i use a long bolt that slides inside the BB and rests against the back of the crank bolt on the opposite side.

Mono to be honest. reason: The teeth the pawls engage into are deeper, thus allowing for a more solid engagement. Although Hope are excellent with repairing damaged hubs there is still the inconvinience of not having a rear wheel for a week or so.
