i personally prefer crt's for gaming and hense why i use a 17" Dell CRT for my work/gaming PC. For a tft, i'd always go with Iiyama, our uni has a whole bunch of them in the computer labs and they are seriously nice. One of my mates also bought one and the picture quality is excellent, its about the closest ive seen out of any tft to being the same as a crt.

I'd usually be inclined to agree with you about phoning them, however i think the phone experience vary massively depending on who you speak to. I've had orders and things sorted really quickly on some occaisions, whereas other times ive been put on hold for 5 mins only to be cut off etc whilst they "check stock" of an item im after. Also their postage prices are pretty high. I generally try to avoid dealing with them if i can now.

if the disc mount screws on then it most definately is not an american classic or a copy. The disc mount on the american classic hubs is part of the hub shell and is machines, not a seperate screw on part. If you really dont know anything about the part then take it to your local bike shop and ask them, or post up a pic of the hub so we can get a look and come up with some more informed suggestions!!!

remove wheel and QR, pull out axel end caps, pop off the bearing seals on the outside (you'll need a sharpe knife for this), if there is any evidence of damage to the bearings then pop them out (youll need to use a screwdriver and hammer) go to your local bearing supplier (find in yellow pages) and get a pair of replacements, press them in (use vice or similar), assemble rest of hub and off you go. It's not exactly rocket science. And in terms of american classic bearings being shite, its only the stupidly light one (micro 68 IIRC) that arent that good. I've had one of the non disc 120 sus hubs and a 140 disc for over a year each with no problems what so ever.

the thing to bear in mind when buying RAM for an AMD based system is the CL number. The lower the better, most value RAm uses CL3 timings, the OCZ premier RAM i use is CL2.5, and expensive stuff is CL2. If you plan to overclock at all (and if you get a vanice cored A64 i urge you to) then you will want to spend a little more and get something other than value RAM. heres a quick spec off ebuyer, slightly over budget and doesnt include a case or PSU which would be another £50-£70. You could drop down to a 6600GT graphics card and save a bit, and maybe a cheaper motherboard, but dont go too cheap else youll not be able to overclock much.
-
i'd recommend the following AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice Core ASUS A8N motherboard 1GB PC3200 OCZ RAM (2x512MB sticks) (probably value series, maybe premier at a push) NVidia 6800 or 6800LE 80GB (or more) seagate 7200.7 or better hard drive Tagan, Antec, Enermax, Thermaltake or similarly good quality 380Watt minimum PSU You should be able to get that little lot for around the price your looking for. Overclocking should be fairly simple, you'll find quite a few guides on the net. The Venice cores overclock very well, and the 6800 or 6800LE gfx cards can usually have most if not all the rendering pipelines and vertex shaders unlocked giving very good value for money for the performance.

if you get a beeping its one of two things, either your keyboard has a loose connection, in either the wiring or the mobo connector, or you CPU is overheating and its the high temperature alarm (depnding on the cpu and mobo you use the comp will either grind to a halt or switch off. try a different keyboard first if you have easy access to one (usb would be preferable to eliminate the mobo socket) then you will want to check the temps of your CPU, this is easily done with a touch test of the heatsink (assuming its correctly seated and is doing its job). It should be relatively cool, and you should be able to touch it for as long as you want (i.e it doesnt feel more than luke warm). Lastly you will need to install some software to monitor your CPU temps if your motherboard has a temp sensor and is compatable, before you do this post up what your computer spec is and who its built by.

dammit just typed out a long reply but lost it :@ are you looking for everything for a main tower i.e the case and everything, or are you going to re-use any bits from another rig? will you be confident to overclock and softmod any componants you get e.g processor and gfx card? these things greatly affect the speed of the rig you will end up with and the best componants to go for.

Really impressed with that, a really well done vid in my eyes. Good riding, varied moves and places, and all well put together with some funky music, damn good (Y)

am i the only person who thinks that any disc with a 205 rotor on a mod is going to be amazing. I have a 160 avid on my stock which is more than enough for me (and my forks!!!).

i use two monitors mainly for CAD etc and when doing my dissertations etc when you need two or more docs or programs open at the same time to work from. Tis also handy for playing films whilst doing work, kinda makes you feel like your not working only by the end of the day i find i get loads done. Something to do with my short attention span otherwise i think.

The square socket is a DVI socket for use with digital tft monitors. However as mentioned you can purchase pretty cheaply a converter that allows the use a second analog monitor whether it be tft or crt. I have run dual monitors on several ati graphics cards, it really is simple. You set the dual monitor function up in the settings tab of the properties of the desktop. If you want the second display to be an extension of the other, then check the extend windows onto this monitor setting when you have selected screen 2.

Ill be back up in luf by around mid september. I'd be up for a bit of filming if she wants, let me know :shifty: (my e-mail address is in my contact card)

Well I'm average height, usually horny :shifty: and am partial to a bit of futurama or the simpsons. How true is that Tic!!!!

Trials-forum officially recognises Bigman as the bext person to test componants (especially front discs and forks) for strength.

I knew that Danny, however i would very much doubt it would be worth pairing up an old thoroughbred b cored CPU with more than a gig of RAM, the processor wont be able to handle any program that would demand all that RAM.
-
as everyone else has said, go for PC3200 RAM, as it will run at the lower speed without any problems and is often these days cheaper!!! I highly doubt that you will need more than 1Gb of RAM unless you do loads of photo manipulation on massive files or video editing, and the sempron isnt really up to either of these. I would recommend getting 2x512Mb sticks as they are usually cheapest option.

32 hour lessons, passed 1st time with 2 minors :) That was with no driving in between lessons.

Awesome short vid there guys, nice riding and snappy editing, tres cool :) Whats that inspired made of Matt? Alu or Steel?

I used to have the same problem, i think its all about letting your inhabitions go, and having more confidence. I used to need to get absolutely trashed to dance and have a really good night, however in the last year i've found myself drinking less on nights out and still managing to enjoy them just as much, but with less of the hangover the next day.

Smacking the hell out of each other for fun isnt exaclty my idea of a good, time, and watching it doesnt float my boat either. Oh well if they enjoy getting a kicking regularly then who am i to complain.
-
its not compatability thats the problem, its the fact that it will take ages to put large files onto it. I would look to get a PCMCIA card that is either USB 2, or firewire to make using the external hard drive bareable. In terms of using your hard drive for virtual memory, i would say go for a max of 1GB virtual memory, as your laptop will have a 5400rpm hard drive in it, and therefore would be relatively slow.

I've heard rumours that longhorn will be 64-bit only and therefore will only work with A64 and the intel 64-bit chip when they finally bring it out. At present they are supposidly trying to close any security holes in it, although we know how good microsoft are at doing that usually, lets hope all this extra development time results in a decently working version that doesnt need a service pack after a month!!!!

One of my old housemates got one a couple of months back when he visited america, amazing graphics for a handheld. However after about 2 weeks the power switch snapped or disconnected inside rendering it useless. We tried to remove the covers but couldnt get them off easily and decided not to force them too much. He is now waiting for them to be released in England so he can get it repaired.
