  1. I'd keep with a small port head. If I were to do it all again, I wouldn't have a large port, it just seems to be more of a hindrance than a help unless you go BIG turbo.
  2. Looking good Bird, looks like a decent base to start off with. Got the loom out of the Golf, amazing how much there is an a fairly low spec old car. Inside and out there are 96 plugs labelled and recorded, and even the some of them are doubled up (radio, climate control etc): Then pulled the front bumper off, and got the air con rad, and coolant radiator ready to come off: Then hooked up the engine crane once the exhaust and driveshafts etc were disconnected: Then pulled the engine out: Now I have everything I need from the car, so it can go off to be weighed in. The engine and box need a damn good clean, they're rank!
  3. I think I can, but there are slight differences between the two (fuel pump relay/ battery fuse/clocks/ABS-clocks intergration etc). I am going to completely strip the loom from the Golf so I can transplant anything I need to from one to another. I'd rather spend a few hours now labelling it up just in case I do need to chop and change anything.
  4. Not sure "fun" would be a word I'd use with a modern car lol...so much crap in the loom! I'm now onto the inside of the car...its a right mess!
  5. Got my insurance for under £400 (£398.50!) for the first time. Not bad for a £12k car with declared modifications, so pretty chuffed with that, it's always hovered around £500-£600, so when they said "What's the best offer so far?" I thought I'd go in low and say £400, which they obviously beat...wish I'd gone lower now! In actual car news, the PD TT work has begun. I've started stripping and labelling the wiring looms...doesn't look or sound like much (there's 30 connectors identified and recorded), but there's several hours work here! Hoping to get the majority of the wiring out at the weekend, just need to take the dash etc off to get to the bulk of the loom. A friend is lending me a de-pinning tool, so I won't have to improvise with bent-to-shape paper clips anymore lol! Then once I have the TT I have to do the exact same, then swap them over.
  6. I am converting the TT to a PD150 engine, so will be taking the engine (inc. turbo, manifolds, injectors, oil/coolant lines etc), downpipe and cats, all ancillaries (a/c pump, power steering pump, alternator), intercoolers and pipe work , wiring loom, ecu, clocks, throttle pedal, throttle loom. Basically anything that isn't needed will be gone. Could even have the radiator, a/c condenser etc off the golf (and any nuts/bolts, mounts etc you need. If you came and got it, you could have the whole lot for £650 (got potential interest in the individual parts for more than that, but I'd rather it all went in one go, and to a mate who will put it to good use!). The gearbox from the Golf will be available too; it'll have a diesel code box, but with the gear set of the 1.8t (will be putting the diesel gears in the 1.8t Quattro box), not sure if it's much use to you though? Hell, you can have the whole Golf for £700 if you want lol, it'll only be going to the scrapyard, can't be bothered breaking individual doors etc! Timing might work out about right by the time I'm ready to be fair (got to strip the golf first and get rid of that before I start work on the TT) Hit me up on Facebook if you want.
  7. @CurtisRider Paul, I'm breaking a Quattro 1.8t TT with a noisy bottom end, could do you a good deal on a 1.8t conversion with all the parts you need to make your Porsche proper (I know a guy who would give me a new freshly honed block for £50). 225bhp (or 250/260bhp) would be much better I'm sure
  8. I wasn't the only one either. Ive tried to move on with it, but he seems insistent on dragging up past beef between us...to his detriment.
  9. To give that Audi Sport thread some context, Bill sold an exhaust manifold that was utter shit, and lost me power at mapping. He then tried to pay me off to keep quiet about it. A bit of a war developed between 2 rival tuners, and Bill has held it against me ever since.
  10. At the time of their release (earliest TT was 2000, I think?), diesel "sports cars" weren't really a thing, and it wasn't even that popular. Things have massively changed now though, although I do still look at mk2 diesel TT's and question why you'd bother (even more so the convertibles!).
  11. He's just a miserable old bitter twat. Soooo predictable too, I knew he would bite, even though I didn't mention him at all. Poor guy really holds a grudge! Kinda funny really, and as you say, it's damaging!
  12. I don't really understand why he is doing it either in all honesty! Just something different I guess. Keeps me entertained in the process though, so can't grumble! He bought the Golf for £150 (needs a new turbo), and the TT for £400. The 1.8t bits of the TT will sell for £600-£700, and the Golf probably has £150-£200 worth of spares on it, so in theory it's a free car (apart from my labour), so I can see the appeal to be fair. 300bhp's worth of 1.9 PD power in a 4wd TT should have a fairly healthy chunk of torque to go with it, so think it will be a fairly capable car.
