in the world carry vee brake parts, you can even get cables in supermarkets! Doesn't break forks - That means it aint as powerful then. wink3.g Narr, its due to a smaller weld area on the forks which doesn't make such a stress riser. Possible to remove the wheel without deflating the tyre - Ok. One up there. Pads wear evenly and therefore last longer - If you set Magura pads up perfect they wear evenly, They still wobble and get rounded ends though easier to setup. - Well, I find Magura's sooo easy to set-up. When I used to have a vee I found it soo annoying to set up 2 bolts to mount the brake, pull cable though and tighten pinch bolt, took me moments to fit my front brake.
  10. I know it will be hard to make people change, to be honest it doesn't bother me that much, but I just don't see the logic of having front magura (or rear lol, I am never having a maggie again!)
  11. ok its clear the difference between front disk and a rim brake, but please someone tell me the advantages of a front maggie over a vee? I can think of one: Sealed unit so less maintanence (although I am still on the origional cable I fitted 4 months ago) And advantages of a vee over magura?? Lighter More power More adjustable easier to get replacements Doesn't break forks Possible to remove the wheel without deflating the tyre Pads wear evenly and therefore last longer easier to setup. I WILL get people to see the light and buy a vee rather than magura

  13. New bike is BRILL, Vee brakes are rocking my world right now, if I have to go back to Magura it will be a dark day!
  14. If its a mod, then dual disk works REALLY well, if you tend to fall off/bash your bike then Maguras are harder to hit. If its a stock, I am going to go against the grain and say dual vee.
  15. yeah we are....more riding time whooop!
  16. no, despite being listed as a 2.5", they are actually smaller than a 2.4" rubber queen, especially in height.
  17. go with a rain king or de kaiser, they have the stiffest thickest sidewalls I have ever seen, you will NOT rip through it and if you get a puncture then you are a basher (I have never had a puncture in the 7 months of using my rain king)
  18. I would rather use the softer and stickier rubber found in tyres such as conti and maxxis
  19. pah! set them up right and they last ages!
  20. Phatpads do indeed have great bite, but I always found them lacking in the hold department. My current LGM pads are not prototype ones and they are lasting ages.
