Seriously Pete, if you have got this kit, please post a few benches. I've just ordered my new CPU (AMD Opteron 146) which should overclock like a beast, somewhere in the region of an FX-57 with a little luck, so want to see how they compare. -
had forgotten about this!! have just put it back on my fileserver, should get me back on top of number of units completed as its on 24/7. I stopped using it on my main pc as its overclocked and isnt completely 100% stable forever and pushes its cooling to the limit.

hmm, sounds like something to try at our christmas bbq were having next weekend :P My simple thing is for hot bacon baguettes. Take part baked baguette and cook as instructions, fry up 6 rashers of bacon and lob inside with a liberal helping of butter. skip into the sunset eating the tastiest lunch ever :D

metal skewer + microwave = error message use a cocktail stick for the love of god, unless you like blowing up microwaves of course.

Thats pretty damn impressive. Gotta be someone who does light shows etc, for concerts and stuff. Nice little showcase for what they can do!!

I'd be really interested to see how a set of forks could be designed using a custom layed up shape, such as an oval or something biased towards making them laterally stiffer. That should allow them to be lighter, yet retain the same strength.
-
I think the main problems with CF forks are the interfaces between the legs and the crown, and the legs and the dropouts. I overheard Dave Butler saying that he had to re-bond Danny's forks a while back as the glue had died. Also due to the flex CF allows, there is a massive stress riser where the CF meets with the alu or magnesium crowns increasing the chance of crack propogation and delamination. Crack propogation isnt too bad a problem in CF as it can develop minute cracks without any real degredation in mechanical properties, it is delamination that causes problems, that is where the layers peel away from each other due to poor bonding or high stresses/bending which the plastic adhesive can't handle and so it cracks/shatter between the CF laminates. With a redisign of the crown area a CF fork could be made to be as durable and good as a regular alu fork, but obviously with less weight.

I'm currently in a cast having had Si sort the ligaments in my ankle out. I hadn't done anything major to it recently but had ruptured one of them a few years back playing football and they'd healed in the wrong place giving my ankle far too much play. 3 weeks in a cast left (have been in it for one already) as there was a slight fracture when he was sorting it out. Should be out of it and back on my feet by crimbo, then hopefully riding by feb at the latest :)

Please tell me thats going to be fixed in the production version. Part of the appeal of a hope is that it can be fully serviced with no tools. If a bush needs replacing every time you take the bloody thing apart its going to be a right pain in the arse!!

Yeah, mine didn't fully unlock, got 16x5 out of it though, and it runs perfectly at 380MHz core, 900MHz mem I thought the 160GB drive i got in the summer would keep me sorted for a while, but its now full, as i like to have quite a lot of films etc ready to watch. -

you got those benchies yet Pete? As I'm interested to see how my system compares to such a kick ass setup. Also, what gfx card are you using with it? if its for gaming then its gotta be something pretty good. I'm still reveling in the performance of my unlocked and overclocked 6800LE. Amazing performance for the price  -
the human body mutated to produce this in the first place, so its only natural for the human body to come up with a natural cure at some point. It's like the tribe in Africa who all have HIV, yet none of them ever get AIDS, their body somehow suppresses it.

the short answer: yes the long answer: yes mine have saved my life or some severe injuries a couple of times so i never ride trials without one. i find that wearing one sets you apart fom the chavs just being twats and actually stops you getting as much hassle. You look like you are doing something purposeful and not just loitering on a silly looking bike.

I'm guessing that that test was using a non overclocked FX-57, as is usually done. They usually hit 3GHz on stock cooling which would more than likely give it a nice big boost over anything a dothan could achieve. Never the less, they are extremely good value cpu's for the money, and can get some pretty damn good results if you can get them to overclock well (I've read many a story about finding fsb limits of mobo's etc) -

Looks like a nice setup, what sort of superpie time are you getting with that? You say it's faster than an FX-57, but to be perfectly honest it won't perform better due to its outdated pentium 3 architecture. Have you got any plans for any better cooling? I believe someone has managed to get an XP-120 to fit theirs. Have you got a screenie of it in CPU-Z? Oh and its not an athlon 64 that's got to 6GHz, it was a P4 using liquid Nitrogen cooling. Basically in a completely non susatinable running environment, i.e they couldn't run it for more than about 5 mins, just enough time for a few benchmarks etc. My rig is starting to show its age now in the latest games, but its still plenty good enough for most of what i use it for (a bit of gaming and CAD/CAE along with everyday office and internet usage). I unfortunately don't have the money for anything new yet :turned: it will have to wait until i finish uni and get a job in the summer. -
Quality vid there stephen, really enjoyed it. Had a nice mix of natty and street and very varied moves. Matts getting far too good at this spinny shit!!!!

Absolutely awesome vid, have watched it about 10 times already, i love your style, and the editing is awesome too. One of the best vids of the year.

building on what college boy said, the titan system on overclockers looks damn good, and is a tiny bit cheaper than the spec i posted (as that needs a case including in the price too) although the graphics card is a lot less powerful, and the motherboard and psu arent as good, it does have a slightly larger hd though.
-
To be honest the spec of that pc is pretty shocking for the money. Heres a quick spec, it doesnt include a case as you will probably have ideas as to how you want it to look. That should be pretty balanced and perform pretty damn well in most games
-
whats your budget? and ill knock up a quick spec that i would recommend. Oh and btw, while that PSU is pretty damn good, and provides nice consistant power, it is a little on the loud side, i would recommend going for one of the tagan easycon ones that has a modular design whereby you can remove the cables you dont need.

Jesus guys, you moan when a product is released and its not fully sorted, yet if something is delayed due to problems that the company wants to get sorted before going to market then you slag them off too. Hope are a relatively small company and havent got hundreds of engineers that they can pull off other projects to get a certain product out the door on time. Cut the some slack!! I guess waynio was talking about a proven technology rather than a proven hub design, although the whole pawl and ratchet system does have its flaws and problems. Anyhoo, i'm looking forward to seeing the insides of the new echo and hope hubs when they are both available, will be interesting to see how their approaches compare and contrast. and btw engineering is a whole world away from a mechanic. Engineers investigate, develop and design products (including cars) which mechanics then maintain.
-
Hey Monkey, going by your revised max spend, this is what i recommend. You will still have to add a case, but i'll leave that down to your preferance (you should have at least £30-60 to spend on it so should be able to get a prety damn good one as you don't need it to have a psu in it, as i specced one of those already) Danny you know you want the mobile in my media pc (Y)

overclocking is the art of running componants faster than standard. It usually makes any warranties invalid, and can cause problems unless componants are correctly cooled. For instance, my CPU (AMD athlon XP mobile 2500+) has a default clock speed of 1.8GHz, however with some very good cooling i have it running at 2.5GHz and still keeping it well within normal operating temperatures. The degree to which you can overclock processors usually is dependant on what motherboard you have and what this allows you to control, as for large overclocks it is necessary to feed componants raised voltages to allow them to perform.
