Teenage Angst Communal Agony Aunt Thread
1a2bcio8 replied to Has anyone seen my shoe?'s topic in Chit Chat
It's a good point that you're just getting to know one another. Sometimes learning and alligning with each others 'grooves' takes a while. Sometimes you both gel instantly but it's never a given. Regardless of how it is in the start though doesn't mean much about how it can ultimately be. I wouldn't get too hung up about each relationship needing to follow the same pattern though. It's good to just go with what works and what happens, within obvious limits. We are creatures of habit however and sometimes we end up a bit too dependent on that habit for security. Anyway, ramble over. Good luck. -

I can't say I've had that trouble but I can understand it happening in either sense of really liking her or thinking about your differences. Obviously if you really like her you can pressure yourself with the idea it's really important to make the experience the best it can be - the irony being that the concern has the opposite effect like when we worry about doing a trials line and the fear ruins our concentration and makes us more likely to mess up and hurt ourselves. And in terms of difference, sometimes we can carry preconceived ideas about what the other person is expecting based on their difference. Usually there's a thought occuring in either of these senses that leads to a problem but it can easily be subliminal, our awareness only catching it in the corner of its eye, so to speak. I guess you've gotta try and pay attention to the subliminal thoughts that occur just before you get down to business or the ones that occur when you imagine the situation. You can also patiently pay attention to the feeling that surround or relate to the situation which can often bring up an enlightening thought. Or alternatively tell her about it? It might relieve some of the pressure? She might even like the fact that nerves are getting to you because you like her so much? Women seem to typically be more about the liking thing than the sex thing in my experience. Regardless of any of this stuff anyway, I bet the more time you spend with this girl and the more comfortable you become, the issue will just fade away even if you manage to understand it or not. When you mentioned interacial relationship I thought you might be going through the interesting experience I did of racism toward being white from gf's family. -

Been out with a couple of Indian girls if that's what you mean? Why are you asking out of interest? Having trouble based on your differences? -
Skills and variation. Good stuff and make some more

Sorry to be a pedant but 18.8lbs isn't 1.75kg it's 8.5kg. To be honest I'm not sure why I'm even bothering to point it out. Clearly I have nothing better to do with my time at the moment. edit: hold on, are you refering to just the frame?

Ignore the individuals that are ignorant about the nature of fashion and convenience of classification. As is standard they try to draw you into their world of confusion as though they are ironing out your problem and not their own. I enjoy watching your riding regardless of whether your style doesn't adhere to the typical way a mod bike is rode. In my eyes, you're just a bike rider expressing a style that you enjoy and are obviously competent at. Good stuff and keep it up; you've definitely got skills on a bike. edit: are you sure your bike is 1.75kg?

Love your momentary front to backs up walls. All in all, good stuff

I've also got some 24" pashley forks for sale but in green - probably slightly darker than your frame though. Great condition (hardly used), £50 including insured p+p if interested.

I get bored fairly quickly riding TGS although it's still alright when I can do bmx type stuff as well. I like having lots of different things to learn and the feeling of flow is more rewarding for me than hopping. BMX is too small for me and I prefer the trials community to what I experienced of the bmx one. 24" is basically the best balance for me. Danny Mac, awesome as he is, has never really played much of an inspirational role in my wanting to ride 24". Eddie Tongue, on the other hand, certainly has. I could watch him ride up and down curbs all day.

Thanks for the commentary, chaps. I really need to sort out a proper vid where I push myself but I'm lacking the filmers to do so at the moment

Trying to distract myself from life at the moment so took the vid camera out to see what my riding was looking like. Nothing particularly interesting but thought I'd put it up here as something to do.

Unforunately just after I released that one of my hard drives died resulting in the loss of most of that footage. I've still got the blackpool comp stuff and maybe a few random clips so maybe one day I'll do something with that. I have got an external hdd reader that may work with the drive so perhaps i may be able to rescue the lost footage. Probably not though. Motivation and interest seems to be a problem these days as is perhaps evident with my effort on this vid. So, sorry about that if I don't manage to sort it.

