They said the section was already long enough and it would take too much time if the had to ride over that rail. I agree with you JIX. The final sections usually are only big moves (Y) But even if the moves are mega huge, the best riders still do it. Have a look at some recent results. Benito never had more than a few dabs, no matter how crazy the sections were.

It would be better if the brake mount was closer to the rim. Then you could mount the pads closer to the pivot of the brake arm and thus get much more leverage, which results in better performance.

I assume the backings will have an o-ring, that acts like the clips on plastic backings. Like this:
