At the risk of sounding both old and elitist - horror is best when read since it's more psychological than visual except for cheap shocks and unexpected s**t jumpin' out at you .

Off to a good start with your existing levers and arms ,and yeah a linear cable like Odyssey's linear slick in a colour of your choice would be plenty fine , but can require a proper cable cutter for neat snip . Ali C would recommend Shimano's SP51 (gear) outer which I'm keen to try out too ,but it's fiendishly difficult to find . As to pads , it's really personal prefference but I'm quite happy with standard clear generic Barradine / Trialtech type cheapo pads on my unground rear . Booster ? Can't hurt , but may not be necessary at all .If you can't see the stays visibly flexing when applying the brake hard , then no need . Purists will tell you that the XTR arms'parralel push pivots will develop play as they're designed for deceleration ,whereas trials puts rearwards stress through 'em too , but you're on a budget and they're perfectly good arms that look pretty damned nice too . ( Can't bring myself to use the words "bling" or "pimp") Hardware selection aside , it's all about careful setup / alignment - and give 'em time to bed in, I've had buddies reject Vees entirely based on a few rides whilst the pads were still bedding in .

And even then he felt the need to pedal down it !

Looks good especially the headset and killer selection of mid 80's electro records .Edit: Wild shot in the dark - you're in the USA or the bike was bought there?

Props to Red Bull for puttin' this and similar events on and there was some pretty good riding , but I had to stop watching because they're all just so Godamned fashionable . About a month ago some idiot on a fixie rode into my back wheel pretty hard and rode off angrily . Nice job dumbass , you could have taco'd my Chris :king: wheel with your crappy Taiwanese douchebike' cause you can't control your momentarily trendy fashion accessory . I know , hatred among bikers is kinda childish , but that's the whole point- he's no biker , just some fella trying to hit on scene chicks by buying into the latest fad .

Of those two I'd go for the Avid , but don't discount Shimano's excellent LX and XT's .

I would suggest you consult with Tarty for a service before you are obliged to consult a dentist for orthodontologic reconstruction . EDIT: to avoid any suggestion of undue bias; I've never used Tarty myself , but know that they established their reputation in the early days with wheelbuilds / service .

I quit working in prisons about 2 years ago 'cause it was hard to switch off when I came home .By now I've been working exclusively nights for the best part of a decade so I can honestly say I haven't done a day's work in years! Now I'm a concierge / night manager at a 140 room hotel .23:00 'till 07:00, so leaves my days free to ride and do as I damned well please and I get to meet a variety of interesting people from around the world. Who ordered the champagne and hookers ?

Anyone That Is Into Street Trial Bikes?
Endohopper replied to Dante's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
I can tell you from bitter personal experience that just by choosing to ride trials in Holland , this fella now bring the total number of riders here to a whopping 30-35 ish . Mr.Dante , as I suggested on the (laughably underpopulated) NL forum ,don't discount 26" streetbikes ,as parts are more readily available here and you could configure a bike for street or perhaps later pure trials , retaining largely the same components . Whereabouts are you ? If you're ever around Den Haag it would be great to meet a fellow rider ! -
Lovely, thanks for the effort. That's a whole lotta IRC El Gato and Michelin Hot S's !
-
Congratulations ! Tioz - what country are you in ?
-
Giro's excellent Hex is well priced , comfortable and offers good protection to the back of the head too . Plenty of coolin' vents will keep you cool during Summer trials sessions , love mine .

I likes me some simple skate shoes , especially Etnies for my platform pedals .

Unanticipated easily overlooked factor outta leftfield : the outer cable and / or noodle exerting force trying to do the whole path of least resistance vibe to the last cable stop on your frame . Try bending and shaping the last section of outer cable untill it's a bit more malleable and naturally follows the line from stop to beginning of noodle . A test to ensure no interference is to just loosely put outer cable and noodle in place without inner cable and see if it forces the brake arm's hinge up or downwards . Now the hinge can't tell you about lateral deviation , only up / down , but if you've bent and shaped the outer cable correctly , the end of the noodle should now point directly at the other arm's pinch bolt . No part of the noodle should be touching the , um ... hinged gate area except where barb hooks into the gate's opening . Phew , lengthy - possibly confusing explanations , y' get me ? Make the cable outer a touch shorter / longer until the noodle just rests naturally without being under any pressure from the cable outer and you can even bend the noodle itself for super fine adjustment . Yeah , I'm kinda nerdy ' bout perfect V setup . Failing that - Paging Dr. Ali ...

