it's the fixed sprocket echo hubs that take a spline. no brakes on this bike, made the steep hill I had to go down 30 seconds after getting on the bike quite interesting.

I need to get some pics, but I have finally finished my fixie project. It's an 80s orbit touring frame with fancy reynolds tubing (sooo light). I hacked off the dropouts and popped some horizontals on, removed the gear mounts and guides and removed the bridge on the seat stays. I have the forks to mach it, put on a 90mm quill stem and some 2" rise mtb bars. It has deep v rims on echo fixed hubs. The whole thing is really light, its really comfy and rides smoothly. I just did a 20 mile ride to break it in and it was a joy to ride. First time riding fixed and it wasa bit odd, but really nice too.
  4. where's Iolo when you need him, nothing compares with the bodges he has done! One of the latest of his is welding together a couple of frames to make a tandem and the front headtube being a random 1/16th size so he machined down a 1/8th headset with a grinder and drill, and it worked! There was also the time he welded a frame together with a car battery and welding rod.
  5. I am 50/50 at the moment, part of me wants to go and part of me doesn't, we'll see what happens.
  6. it may be the way I ride, dragging the brake down hills etc. Still unacceptable in my eyes though.
  7. you sure it's the same lever as a Tr? 14mm piston instead of the usual 9mm = sodd all power.
  8. Shimano saint, shimano xtr, formula the one/mega all shit hot.
  9. underpowered, easy to glaze/contaminate. I have a 200mm on the front of my bike and it's still crap.
  10. yes yes yes yes yes, though I hate hate hate hope brakes, get something else lol
  11. the best way I found to do it was to just use a hole saw, drill two holes (any size you like, I think I used 30mm) then use a grinder/file/dremel to join the two up. Bingo, one neat hole with rounded corners.

  13. Yeah, I suspect that the spokes are stretching the flanges out just enough for the bearing to get a little play. Get some red Loctite and apply to the outside of the bearing and re-fit, you shouldn't have any more issues.
  14. It's not that I don't like it, I just don't have much faith in it that's all It also looks far too neat for what is essentially a bodge job, I think it needs some random nuts and bolts in it and possible some random green paint.
  15. that quarry looks amazing! Chris is such a good rider and probably the one I respect the most.
  16. I personally wouldn't want to be using a ti isis bb for anything street related, forces are different from pure trialsy stuff which they are fine for.
  17. a steeper head angle will make the reach longer yes, but the point is that you use a shorter stem to keep your hands in the same place. You then have the benefit of better front wheel moves, x-ups, tailwhips, barspins etc.
  18. if the wheel looks straight in the frame and the chain is tight then leave it. what you need to do is loosen the two vertical bolts so the caliper can move about, spin the wheel fast and bring it to a stop using the brake (slowish stop), this will center the caliper on the rotor, with the lever still held in, tighten the two vertical bolts again. Hopefully the caliper is now straight to with the rotor, if not, loosen one bolt at a time and adjust by eye. If it still rubs, use the adjustment dial to be as close to the rotor as possible without rubbing then back off the cable tension adjusters until the desired lever pull is achieved.
  19. personally I would lengthen the seat tube a tad and maybe make it slightly steeper. I have never had any issues with my seat getting in the way. Other than that it looks pretty sweet, almost the same as the hex but with slightly shorter stays(a good thing). I could be tempted by a slightly steeper head angle though and use a slightly shorter stem.
  20. Fave mod rider? Quite possibly. It's not TGS, its not comp style, you are doing you're own thing and I approve.
  21. I am using maxxis holy rollers and run around 50psi, may try harder as I still rim out when hitting stair bumps.
  22. looking good Gary, I am a fan of those frames!
  23. not sure if I ever rode one of those.
  24. really really really don't like Ice frames, I think they are ugly and are the 2nd worse mod I have ridden (after the older pythons). I am really struggling to suggest any mods I like the feel of, I guess the closest is a Fans.
