  1. James Hyland did a lot for me, and this is why TK's will always be important to me. He helped me out and showed me loads of things editing wise... and taught me about mpg encoding and all sorts, so I owe a lot to him, the guy's a legend, and its wicked how far hes got on the UK scene. I remember taking an awesome photo at Bike 2003 of Danny and Adam sitting down on their PX's together facing away from me with these bright, eye-catching Planet-X jerseys on, twas an awesome site, just screamed TK to the on-looker. Sad thing is, I think I lost that, along with all the other photos, when my major hard drive decided it would be a good time to wipe itself! Shame on me for not having them backed up, but we all learn from mistakes, sometimes harsh mistakes! Now I have some new kit, Im gonna try travel a bit more and get some vids made of the people who really are making the scene, or who have made history, would be an honour in my eyes if they agreed to ride for me! Me me me me, shut up J! (Y) Jonny.
  2. To be honest, I really wish I was that good at making sites when I was 13, cos thats how old these guys are! Pretty good site guys, although you just need a bit more colour and indeed some photos of your bikes and things! Keep it up! Jonny.
  3. Yea dude, ill be outside the station. My train gets in at 11.25. J.
  4. Yea gonna be iffy 2moz, i really dont wanna take my new camera out in the pouring rain.. but if it isnt too bad in the morning, ill go. Shrewsbury is going no matter what = nutter (ground rims, explains it!) Jonny.
  5. Yeah, ive seen the trialmedia video of Tim Pratt, the tree thing was insane! :) :- I'll always love that section from K5 - riding is wicked, original in places and the editing on the bit wheres hes riding that curved rail/art piece is wicked. Nice find. Jonny.
  6. ;) Pffffff... ....pfffffffffffffffff! GOD THAT WAS BADASS! Riding was just minted... but you dont need any of my comments to tell you that, video said it all! J.
  7. Damn. I miss the best rides, even though it was wet? Id love to quit my job and just ride and film all day, but that aint gonna happen! J.
  8. I wont be mate, sorry. Its a Sony DCR-TRV18E.. about 4 years +/- old? Discontinued. Thanks for your comments... I wish HDV compression worked like u mentioned above, would be ace... well, at least I dont think u can compress it like that!! Ive not really tried with HDV yet. Heres hoping. J.
  9. Nice lookin site... bit messy in places though. Funk the first page up though, the 'splash' page... or if need be scrap it.. does it have a function? Ive added you to my links page :P Jonny.
  10. Sorry for the bump... What I meant was saying that is like saying 'we dont need HD for anything'... well, we do.. eventually all we watch will be in HD. It wont happen for a little while web wise, but as soon as people upgrade their computers, get faster net connections, HDV will take over - this is just based on innovation, nothing else. I think everything that needed to be said has been, so over and out. If you're baffled, PM me lol. Jonny.
  11. Awesome site C. Really loving it! J.
  12. Exactly my thoughts... but would I be kicking myself.. more like jumping for joy surely haha?! Im studying BA(Hons)Digital Screen Arts... im in my second year. And for the guy who thinks being arty or caring about your video work is all about crazy angles, with nothing but blue sky, ur basing that on the brighton trials video and nothing more from what I can see. Innovation is happening all the time.. EVERY rider can be artistic and creative... the sky is the limit lol! Jonny.
  13. Nice to see how a frame is made.. but when i think of frames being made, I think 'precision' and 'using a jig'... those videos dont say that to me im affraid.. sorry (Y) J.
  14. 10 Meg lines will be readily available sometime next year, a mate at uni already has one at home. HD TV's will also be big next year.. this means they will become way more affordable than they are at the mo. It's not Trials, but check this video of a couple of Kittens chilling on a couch I found - http://tv.isg.si/site/?q=filebrowser/trialmedia/HD (11mb for about 20secs I think it is - WMV) If you think we dont need HD for trials, im sorry, but your mind and imagination is simply bland (Y) - Im sure after experiments etc, everybody's minds will be altered. Jonny.
