i have an echo 116mm and 18t freewheel on it's way to me. the cassette is a temp measure

here you can see why the standard magura mount didn't fit. the bosses are 100mm apart standard mtb is 75 mm

no...i have 4 m5x100mm bolts and a section of alloy tube that is 8mm o/d and 5mm i/d that i can cut into 4 to sleeve the holes that someone drilled in the frame. the holes have an i/d of about 7mm (with a thread cut in the lower 2) so i will grind about 1mm off the sleeves....they are only to centralise the bolts in the holes.......it.ll be fine...trust me (although i wouldn't let hans rey ride it!!

no etch on the alloy? i may try this!!

sorry...didn't take any, basically, due to the width of the stays...to allow for wider trials rims, the normal 2 v brake mount i have for maguras from my mtb doesnt fit! so i need offset mounts attatched to the frame with 4 long bolts that go right through the stays!! i was sure that i could get it to work somehow......but no!! and i'm going to sweeden for the day on saturday, so can't do anything until sunday.....in fact, can't do anything until i get those mounts off you!!! looks like i'll be out on the san andreas this weekend then!! i'm thinking a wider rim would make life sooooo much easier (and a frame without the threads drilled out!!!)

tapped m8 holes....bolted posts in...offered magura up....stays too far apart that's that then.....offset's needed!!!

ha ha....true.......but luckily i am no good yet, so these frames are well over-engineered for my riding!!!

lovely bike...........so we're both building cheap nice bikes......using 2nd hand stuff......and gold!!!!! ha ha

yeah.....and to use on my next frame. the vee mount is just an idea i had last night...using what parts i have. but thinking about it, the bolts through the frame method will be alot stronger as twice as many bolts = half the load on each bolt (A)

The reason for tapping for v mounts is I have an old magura hs11 with v mounts and booster...the q r type. Using this and getting your white forks gives me hydro rim brakes all round. ....and still putting v's on it when it gets demoted to 2nd frame!!!! (When I get a replacement...obviously) There is a lot more metal round the boss than my san andreas has!!!!!

its already two sizes up as someone drilled the original threads....and then i've tapped it again...........and 517 is a narrow rim, cheers.........offsets it is then

i tapped the 2 lower holes to accept v brake mounts....well nearly...the tap snapped and was about 2mm below the surface!! googled how to remove steel taps from aluminium. this left me with 2 choices...spark eroding or using alum (potash) to dissolve the steel, which requires the frame to be boiled in a solution for 3-4 hours......both totally impractical on a £30 frame! so...if the frame is scrap....i've nothing to loose .....so i cleaned up nails and welded them to the top of the snapped off tap.....thinking the weld doesn't stick to the alloy. and the heat from the weld will cause the frame to expand more than the tap. each welded nail undid about half a turn before snapping.......but it was working so i just got in from 2 hours welding in my unit........with a frame with no tap in it!!! and managed to finish off the thread with the other half of the tap but need another tap for the other side

it has mounts but no threads...i'll look into tapping and helicoils....cheers...oh anybody got any offset mounts?
