I'm at uni at the moment, but have got a new mobo and gfx card, and now have my cpu running at the same speed as an FX-57 Superpie time under 30 secs, and a new 7800gt gets me some better 3dmark scores too will run this test again and post up the results etc.

Cycology Comp This Sunday! 12th Feb!

READ THE RULES -
it doesn't make as big a difference as when hard drives were comparatively slow, but due to everyone being used to faster computers these days, it does still make a noticeable difference. It's recommended that you defrag about once a week to keep everything ship shape and in order, it's doing small things like that regularly that keeps you from having to format every 6 months.

Another vote for Loughborough. The engineering courses are excellent here, and I've got to say the time I've spent here so far have been the best three years of my life. Oh and if/when you come up for an open day, if you want any more detailed tour of anywhere, let me know and ill should be able to give you one. The only place i don't have access to is halls as i'm living off campus.

Unlucky dude. Added to the stolen bikes thread.

The first thing to try is to re-seat all the cables connected to the hard drive, the IDE/SATA data cable at both ends, and the power connector into the drive. If this doesn't work and it's still within warranty then get on the phone to dell as it sounds like your hard drive has ceased to function correctly.

Hense me saying X850XT's. Decided today that it's about time to get the most out of this cpu, so will be going PCI-E in the next week, new mobo and 7800gt should be mine soon

Use the contact link at the top and get him to e-mail tom or danny. -
nah there arent unfortunately, its something to do with some of the componants that are better quality/faster on the dfi etc boards, so nothing can really be done about it. As for your score in 3dmark05, have you got a compare? as thats faster than a pair of X850XT's in crossfire together
-
yeah i've tried flashing the bios, the board just isnt capable of anything more than 295MHz fsb, most nf3 chipsets are the same, there arent many that go any higher, the dfi lanparty being one of the exceptions, might have to see about getting me one of them
-
Meh, not bad for a P4 I'm just pissed off my nf3 based motherboard won't get to 330MHz fsb, else my opteron 144 (has hit 3 GHz stable in an nf4 board) would really kick that time into touch, should be good for sub 30 secs. As it is, it still beats it by a clear couple of seconds even at 2.66GHz , thats with my pc in day to day spec, none of this stripped out windows benchmark only shite. I've got it down to 33secs in the past, on a fresh windows install, i want to get an nf4 based motherboard, but that would need a new graphics card as my current ones agp and i cant afford that at the moment. Temps are at 33-35 idle and 39 tops under sustained load, and its fully stable under torture test. Quick spec: AMD opteron 144 socket 939, XP120 with 120mm akasa amber fan auto throttled to 775rpm by speedfan, 1GB crucial ballistix PC4000 RAM, Epox 9nda3+ mobo, 6800LE, eneram liberty 400W psu, seagate 7200.7 160GB HD, NEC 16x DVD Burner. Heres a cropped screenie as the original pic is huge. [attachmentid=2642] Oh and before anyone says, whats the point, i'm doing a mechanical engineering degree and use a lot of CAD/CAM applications which take time to iterate solutions so i need a rapid pc to solve them in a reasonable amount of time. And Pete, 11.5K in 3dmark03 is well on the low side for a stock X850XTPE let alone an overclocked one!! My overclocked and unlocked 6800LE got 11K with my old athlon XP-m chip!! Compare link

If you new and wanting to watch a rider who has very good technique etc, i'd say go for watching ben slinger vids, he started young, so had to develope good technique to overcome being physically small. Now he's got older and developd physically he's still got really good technique but with strength too.
-
I'd say the 9800 too, it may be the se version, but if its got a 128bit mem bus, then its performance will eclipse that of the 6200 which has only got a 64 bit mem bus. Also you should be able to overclock the 9800 a bit to gain some extra performance, it's nice and simple with atitool and a set of cracked drivers from http://www.techpowerup.com/softmod/downloads.php.

Welcome, and good to hear trials is appealing to people of all ages As for tiders in Dubai, i believe the member who goes by the name of Mr Tweek is from dubai, might be worth giving him a shout, over PM. As for trials, so long as your enjoying what you do it doesn't matter!! Thats the beauty, most people can't do anything remotely like a trials rider and it's always a great feeling to see people impressed with what you can do.

What program are you currently trying to rip them with? I use media player, and fiddle with the settings so it gives me unlicenced mp3's. I've not got any copy protected cd's though. Copy protection on cd's really bugs me, I can see why companies do it, but it is totally legal to make backups of music that you own, and rip it for listening on a pc or mp3 player

You'll probably get more help if you explain what you mean by textures etc.

Officially, you still have to have a tv license (im in a shared house so its less than £20 each). I'd say it's not worth the risk of a £2k fine for not having one. The people they send round to look round your house, are hardly going to be stupid anyway, they will know what a tv card for a pc is and know what you should have a licence with one, so the risk is only really the same as having a normal tv without a license.

For a start you can't just copy a design, or even just make a couple of tiny changes. Secondly, unless you know what your doing with stressess etc, then please leave the boosters to the experts. It's easy to make a stiff booster, its another thing to make one that is a reasonable weight with it. I know Steve isn't making a fortune from each booster he sells, the majority of the price (something around 75% probably) is made up by the manufacturing costs. I know for a fact that of all the boosters I've used or seen, Steve's are the best quality, both in tems of design and manufacturing. Also if you're going to be setting up in competition with Steve, I highly doubt he is going to give you a hand in designing a product, that just wouldn't be good business!! Oh and depending on what degree your d&t teacher did, he may not have any more knowledge on the subject of stresses than you do! It looks like your after making a quick buck, but without caring about how you do it or what your customers get, please please please stop right now before you give yourself a bad name and annoy people.

OK guys enough, It's wrong, It's illegal, it shouldn't be discussed on here, unless of course you own the content on dvd already. Sorry

I'd always say AMD in the current crop of CPU's especially if your comparing them with a celeron. The cripplingly small amount of cache on the celerons means they really suffer with most applications. Also dependant on what model they will be based on the prescott core which is well known for being pretty damn hot, meaning cooling etc will have to work harder and generally be noisier. I'd still recommend you try and get a budget socket 939 setup if you can, if you really cant stretch to it then i'd definately go with the sempron.

There are advantages to either obviously. I have a digital tv card in my media pc, which is really handy as i use it as a video recorder if im going to miss anything i want to watch. The one i have has a reasonable remote, and you hook it up to the on/off button on your pc so you can use the remote to turn on the pc (kinda handy for lazy mornings in bed ) The disadvantage being the startup time of a pc (~45 secs -> 2 mins), compared to a normal digi box (5 secs max!). The set top box route is probably better if your going to mainly use it for watching tv on, and are gonna have it primaroly hooked up to a normal tv, and on the rare occaision you want to record something you feed it into your tv. I like the pci card route as i only have a pc in my bedroom (no normal tv), so i can do everything throught it, stream music, videos and access the net as well as watch tv on it rather than having two seperate screens (small room, therefore low on space). The card i have is a compro dvb-t200 i think, which cost around £50 in october, so should have come down in price by now. I'd recommend you have a look around the reviews for the latest cards, as the software that comes with many is a bit iffy, and its quite a lot of faffing around to get them working with anything other than the bundled software or windows MCE (assuming it passed for MCE use). I use the bundled software as it seems to work pretty well (i did select this card due to it having reasonable reviews of the software). Anyhoo, there's my 2p to start with, any more specific questions and ill be happy to help
