Does anyone over 30 still ride trials :(
ChrisBrown81 replied to ChrisBrown81's topic in Trials Chat
Well I'm not loaded but, if it's only an extra £40 for the inspired I might go with them. Any big differences between the 2? -

I'm loving all the love for older riders So I've had my Onza Zoot for 2 weeks and I love it!! I've changed the rear sprocket for slightly higher gearing and changed the stem for a shorter, steeper one...so good to manual!! Really into my manuals and am currently trying to master 'G'-turns. The gaps I'm doing may have got lower and narrower but my smiles are bigger than ever!!! -

thanks for the tips! I was already looking at the forks (to be honest I just like the way the straight blades look -
Gearing! A bit too easy for street...

So with my onza Zoot having an 18t freewheel at the front does that mean the rear is like a fixed sprocket? -

Does no one find 18/14 just not enough? I don't know if it's because I'm nearlly 15st that it takes more force to push me forward but when I'm wanting to drop off (if that's the correct term?) When I'm on the back wheel hopping and want to use a qtr turn of the cranks to push me forward while hopping it's like there's not enough force there? Maybe it's just me and I need to get used to it then.... I just wondered if anyone had,had similar experience and had changed thier gearing.. -
Hi, I've recently bought a Onza Zoot for a bit of street/trials but I'm finding the gearing just a bit too easy. Currently running 18t freewheel up front and 14t at the back. I'm wanting a little more bite and a little more speed. So my questions are, what is everyone else running on 24" wheels and what do you recommend changing mine to get what I require? And could I just change the freewheel up front? Thanks

Does anyone ride in Newark on trent?
ChrisBrown81 replied to ChrisBrown81's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
Yeah I drive so can get there. Let me know when you're out and I'll tag along if that's ok? -
Hi, having my second wind with trials/street (last one was in the late 90's in my home town of Sheffield) but since moving to Newark I have no one to ride with! Looking for some like minded individuals who can show me good spots and maybe teach this old dog some new tricks

I was happy for £300. I see her as a stepping stone to bigger and better things as I progress. The beauty of trials bikes as a whole is that they are relatively cheap and pretty simple...if the worst happens and something breaks. Now all I'm missing is some nice weather...and by nice just dry will do .. -

It's only got some avid discs....a slight improvement on the standard V's I'd say! Well been out today and loved it!! After riding full sus or hardtail for the last few years, As couple of hours riding has really took it out of my wrists!! Haha... But I'm sure I'll get used to it! What I need now is to hook up with some better riders and progress my own abilities, then as I get better I'll start upgrading the bike. -

Btw something that really caught me off guard about my new bike.....since when did freewheels get brought up front with the cranks?? I know I've been out the trials game for 16years but I've still been into mountain bikes, even did a couple of DH races last year but I've never seen anything like it till yesterday. Can someone explain why they do this now? Sorry I'm such a noob... -

Wow. I'm so pleased with the response this thread has got. It's great to see so many 30,40 and 50+ still in the game!! Sorry I've taken so long to reply...I can only make 3 posts a day as I'm new to the forum Anyway yesterday I said I was getting a bike ASAP and wanted an inspired street style one. Well after a quick search on ebay/gumtree etc a 2014 Onza Zoot was for sale right on my doorstep. I know people aren't going to like that and it gets mixed reviews but It hasn't a mark on it. Completely standard apart from the brakes had been updated to Discs. Seller wanted £400 I managed to get it for £300. I'm really happy with it for now while I practice more...I am still eventually upgrade to an inspired but as I said, it was on my doorstep, price was good and I really wanted to get out and ride! So I'm from Sheffield originally but now live in Newark on Trent. Looking to ride around Sheff, Notts, Mansfield, Chesterfield...anywhere a bit local really...so if anyone's near bye, give me a shout! -

Right guys last post of today until I have 2 more 'approved' posts. Can anyone tell me the difference in the inspired bikes? Are they all the same frame just higher up the range are better spec'd? Thanks in advance! Chris -

thanks for the feedback everyone! It's sort of made my mind up for me....I'm going to get a bike in the next week and get out there! I'm defo getting one of the 24" 'street' trials bikes though....I've gotta have a seat haha.. -
I grew up in the late 90's when trials was still starting out (we just used to copy to 2 Martins and call it street/urban riding). After finding women and cars I gave up on bikes till about 4 years ago I got another MTB and got back into Dh. Now I want to go back to my roots and give trials a go again...but I don't want to look like a silly old fool on my own... Does anyone over 30 still get out there and ride trials?