  15. Not bad videos, wicked riding. Didnt like all the writing jumping all over the place on the street video. What blew me away was the quality of that H264 Codec, Apple have got it going on! J.
  16. That Panasonic one looks good! If you cant find it, go with Sony. I have a DCR-TRV18E - its 5 years old, MiniDV and its been good for all web stuff. Only thing is, they dont make my camera any more.. so. Basically, all u need i the cheapest MiniDV camcorder you can get. Doesnt really need 3CCD if you're just starting out... BUT DV In/Out is a really good idea, cos then you can put vids you've edited back onto MiniDV tape and show mates out on rides before u put it on the web and stuff... all good fun! Check http://www.ebuyer.com for some bargains. Jonny.
  17. Sorry for the bump, but its a wmv, doesnt play on Quicktime? Its a Windows Media Player format. J.
  18. Sorry Dave, but surely you have more important things to worry about? people actually want others to see their proud steeds, im sure you can understand this... J.
  19. Yea Charlie, liked it! Very blue.. not sure if you found that white balance button we talked about hehe! J.
  20. I have some of those old XTR's on my Leeson - they came with the frame, Matt Tongue had the frame originally and he specced it with those cranks and leeson bash. The cranks are nackered but the bash is still solid after god knows how many years of use! You cant go wrong with Leeson and/or XTR cranks! I would go out and take a photo of them but its pissing it down! (Y) J.
  21. I really dont know, but by the way information on apple.com suggests, a 4 min video might be around 80mb?! Plus/Minus a few mb? - this is for 480p - the lowest frame size for HD. Ive been talking loads about it today at Uni and apparently you can film stuff in HD and theres a function in the camera that lets u capture at normal definition, but the quality is still slightly better than a normal MiniDV camera, so theres that aspect!! I know ive said 'Standard MiniDV it is then!'... but I think HD is a good idea - cos my current camera has been with me for about 5 years now... so if people invest now, it will last!! Jonny.
  22. Thanks for your comments people. Most of the comments are helpful... Ratcliff proved a good point about the reduction of resolution when exporting/compressing for the web. Also, very true about the fact that this country is behind on this kinda thing. I watched some HD movie trailers from apple.com on an iMac G5 this morning and even the 1080 version couldnt fit on the big screen the Mac had. Played it ok though... on the 720p setting - smaller frame size. All this said, I don think the net's ready quite yet. I only started this thread as im 'uming and erring' about which camcorder to get next. Theres an affordable HD camera on the market with professional features... but it is 1700 quid and if im not gonna use it (the HD feature), theres no point in spending the money. Give it a few years and im sure the prices will come down on cameras, there will be more of them and the UK will actually be ready, not to mention hosting will be pretty impressive! MiniDV camera it is hehe! Jonny. P.S. - Bit of a selfish thread, sorry
  23. Hi people, We've been discussing HD (High Definition) cameras and its uses at university recently and im just interested in what you all think - as far as the web is concerned. Do you think it's ready for HD? Bear in mind, HD means stupidly high resolution and stupidly high file sizes (even when using .MOV with H264 compression - see apple.com about this)... so really its only suitable for people with really good internet connections - i.e. 2mb and above? Basically, HD means that when filming using an HD camcorder, you are using 1080 lines of resolution, instead of the standard 625 (PAL) lines which is what all MiniDV camcorders record at. It stays at 1080 if you're shooting using a Progressive Scan camera (which means all the odd and even lines in each frame match up together) - most camcorders are not Progressive, and this is why you get nasty lines across the screen when your slowing footage down or applying effects - if not, then you have to de-interlace your footage when editing, so this brings it down to 720 lines - not that much more impressive than standard DV (625). Id love for you to share your opinions if you're not confused by this.. if you are then fair enough, its not widely talked about all that much yet. Jonny.
  24. Sounds like a wicked idea dude! One thing though, I dont think you need to do product reviews.. it just seems kinda out of place to what you're trying to achieve with the website - get yourselves a little exposure to the 'ever growing trials scene'. Up to you though of course, just my personal opinion. Good luck with it all  Jonny.