Little vid, almost no effort put into the edit aside from the minor attempt at silliness, which didn't really have much thought put into it either. Not sure the music goes very well but meh. Probably regret the whole thing later. http://vimeo.com/15240494 Will get a 'proper' vid out of myself soon where it takes 1000 goes to get each line sort of thing.

60 in the front, 40-50 in the back. I find there's no reason to have a lower pressure in the front but the back is sometimes worth it for higher bunnyhops and smoother landings. Delicate balance though between a smooth landing and tyre foldage on moves like 360 drops with the lower pressures.

You're in the same position as me at the moment with the kick whips. The problem is you need to get more air time with your body or you need to increase the speed of the whip so, either way, you have more time to land. At the moment the only reason you're getting one foot on is you're retracting that leg into your body. I doubt you could land both feet on the pedals with that sort of retraction in both legs - but maybe it's possible? Also when you start getting either more air time or a faster whip you'll be left with more time to look where your feet are going to go - that point where you actually get a moment to plan is when you've got the whip/air time technique dialed and all you need to focus on is the confidence to actually land one. I am however making assumptions about the similarity between whips out of quarters and those out of a kick. I struggle to see that there should be any difference though.

Man, I so wanted to go on Monday I hope you're all going back soon. It looks like so much fun...

Sorry dude, I did miss that. I thought that the lower area of text was just refering to the fact that the video hadn't embedded in the post. I thought overall the editing was good. You lined up the music to the riding really well in a way that really emphasised the power of the moves. I wasn't too keen on the jumpy bits of editing that you fitted to the music but that's just a personal thing; something I used to do in fact but am just not so keen on these days. These days i prefer as much flow as is possible. And like I said, i appreciated your music choice and the way that, especially alongside the moving shots, they generated a really good feel to the vid. Again to the editing.

Awesome little vid there. Liking the bmx moves alongside your obvious power but also the vid had a good feel with a more interesting tune that I normally experience with trials vids. A from me.

I'm in Swindon this weekend. If you come on Sunday I'm happy to show you all around.

Lower or upper? I definitely have had trouble with my lower but resolved this with resistence training and yoga/stretching. Basically, squats and deadlifts are really good in terms of weights. Most especially though I found a machine that very specifically targets your lower back. I'm not sure what it's called but you rest the front of your legs on it (it ends at your waist area) from where you pivot your upper body down from the hips and then back up. As you get better you hold onto weights as you do it. This basically fixed a two year lower back problem i had a few years back. In terms of stretching, forward bending, the pigeon (look it up) and the plough (look it up) are most helpful. Really though the best way to avoid problems is to have a balanced effort in stretching and resistence training so working on your whole body. Lack of balance in either flexibility or strength can cause back or other problems within themselves. Probably that's actually your current problem.

Would You Stay With Someone If They Cheated On You?
1a2bcio8 replied to Papa Manual's topic in Chit Chat
I was cheated on and at the time I would have taken her back by virtue of how I felt for her. This is despite the fairly brutal way in which cheated on/dropped me. This wouldn't always be the case, I'm sure, but I'd never connected with another female to that extent before or since then for that matter. However, at this point, despite a part of me still missing and wanting to be with her it doesn't seem like a very sensible option in the hypothetical sense; it's certainly never going be a real option. Are you sure the motivation for this thread doesn't relate to yourself, Jon? Other forum, eh? -
Well, I certainly hope you're right. Having more of a 'scene' would certainly make that scene more enjoyable. More 24" riders to ride with and more videos to inspire would be awesome. Anyway, this sort of video definitely contributes to positive change. Again, good stuff.

The thing is these chaps form a minority of people that are approaching trials in this way. As far as I can tell, 24" riding, and especially this variety, is dying off. TGS dominates. I'm glad people enjoy TGS and what not but it would be awesome to have more people doing what Mark and Stan are doing.

Yeah another awesome weekend of Bristol group riding. Make sure you all come back soon