  13. When I'm back from Florida, I have a mk1 1.8t Quattro TT to convert to a tdi for a friend. I have a PD115 mk4 Golf sitting at mine waiting, so when I get back I'm going to pull the wiring loom, engine, fuel pump, and clocks etc out. Then I will do the same with the TT, and blend the two together to make a diesel TT. The mounts etc are the same (the diesel block is actually very similar to the 1.8t). Hardest part will be the downpipe creation (there is no off the shelf part, there were no mk1 TT's made as diesels), then have to do some wizardry to make the ecu know the car is 4wd. It's been done before though, so should be possible. Once it's all up and running trouble free, the plan is to then stick a hybrid turbo on, and aim for 300bhp diesel power
  14. And there's the problem. Why would a dealer set something up for a customer that will LOSE THEM MONEY on a £5k sale? Its not exactly sale of the century, I assume a £5k car is the kinda thing sold with very little margin, so the dealer isn't going to bend over backwards to help you. ...my initial point still stands.
  15. I suppose you think baths and showers are disgusting too?
  16. Shut up and get a hair cut Just going from personal experience. I have never ever seen a car that has 0% finance on it on a £5k car. Be interesting to see if there were some though! Maybe I've just been looking in the wrong places though...
  17. You won't get a £5k car on 0% finance. The only way you'll get 0% is with a brand new car.
  18. I'll build you one for nowt if you gimmie a blowie
  19. 2008 Audi S3 (2 litre TFSI) I bought it with 58,000 miles on it. Paid a little over the odds at £11,900...but it was/is MINT. The service history is absolutely exemplary, with more receipts than I have ever seen on a car under 60k, even down to wiper blades and tyres. The thing that really swung it was the last owner took it off Longlife servicing at 20k, and put it on a 5k service interval, so I know its been very well looked after, as a petrol turbo should be! Took a 7 hour train journey and a 5 hour drive home to get it, but was worth it for sure. Looked at a couple more locally, but they were dogs in comparison. They are great cars. Much nicer inside than the equivalent ED30 Golfs, and Leon Cupras...the insides on those feel really cheap and plasticy in comparison.
  20. It's a totally different style compared to the Leon. The Leon was 348bhp/326fltbs in its last "proper" map (never got mapped with the TFSI turbo). That was a hell of a lot more of an aggressive delivery though, so it came in a bigger chunk of power, which in itself generated the obvious wheel spin of a front wheel drive car. Much more entertaining to drive (it tried to throw you off the road with torque steer at any point if you weren't paying attention). Standing starts are obviously far improved with the increased power and grip, although I have an extra 200kg because of the 4wd and leather interior etc, which you can really notice. The biggest increase is in the mid range though, the turbo will spool its nuts off from about 2000rpm, and pulls all the way round, so any gear you can floor it, and it pulls you through. Overtaking is just a case of planting your foot, no need to drop a gear. Great fun, and well worth the money
  21. Its confusing to drive. It doesn't feel "fast" as such, because it's so smooth. There's no massive punch of power, its a constant pull of the torque, and being 4wd, there's absolutely no drama whatsoever...very "squirty", shoot and point driving. If it's just you on the road, its very deceptive unless you look at the speedo and realise you're 100+ within a few seconds. However, if there are other cars on the road, the rate at which you reel them in is absolutely hilarious. Had a tussle with a VXR on the way to picking up a Chinese last night. Absolutely obliterated him, without even breaking a sweat. Need to up by game and find some better cars, lol.
  22. Car got mapped. Car is fast. Winner. 362bhp 381ftlbs (517nm) Look at that curve!!!
  23. If the cables are water damaged, you should really cut them back so they are "clean" rather than the green gunk you get from copper cabling that's gotten wet. You also need to make sure the screws in the terminals are TIGHT. The amount of call-outs we get to burnt out sockets where the customer has "had a go", and ended up with a burnt out socket because the cables were loose, causing a high resistance joint is ridiculous. Other than that, it's fairly simple to do. I disagree about the point that because they are sold in a shop, anybody can do it. Shops sell 2 way switches, intermediate switches etc...but the amount of people that get in a muddle trying to save money is nuts. Electrics are easy if you know what you're doing. If you don't, it can quite easily kill you.
  24. I sincerely hope you are better at riding bikes than you are at driving cars
