  1. It's probably easier if you tell us your budget and we'll advise you on what to get. Amp wise you should be able to pick something decent up from ebay pretty damn cheap. Remember that you don't need all the flashy things like graphic equalizers etc, and go for something functional, marantz, cambridge audio, NAD are all good quality. As for speakers i'm not really up on them, and am using a 25 year old pair of sony ones off my parents old system. There not the greatest quality in the world, but sound pretty good considering they were free
  2. Auto Mod Please use the Best Of The Internet for topics like this.
  3. I'm talking about the cross section of the booster. A simple flat design will twist when enough force is applied to it, even if the force is in the same plane as the sheet. Therefore having some material bracing the out of plane movement will help improve the overall stiffness of the design. If you don't know what i mean have a look at the shimano xtr carbon boosters, they have a slight I cross section.
  4. it's a virus, one of the girls in my house had it in the 3rd year. Try reloading windows (repairing by full install may work and save you time).
  5. Get an amp and a decent pair of proper speakers. Shouldn't cost you loads (look on ebay for cheap decent amps) and will sound 10X better than most computer speakers. I've got a Cambridge audio A1 amp and a pair of old school sony speakers hooked up to my media pc, sounds really good for music and films.

    Ribo Casas.

Can you keep topics like this in the news section please. Also a better way for this to get seen by the max number of people as poss is to use your banners. They get randomly shown then no matter where the person is looking
  7. Right enough. Pete, thats a completely pointless topic have a warning. And you say you want to point and laugh, I could deconstruct virtually every one of your posts and show them for the bull they are. Someone's trying to sell a bike on ebay, you think it's expensive, NEWSFLASH!! Don't buy it then.
  8. The analysis of frames using FEA is a very sketchy business at best, due to the extreme difficulties in the modelling of welded joints etc. I guess the easiest way to do a rudamentry study would be to construct a solid model and show where the areas of highest stress are, then address those regions. That way you avoid the pitfalls of trying to show "real" figures which would always include far more error than actual engineering signals. A poor model can do more damage than good as it will cloud and often falsly influence decisions. I think FEA is a bit too ambitious for an A2 project. It might be better going back to more basic physics principles in order to qualify your improved designs. I'd usually offer to knock up a frame in Unigraphics, but it kinda goes against the whole idea of you doing the work, and i don't have the time at the moment. In terms of going back to basic physics, try isolating the section(s) you've changed and create a boundary around them, working out the inputs through the boundary and go from there to do your calculations etc. Thats the best approach to complex problems, when hand calcs are the only option.
  9. It's always good for a first attempt to be a slight iteration on an existing design. You get to see where improvements can be made then without as much development time being needed to get an initial shape. I'd like to see some completely radical designs for a tensioner at some point, but to get it out of the way at all would need for it to be based on top of the chain, which isn't possible due to the tension caused when you pedal.
  10. Looks quite well made, was it custom layed up, or just made from a sheet, looks like the former to me. I'd like to see a bit more clearance, and if its custom layed up then making it in either a slight L, T or I shape would add to the stiffness withought increasing weight (you can take some material to allow for clearance then). No-one is yet to beat the stiffness for weight of the shimano carbon booster.
  11. I highly doubt its your power supply. I'm running a 400W enermax which is powering by beastily overclocked dual core system, with quite a few drives and a 7800GT, so i can't see how your burning an extra 80W compared to me. Those tagans are excellent psus so i would look elsewhere first. My first port of call would be the RAM. I've had problems similar to this in the past when my RAM had slight problems. Also are you overclocking at all? As some games don't like your pc to be overclocked. BF2 didn't like it when it was first released and it was only one of the later patches that finally helped this out. Another thing to check is that your northbrige isn't getting too hot. I had this problem with my passively cooled Abit AN8-SLi when i put it in my new case, so i added an additional 120mm intake fan to increase the air flow through the case which remedied it. I wouldn't think specific software would cause this as it sounds like a hardware fault, and so it's more likely to be linked with either a specific memory location, or when your pc suddenly goes from idle to full load very quickly. Just another thought, what sort of temps are you running at? I remember you having pretty much silenced your system before the end of uni so heat could be a problme with all your fans running on low voltages.