Superb composure Leon ! Recent glorious weather and me doin' some death defying monster drops:

Brake performance with the Ronnie on the rear is superb for me so far . That's with generic clear V pads chewing on a medium grind , resulting in reliable hold and pretty good bite , but then I like the initial bite kinda soft to allow manuals . These pads are pretty hard so I would imagine with any kind of proper trials pad you're lookin' at killer brake power . I built this up to be my ultimate trials rear wheel : ...but by the sounds of it , I'm gonna have to relegate it to XC duty if I can't get a good brake on it . By the way ,I wasn't replacing the Ronnie out of dissatisfaction , just wanted a better hub and lighter rim / spokes .
-
lol indeed if the sight of such iconic bikes inspires such pleasant memories that you audibly laugh . You , uh ...you spelled your own username incorrectly , or do you literally aurally perceive to assist ?
-
Very satisfied with my rear Ronnie , the drilled variant . Absurdly strong , tall braking surface that holds my medium grind very well and a good lookin' black lustre , overall feels really stiff and reliable at a reasonable weight . Hmmm , I just built a back wheel for my second bike with one of these and haven't ridden it yet.I selected it primarily for it's low weight and was hoping to try runnin' it without a grind at first ( mainly street ) and escalate to a light / medium grind if necessary .Just read your other thread too I'm gonna regret building this aren't I ?

I've done this to 2 frames now without ill effect , but balked at trying it on the carbon top tube of my Koxx for obvious reasons ! I guess this differs per frame , my Base TA26 has pretty solid tube thickness ( yay , cheap Taiwanese frames ! )and the end result is pretty neat lookin'. As said , just ensure that the holes have smooth edges and are at carefully chosen sites , I actually did mine coming in / emerging at an angle to suit the natural curvature of the cable . Note : brake cable , not hydraulic hose - I can imagine pretty serious complications with fittin' olives . Have fun actually fishing the damned thing out of tube at the far end ! Protip : surgical forceps and patience .

Onza Comp Custom Spec From Tarty - Anybody Got One?
Endohopper replied to Chris-26's topic in Trials Chat
Nowt wrong with the Tartyboys making a (probably modest) profit , given their contributions to the scene and killer service . With regards to the Comp's spec: EDIT: This seems to be a pretty pro Tarty post, to avoid any suggestion of endorsement - I've never used 'em myself in favour of a German retailer . -
XTR are all kinds of awesome for XC but don't forget that trials also stresses brakes backwards as well as forwards , which can wear out the pivots in XTR's parallel push linkage . Often a simpler brake arm will perform and feel just fine , notably Avid's SD series or Shimano Deore or LX / XT .
-
Hmmm . The ideal starting point would be to select your intended style - street , natural , TGS , competition etc and then within that subdiscipline enquire as to what is popular in terms of frame length / geometry , gearing and that all important stem / handlebar combo. It can be relly helpful ( and fun ! ) to attend a group ride and try out several variants of your chosen type , noting the difference in feel , where the balnce point is and so on . Be sure to checvk out our bike pics thread to get n idea of what the cool kids are rolling on . A world of opportunity lies before you !
-
Oh my - That was you ! I remember thinking how beautiful that was when you posted it aeons ago , Christ do you have good taste in bikes ! Testimony to the longevity of Kings too that one has survived trials usage all these years intact . Now to whom did this : ...piece of awesomeness belong ?

The fact that he ascribes his achievement to Jesus and proselytizes at every opportunity kinda diminishes his resilience . He's an awesome human , who endured terrible hardship , why pass off responsibility for that to a fictional deity when it's his own exemplary fortitude that is literally miraculous . Yeah , I get it : humility and meekness but still . This is evidence of human awesomeness not a divine plan . Bonus comedy reply : Ban me , devalidate me , I care not . Having a lot of experience with victim support , coercion of any sort however well presented enrages me . All the more manipulative that his seminars are carefully scripted in such a way as to induce sympathy and inspiration and then slowly introduce words like " thankful" ( guess to whom ? ) and only once emotionally hooked does the listener get reeled into the finale : joining him in prayer . Sorry to sound like an ****hole but this hidden agenda , coercive act is effectively emotional hostage taking . Is it not enough that he's simply an incredibly courageous human ?

I aim for that Felix Mucke appearance of effortlessness but I'm usually just bouncing around awkwardly trying to link poorly executed moves with wildly uncontrollable manuals .
