WRONG! Have you ever heard of running working gears? It's still not going to be that practical with a low/no seat and it won't gear as high as a roadie for obvious reasons but hey...
-
I would have thought slower speeds would work better, as they'd give you a rougher finished than higher speeds. Try it out and see I guess.

There's the pic of Mike in all its colour glory, I think that's probably the best photograph I've ever taken Oh, and to Ali C it's a blatant step-on, but it made for a nice photo so we didn't really care at the time!

I think I love you Mark that guy sounds awesome... This is also brilliant, really original.

You can't really go far wrong with Dimarzio in my experience, I've got an Evo 2 and a PAF Joe at the moment and I love them to bits You definitely won't do your tone any harm by switching to Dimarzios. But you say you're mainly after the 'stoner' tone, which I think you'd probably be able to get with a fuzz pedal like a Big Muff, most of your tone comes from the amp and effects, the 'quality' of the tone (you get me?) comes from the pickups. (That's a pretty messy generalisation, but it should give you an idea) Also, I've changed pickups in one of my guitars before and adjusted truss-rods and such like and it's really not rocket science, but you'll probably want to practice on a shit guitar before you set about your main axe. Doing the adjustments yourself is a really good way of getting exactly what you want, but make sure you take your time and do everything in little increments or you'll screw something up (for instance, over tightening your truss rod by a quarter of a turn will crack your neck ) Search around for some tutorials on changing pickups if you want to, but it's pretty self explanatory. just make sure that you take good notice of where everything is and should be before you take out your soldering iron and just put the new pickups in the same way (unless you want to include fancy switching options I guess, but why would you?). Failing that, if you haven't got a cheap guitar to try things out on first (like taking the pickups out and putting them back in just to make sure you can! Well worth doing!) I'd just take it to your nearest repair/technician/whatever Hope that helps

Nice job looks good I can just see it cracking the first time you hit it though

fairly predictably alexnessie as well, who seems to have a cactus up his arse most days

I'll agree, he's good at what he does, but he doesn't do much. His style is SO limited I could cry. Give me Satch or Vai any day They're both just much more interesting to listen to, you could hum along to a Malmsteen song even if you'd never heard it before.

Oh GOD NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know exactly what you mean Mark! My fretboard knowledge is probably about as good as it's going to get, i.e. tell me where one degree of a scale is on the neck and I can play the rest of it anywhere. But knowing notes and whatever is stills low for me, and looking at key signatures i have to work it out from the cycle of fifths. It's frustrating for me and it ticks people off when you're playing in a 'big band' sort of situation. But practice makes perfect, so I just keep trying I'm getting better at chord reading now for the jazz band at college, and I think my approach to learning more complex chords (something like Ab7#11 or the like, horrible to look at!) is to work them out properly and get a fingering you can manage, or practice until you can manage one but then learn the shape so it's more instant recall. "Playing theory" as you call it is definitely hella useful! EDIT: Also get some really good guitar playing in your music collection as a bit of encouragement. A lot of the stuff on Strange Beautiful Music by Joe Satriani is pretty achievable and damn catchy to boot, so I'd recommend that. Also anything Dream Theater, Train Of Thought being my favourite.

Amen brother... -
Yeah my guitar's on a wall hanger, you play so much more when it's just there to be picked up. Theory isn't dull! Theory IS music. Anything's dull if you try and learn it for it's own sake, just try to pick some up as you go along and you'll end up as a far better musician.
-
Yeah, it really annoys me when people play something they must be able to hear is wrong, but play it wrong anyway because that's what the tab said. Theory is cool stuff, seriously. It helps you understand what people are doing when they write songs (much easier to work stuff out!) and also which notes to play when you solo etc. I'm trying to get my head round basic jazz at the moment, I've been playing rock and metal for too long. That said a good quote is "Learn all the theory you can, then forget it." So said because it can become a little restrictive on the way you play if you're only playing what's "right" all the time, sometimes "wrong" sounds so much better! (Although you'll probably learn afterwards that "wrong" was just another, more complex form of "right", you always learn new stuff, you can never know it all) MUSIC RULES!!! Man, I should stop now...

Most of the guys in here have got the right idea I'd say, you just want to learn some basic open chords: E, Em, A, Am, D, Dm, C etc. all based around the first few frets. Make up simple chord progressions or learn some Oasis songs or something to get your hand used to moving to the positions, and practice strumming and picking. Picking is often overlooked by people starting out, if you learn to alternate pick (i.e. upstroke, downstroke, upstroke etc.) instead of just playing all downstrokes as a priority you'll be able to progress much faster as this holds a lot of people back! Most importantly, play stuff you actually enjoy listening to or you won't learn, but don't content yourself to bashing out the same Green Day song over and over again! Oh, and actually making sure your guitar is in nice playable shape helps immeasurably. Good luck!

Suck up! Maybe just a little bit?

I just got 12301, but my record is 12625  How do we get at this mini-league? I can't find it... Ben
-
The neon ones are much slower, if you're after getting big rpm scores there not the best. But i just use mine for fun and to keep my wrists from dying so the neon blue suits me fine, i still got 12625 on mine though <_< BTW has anyone seen the new world record video, over 16000!!!

Don't get me wrong, Slash is awesome at what he does, but his style has always been too limited to really appeal.

I think he means use the online one on hope's website... Don't bite people's heads off when they're trying to help ok?

Man I'm bored... Dunno what gave me that idea but hey... (Y) I just saw the pic and thought why not? Ben

I'm in two minds about that. It looks cool and i can see it being immense amounts of fun to ride. However, making it a comp orientated 24" is risky in my opinion (please note: I'm not saying it shouldn't be like this or that, a compy 24" sounds like a rave to me!) because someone who buys a 24" is probably going to want one to ride bmx-style street. Seriously, for most of us moving to 24" would mean a whole new bike, which is a considerable investment and it's a shame that it wouldn't be very comp legal. What I'm trying to say is: Who wants to buy a whole new comp bike they won't be able to enter comps on? Still, I can see there being quite some appeal to the thing... Ramble over...
