Hi guys, Mainly for all the old schoolers and metallurgists: After last week's precipitous Red Bull event I've noticed a few tiny rust patched developing on my Marino frame (being steel) I usually get in the habit of lightly greasing any exposed metal to stop it getting attacked but obviously not this time. Can anyone advise the best way to remove and protect the rusted areas? Also, to what extent is rust a danger in the middle of a tube. How quickly will a frame corrode beyond use? I would treat it like a disease and forcibly remove the rust (sandpaper etc..) and then either try a sprat job or just grease it. Any other thoughts that may help me and few other people here? Cheers Oli

Yeah he more or less grabbed me and pushed me back but I wasn't having it. Appreciated security's presence and all but I had a booking to ride at 8:30 and was told that I couldn't ride because they'd already let in too many latecomers. I had to kick off to the red bull staff which kind of ruined the whole vibe of the evening. It was a great event and really well facilitated. Can't believe how many spectators there were, especially as it was pissing down and fairly out the way of the city centre. Great to see a range of really young to some older guys having a go. Seems like everyone had a great time. Let's get it back next year and stick it right in the centre of town! Ali congrats on the win. God knows how you managed a flip off that tiny kicker!!

Know what pal, didn't make a difference with the rain. It was crackin' ! Might be having a little ride in the centre tomorrow if you're about?

Yep, Rainy, cold and wet. It stopped and brightened up here about 3ish yesterday. Let's hope it does the same today!

I was thinking after purely because the city is really busy in the day. What kind of time did the Bristol event wrap up? Can't imagine it was that late? -
This is such a great idea, it's just a shame it hasn't been a little broader publicised. Been out of the loop for a good few years so next weekend's session in Manchester should be ace. I've checked out the area where it's supposedly happening and although the space and setup has potential, I wouldn't say it's a particularly 'public' place. Sure there'll be plenty of people there!

Yaa effortless! Gap to front next! Looking good pal. You going to be able to ride Manchester in the day before the Street Light Sessions thingy in th'evening?
-
Yah too right I should but I had a hungry woman clinging to my arm desperate for Coke and Potato wedges! I'm more or less free every night after work and weekends as far as the eye can see. We need to find some more decent spots Manc and hopefully some away from the centre, which seems to be ridiculously busy any time of day!

Isitafox: Still haven't had owt through from Red Bull but if you can turn up either way I'll be there! Regards day off work, is t it a Saturday (8th Oct)? Or are you one of the 'lucky' ones? Up for the proposed ride beforehand too? I seriously need to get a helm sorted before then. Be gutted if safety Sam stopped me riding! WIGAN: You scumbag. I forgot you were only just round the corner. I haven't left the house since Leeeds last year. Did some serious personal damage that day! It was a black something but didn't notice the organ helm!

Mystery mod rider spotted in Picadilly gardens again today. There's a good few riders accumulating in Manc now, possibly even riding tomorrow. No need to be trying that gap on your own!

Sorry to bump this one (and for the poor grammar before!). But I'm having massive trouble finding a UK dealer for the pro-Tec Cyphon helmet. Any ideas, or even if it's actually available in tye UK? Cheers Ol

Met up with Hawyes when I was exhibiting at the Cycle Show a couple of years back. He was saying he's more into the moto trials nowadays but still doing a lot of work within the industry. The martyns/martins were and still are huge icons. Thanks to MBUK and vids like Chainspotting and Tricks n Stunts probably also the inspiration and role models of half the UK members of this forum. If I was them I'd want to stake my claim firmly in the spokesperson/development side of the industry as a career actually riding bikes can't last forever! I'm sure he was representing Norco at the Cycle Show (this was back in 2009) Ta

Catlike? Never heard of them and to be Ho eat I thought you taking the Mick but they're actually alright looking! Bit pricey though. Liking the look of the pure White Pro-Tec Cyphon. Anyone got any ideas for UK dealers?

Morning all, I need to get myself a helmet 1. Because I don't have the balance I used to 2. Because it's compulsory for the Red Bull Session in Manchester in a few weeks and 3. Because it's just a good idea (4. Being safe is cool!). I had a really nice specialized lid a few years back until my dad ran it over in the family tank. Problem is, I have a long thin head and look like a real tool in any helmet I've ever tried on. It's not just a case of getting used to it; I look like a tool. What I'm after is something really low profile and sleek. There's something I really enjoy about the look of this one... Giant Vault Helm ...but I know as soon as I try it on, yup, I'll look like a tool. Any ideas for a helmet in this kind of style (sort of cross between regular mtb and bmx? Cheers! Oli

Yes pal, will be there probably along with a few others. Has anyone got a confirmation email for the Manchester session yet? We should agree a meeting place/time closer to the day. -
Ace riding but there's definitely a group of people out there who need a serious talking to about their musical aptitude.!

About 8-10 years ago I ripped right through the chainstay of my Pashley 26MHz ('Pashley what..?' the young'ns might be thinking) after 3 1/2 years of use. The frame is still in my parents loft in Essex somewhere and when they leave this world it will be framed and preserved forever on my wall. Now that is attachment. As for any other bike I've ever had, nothing! Oli

It'll be bizarre seeing so many, let alone any, riders in Manchester for the October date. Feel like we should make the most. Would anyone attending be up for sticking around and riding the city afterwards? The venue is near some fairly decent spots.
-
Hey pal, PMd you a couple of days ago. I'm in Stockport and there are a few others around. Oli
-
Hiya mate, There are a few people around Manc, me included (Stockport) but we don't tend to talk to each other much. I've been on a mission to find people in the area so join in trying to get a ride sorted! PM if you want to sort something out! Oli

Cheers for replies so far. Anyone fancy a trip to manc so I can try out their setups? No..? Don't blame you. Ps. I always found the higher rise stems a bit harder for spins however this was back in the days before geometry was really considered in trials. pps. Had a couple of Bailey's for some dutch courage and Tartybike'd it up with a 90mm 10º. I may regret the decision in the future but that's for me to cry over. Ta again for the help. Case closed!

Hey all, I'm sure this has been discussed a thousand times but I've got to the stage where I have to ask. Why be on the forum if I can't ask ey!? I run an Inspired geo Marino. Currently have a (borrowed) 110mm 10° rise race face stem (as far as I can tell) with a set of Azonic 2" rise bars. I'm a Hope whore so want to get myself one of their ace looking FR stems. Although I like the current set up as it allows a streety feel but still with a bit of length that helps with the more trialsy moves, I miss spinning and the feel of a bike with a shorter front end. Basically I want either Inspired risers or Trialtech Sport riser or High riser (whatever comes with a good recommendation) with a hope FR stem. I want to keep a bit of length for gaps, sidehops etc but not too long that it's a labour to whip out a 360 or two. I wouldn't be too bothered but the Hope is a big investment so want to get it right. No one local to try out setups either. Would really appreciate advice/experiences with 24" setups. Cheers muchly Ol

Heyhey, Was just out for a wander in Manc centre today and surprised to see a mod bouncing up the steps outside the Arndale. Been here for two years and never met another rider. Need to get a manc ride organised befor my legs fall off!
