  1. I've had both and they have been very reliable and havn't caused me any problems.
  2. very heavy steel forks (1200-1300g from memory), very stiff though, you wont be able to break them in a hurry.
  3. why don't you actually read the thread?
  4. out of interest, what do people actually do on facebook to waste so much time? I go on there every other day, see if anyone I know has done anything interesting...maybe update my profile thing then leave. Oh, if you want to do something different, check out Fantastic Contraption (1 and 2)
  5. plus the weight of a rear cog, plus the weight of cassette spacers, plus the weight of a lockring, plus the weight of a heavy duty axle and funbolts (cos lets be serious, they are pretty much vital).
  6. not ideal though is it? Plus it's not exactly hard to set pads up flat with normal mounts.
  7. for actual trials, front freewheel is better I think. It keeps the weight central which means you can make your rear wheel lighter and easier to move about (so endos, up to fronts, pivots etc are easier). Echo freewheels are also very reliable and have a lot of engagements. Rear freehub I think is better for street, you can fine tune the gears a bit more and the chain doesn't spin round all the time (which also means the cranks stay in place when your feet come off the pedals for some no-footed tricks).
  8. I am the same as JD, did comps, enjoyed them but don't really compete any more. I did compete for 12 years, I really enjoyed them, got some good results, did the world rounds so got to travel too. More recently I have been enjoying just riding and trying new things, comps got a little samey after so long doing them and it was a tad expensive, now I get payed to ride and have great fun trying all new things. I am not ruling out doing comps again, but I really don't like the new generation of comp type frames with super high bbs and mega long reach, if I do compete again my bike will have a seat and it will be just for fun rather than to win.
  9. pah, and you call yourself a cyclist! http://lmgtfy.com/?q=tapered+steerertube
  10. I think this is a good idea, I am surprised it's taken this long to get a company to try it, if I could make frame I would have tried it years ago, trials seems the perfect application for a tapered steerer!
  11. Mark W only has a Rover, so should be ok
  12. I am pretty sure they have more bounce? But they don't have suspension and an engine to help get the lift. He seems a bit too "demo-y" if you get me? The fakie roll thing was cool (but that's got to be easier than having pedals surly?) and he did look good on the rocks, but I am never a fan of jumping about over a person on the floor, but that's just me.
  13. I am not a fan of washer-less clamps. I am yet to use/see one that is flat to the rim and it definitely doesn't work with any rims with angled sidewalls (Trialtech, viz, some Onza's etc)
  14. the only issue with that is with single wall rims, inflating the tyre actually expands the rim outwards, so it messes up what you have just done. I am the same as Theom, I push the pads against the rim, nip up the bolts then pull the lever to push the cylinder out, I will tap the cylinder with a mallet (or fist..whatever is a bout) to make sure it stays flat to the rim. It's the best way I have found after setting up hundreds of bikes at Tarty's.
  15. I can't remember the last time I got anything bike related as a christmas or birthday pressie. Working at tartybikes meant I could get anything I wanted for a good price, so there was no need. I think I might be getting some nice sharp kitchen knives this year from my parents.
  16. does indeed look like a fine steed, I wonder if when you ride, you may decide that it is the same as smoking weed.
  17. I preferred watching that origional video to the latest backwheel hopping, low speed riding that's going on at the moment.
  18. that bike looks way too long for you!
  19. Try-all in "good idea" shocker! to be fair they have had good ideas before, but those cams are a great idea.
  20. very nice, I am not normally a fan of bent tubes on frames, but that Meta pulls it off rather nicely! The colours are very nice too! from a personal point of view though, that front end setup looks very low. The bb is quite high on that frame so normally you raise the stem/bars to compensate. Obviously this is is rider preference, but if you struggle to lift the front up or bunnyhop, it's worth considering. anyway, I hope you enjoy trials, I have been at it for about 14 years now and am still at it (though my riding has changed to become very streety now).