  12. Simon, you want to be careful about throwing the reliant comments around. Maybe add in robin after or be severely embarrased when pretty much ever car on this forum gets beasted by phunts reliant. It is a rather special one, and does contrary to most peoples thought logic actually have 4 wheels, i think they were OZ supa legras (or whatever there called) last time i saw it As for comments on the above car, someone was trying to create a new hot spv and got thing horribly wrong, so thought sod it lets find a market for our mistake lol Seriously can't see that holding any weight with the srift guys, they seem to be almost as much about looks as performance and that, is butt ugly. If i wanted a fiat doblo van i'd buy one, if i want a drift car i would never think about using a doblo!!
  13. No need to get warned as you've realised your mistake and apolagised, just don't do it again!
  14. Great news. Glad to hear he's well on the road to recovery. Let's hope he manages to make a full recovery, bar the mental scars, which will no doubt take a lot longer to heal.
  15. Phase 2 complete. Now has new front wheel and forks fitted, 05 Maz dropoffs 130mm travel and a sun singletrack on Hope ProII bolt through hub. Rides really nicely now, the newer damping system in the forks is really noticeable and the whole thing rides a lot better now. Front brake to go back on (deore hydro) with a 203 upgrade kit, and a new bar and stem already bought and ready to fit, race face diablos bars and easton vice stem. Should get that done this week hopefully.
  16. Right just to back up Rich's line in the sand. Any more bickering in here will result in a warning and a 1 day ban for disrespect. just adding another voice to the can we get an update group. Would be good to hear how the lads getting on. Drive safe everyone. Andy
  17. I graduated this summer and like Steve said, getting a job lined up straight away is a real boost. I did a placement year and have gone back to the place where i did that, so was lucky in that i didn't have to apply for jobs and go to interviews etc in the final year. On the house front, I'm currently back at home for a few months as buying a car was a higher priority for me (as i have to commute to work) than finding somewhere to move out too. I set myself a 6 month limit within which i want to move out but i can see that moving out to a year at the present rate. I've never been that good at managing my money and so far have managed to spend pretty much everything i've earnt. I've got a £2000 overdraft to pay off which i need to do at £100 a month as it reduces year on year. I'm managing to cut that down at the required rate, and have payed out over £2K on a car (buying, insurance etc) and still owe the parents money for that. At the moment i'm still learning how much money i'll have left over at the end of the month and so how much i can afford for rent, so once ive got that sorted (and learned how to cut down my spending) i'll be in a better position to move out. Ideally i'd like to buy and so avoid paying someone elses mortgage for them!! Also living at home means i can get a deposit together whilst paying relatively little rent and so not get caught in the renting loop and not being able to save up for a deposit. In a years time i see myself in my own place no matter how small it is, at least it's mine and i'll be paying money towards it and not paying for someone else to own the place. Have the same car (with reducing costs due to insurance), and hopefully a chick. The last one on that list is something thats currently being worked on, although living at home makes that harder etc.
  18. my god i must be bored http://www.faceparty.com/tank_rider
  19. Matt, Yep, its a bit of a throwback to when we were learning together in the station carpark! and did that demo at halfords lol. They are indeed buzzbars. There one of the next things on my upgrade list, along with a stem with less rise, so don't worry they won't be being ridden for too much longer.
  20. Looking good Biggy, finally got my forks through today so should have another updated pic of mine in the next few days Your gonna have to come over and ride chicksands at some point, although with the state of the weather recently its gonna be a while before its as fun as it can be.

  22. Cheers for the comments guys, It rides pretty damn well actually, i need to tweak the gearing or get a few gears to give me a better top speed on 4X runs as i'm spinning out after the first 15m at the moment and having to pump the rest of the course. It's really good on northshore, really nicely balanced with quick steering. Ticcy, yeah it looks a bit ghetto at the moment but once the forks and wheels on it will look a hell of a lot better as it will be virtaully all white and black, will just need a new bar and stem then CBproductions, as Tic said those are my current forks, the dropoffs are on their way, there 2001 Z4's with a coil upgrade by the way, certainly old school, but still running well having never been serviced!!
  23. I've almost stopped riding trials now and have got into street/park/dirt jump/4X/northshore now riding my old get to uni bike which was made up from random bits i had in the garage. Now i'm riding it more and more i thought its time for it to get some nice new bits First off, a new rear wheel and disc, sun sungletrack rim on hope xc hub, and a 203mm hayes hfx9 next up is new forks and front wheel which are on their way, 05 maz dropoffs and sun singletrack on proII bolt through hub
  24. One of my housemates last year was pretty frickin good at poi, i have a vid of him doing some fire poi somewhere, i'll dig it up and post it in here. I've got some glow poi myself, but ive not done much so aren't too good.
