    New Brake Time

Sounding good, sounding good Yeah your right, compared to a maggy that isn't a great deal I suppose. Ultimates do sound very good, but at £54.99 a crack i'm not feeling that. It's something I can upgrade to later on I suppose. Yes again I do love the xtr levers, i've got one on the front for the avid, so I suppose it's only the law to get matching? Cheers guys, any more help would be grand
  2. Yo, Basically I'm in serious need of a new back brake. I've had the same magura since I started trials, the tpa has broken numerous times and one slave has stopped returning, i'm forever setting up the pads as whenever I set it up, pull the brake a bit hard and the pads have moved in again. Constant Nightmare. So as I ride an Ashton and ride street all the time, i'm thinking a vee brake may be a better option. Been talking to Ali C about this and he highly reccomends it, as does bigman who is also a magura to vee convertor. So as I can't find a new '04 maggy anywhere and I cannot stand the new style ones, I may get this: Avid 7 arms and lever £40 Heatsink backings with joypads - £20 Odyssey Linear Slic Kable - £6 Heatsink v brake adaptors - £29 Total = £95 ouch I do like the feel of a V brake and the fact you can just replace the pads easily, easy set up and that, no bleeding or tpas to break. This is all sounding pretty good to me but is there anyone out there whos made the same choice? Is £95 for one brake going to be worth it, i need it to work well and even better that it'll be near silent. I don't want to spend all that and be dispointed so thought it was worth this (long) topic. Thanks a lot fellow TFers
  3. Tommy baby is doing it now Arn't you stephen!
  4. How amazingly good was that!! Nick G is so so good!! Really like his style. Top vid all round, had to watch it a few times to take everything in. Good editing and music as well. Great vid with great riders

    Nimh Batteries

All the batteries mentioned are very good!! However, personally if I was buying batteries right now I'd get the new Sayno eneloops!! Sayno claim that they work in colder conditions than normal rechargeables and over a period of 1 year keep 80% of a full charge. If you charge some batteries, leave them for a month and go to use them, they go flat really quickly. So it's to prevent that sort of thing. From what i've seen there about the same price as normal rechargeables anyway. [attachmentid=8882] CLICK
  7. Na don't get the D40, espically since it only takes AF-S lenses. So I know a few of mine won't work on it, even though there digital lenses. D50 is good, don't bother with the twin lens kit as the 55-200 is pretty naff. Better off starting with the 18-55mm kit lens then getting like a Sigma or whatever telephoto later on. Even better still, if you can try and get a D50 body and buy or somehow pick up a nikon 18-70mm (D70, D80 kit lens) as this is better. The 400D has replaced the 350D with 10mp, more AF points and a self cleaning sensor. If you can afford it and what not, probably better to go with the 400D. There is one main difference between the two is how they handle, the nikon tends to be a bit bigger, but not a lot as the D50 is the smaller entry level camera if you like. A lot of people tend to compare the 400D with the D80, and they feel quite different, the Nikon being bigger and heavier which some people prefur, some don't depending on how big your hands are I suppose. Both excellent cameras and you won't be disappointed with either one in terms of image quality and performance, it's a matter of going into a shop and trying them both out before you buy.
  8. Nice photos bruv! Some proper nice flash stuff there, like the sence of movement in the first lot. (NEEEERRRRDDDDD) (you) (glasses) ( ) Looked a good day
  9. Savage. Supposed to be some 'competition' for photos from the day........ HERE
  10. Whats happend to Fred? People have posted plenty of photos now......
  11. Punkrider. Photo is damm amazing, the colour range, the overcast sky, everything!! Even more brownie points since it was taken on someone elses camera! Top notch mate, good job P.S. I personally think the winner of each category should pick the next subject?

    What Camera

haha ok so maybe I was a bit unfair. To be honest, I haven't had much experience with sony/panasonic cameras myself, just what i've read/heard/been told. Not just from the boss or others either, mostly customers and the likes. I can't be bothered to go into 'we sell blah blah because blah blah' I'd rather leave more shop talk out of it. Ok calling it 'rubbish' was a bit strong, but there are better ones out there for the similar sort of market IMO( don't kill me). It looks good on paper and all that but I dunno, it just doesn't seem to have taken off much? Like you said, each to their own but I don't think you can really go wrong with a fuji, then again if your liking the look of the panasonic with the leica lens then go for that. Cameras are a very personal choice as to handling and the layout etc so best to go try them both out. As for IS, I think the fuji has some sort of anti shake mode, so same sorta principle I guess. I think noise is definatley an issue on the smaller bridge cameras, I know at iso 400 my fuji was very noisey and a friends S9500 is as well. Have you looked at the Olympus SP510UZ? Thats a nice handling camera with 10x optical zoom and all the rest, could be worth considering. Sorry I upset you Chris *hug*
  13. Think you've contradicted yourself there, you were saying it's the camera and the equipment that helps you get better shots? True. So I don't think spending hours in Photoshop on a photo that you've already taken with decent kit is going to change much. If the photo needs fully re-correcting then you (not actually you) must be a pretty crap photographer and may as well have a compact. Don't know about you but I never ever spend hours on end in photoshop changing an image to get it to 'competition standards' Normally just the usual levels, maybe B+W if it needs to, a crop etc, just the basics. I wouldn't say that was fair, there are many knowledable photographers and designers on this site who know what there talking about.
  14. This is where you need a big poster to pull out your pocket with that owl and O RLY on it. What a dumb ass lol. D40 has a nice big screen, but no top lcd, instead the settings come up on the back like the olympus, canon etc. It's nice enough and Dan is spot on with the leading into photography thing. Only thing is it only takes AF-S lenses, something to definatley bare in mind, when you get into it and want to upgrade lenses to find the one you want won't work with your camera, this is when you wish you got a D50.

    What Camera

FUJI!! all the way, why? for starters companies like sony, panasonic etc make cameras, but they also make TVs, Hi-fis, dvd players etc etc. So they don't specialise in cameras, fuji do, so I'd say they know what their doing a lot more! Hence why Sony's first DSLR is rubbish, they rushed it out to try and stop previous minolta owners from swapping brands, they also change their models alot, along with other bits and bobs, also why their dvd camcorders are rubbish, but thats a different matter. I'm not sure on panasonic but i'd say they were a company more like sony, not specialising in cameras so much. The fuji is very nice to handle, it also has face detection which works REALLY well!! Ideal for taking portraits, no matter where their face is in the frame, it detects where it is and focuses on it, so unlike a normal camera where it just focuses in the middle, meaning you'd have to move the focus point to the face to insure it's sharp. To make that more clear, watch this video. (it's a bit fake but you get the idea) CLICK The Fuji's grip is really great, it's quite deep and cut to fit your hand. The screen is big and easy to put into manual controls. The main modes are Auto, A, S, M, movie plus a load of others like night, landscape etc. Then you just use the D pad to adjust the shutter speed, aperture or whatever. Fuji is actually really cheap now as well for what you get. You won't be disapointed at all!!
