this is a quote out of a mag we have on the "odd job board at work" which is a board full of mag cut-outs, posters, pictures: Martyn's thoughts: For comps i think sections will get bigger and more gnarly. As for general trials - i rekon we will see more individual styles, with the sport becoming faster and smoother. Chris's predictions: I can see trials being less of the stop 'n' hop stuff, with sections being more suited to riders who can roll easily. As Martyn says, the emphasis will shift to speed and fluidity. i do accept that i do feel 26" trials is abit orientated around 20", maybe its because im a bit "older" in the over 23's category. haha Wayne.

iv found something AWESOME to put up....... from an article in MBUK a good 5/6 years ago, when the contact vid and stuff was about. il write it up and post it in here at dinner time. Wayne.

dont you just ha....!!! PERFECT! nail on the head with hammer. braintree trials you will learn to respect others ideas and how others choose to ride their bike, for you to critisize someone far superior of you (Chriss Akrigg) i think is absolutly appauling, ok yes that may be your opinion, but Chris has ridden for at least 15years. You have really put written something that you (ok you may think it is ok to do) think is ok to do, but havent re-read it. Wayne.

just to let you all know i am working very closely with "Trial Magazine" with a chap called John Hulme who is an exceptional bloke, who is trying his best to get more and more bike trials featured in the "Trial Mag" If you want "more" trials specific it may be worth keeping your eye out for that mag next year too. subscriptions are only £25.00 for 12months delivered to your door, thats 6 issues. and has motorbike stuff in too, always good to keep in contact with the motorbike side which our sport has developed on and from. there will be some exciting reading in that over the next couple of issues too!!!!!! Wayne.

i totally agree ben. the comments written were pretty kamikaze BUT at the end of the day, would you say Chris Akrigg is MR TRIALS? i would say not, chris has exploited ALL aspects of MTB, could anyone and everyone ride brakeless trials? (honestly!) in the sense of the release of this podcast chris is doing i really think not! No one would have the balls, but it has taken out the hop in his trials riding not like there was much in it to start with BUT the evolution of trials on a 26" bike has become more "hoppy" alot of backwheel moves which are VERY impressive. (im trying to get over the point of view that alot of other people would be thinking about trials) MTB Trials has originated from a 26" MTB been modified, general MTB'in has/should still be at the heart of trials, for example "mixing" the 20" and 26" classes at a world champs round? INCORRECT! should not be done, sections should be set for 20 and 26 totally seperate after all they are totally different bikes. In 2005 at the world round @ Addingham the sections were specifically 20 and 26! 20 with big jumps and gaps and very "backwheel" orientated, 26 very rolly and things to pedal at, not your average 12ft sidehop to 13ft drop gap to extreme precision on the back wheel to get to the perfect spot to take off to sidehop up over a crocodile pit. and this i think is WHAT trials has lost. I went to Danny B's a few weeks ago, and he was awesome at sidehopping something danny will agree on has not been his strong point in the past, but he could sidehop huge, and he told me that he practised them as competitions were becoming more and more orientated around them, and he is correct. what happened to the good old, rolling run and bunnyhop at a big girth rock! do you see where trials of today is totally seperated from MTB'in because it is so hoppy??? this is not the fault of anyone it is just trials taking its evolution, next month the next big move might be bunnyhopping to manual across 13ft gaps? or rolling drop offs! or even 180 bunnyhop gaps. Who knows trials is weird, but at the same time it is VERY very wonderful! Wayne.

its nice to hear and people view their opinions. i personally was expecting to come back to this theread and possibly world war 3 have started. some interesting comments and something for sure that can go forward and MBUK will probably look into read and possibly work on. as some have said Ali included very positive and thoughtful posts. it does need reviews and such things on trials stuff. The photoshoot thing i will have a word with Martyn about BUT as an example. i think the "Christmas Leeds Ride" is something worth capturing? WHY? because people are gathering for a ride that has happened for the last few years, bad weather and the all (yet it doesnt stop the rider unite!) Also i do agree the DJ memorial ride, needs more "coverage" someone to be there to do a full blown write up on. BUT what we have to remember is the more positive comments and information we can supply the mag with the better. The Akrigg thread where all the critisism is? WHY would MBUK want to put more trials in? after reading some of the posts in there? Keep it positive keep putting answers to the questions, each to their own, peoples views and opinions can be aired in here. most should be positive as its positive thinking we are looking for to try and get more publicity for trials Cheers Wayne.

Just thought i would ask people questions and their opinions on the following: Does anyone who rides trials read MORE than just the trials section? What do you expect to see in the mag? Who do you expect to see in the mag? and WHY? I wont put a long list, it will get boring. I personally feel that people have a go at the mag without any genuine reason apart from "not seeing enough" trials in there. I read Rob Warner's column just like marts every month, and this months is really really kool, i feel the problem with any disipline (not just trials) is that the "new" people in the sport are just not ambassadors like Martyn (Trials), Rob Warner (DH), Chris Smith (Freeride) etc. Maybe this is why the mag doesnt include more no named people? Quite a few years ago they used to do articles on "up and coming stars" that has dropped off i think because the magazine applies to millions of people and of those millions id guess that (of people who buy the mag) LESS than 10% are Trials riders? The magazine needs to fullfil the needs of ALL types of riding, so if one article has not enough DH or XC in them customers may not subscribe to the magazine next year, or wont buy the next issue? Whats your thoughts????? Cheers. Wayne.

i had a hipperty hop on an atomz the other day at the tarty boys store and it had a smooth rim and atomz pads and they were awesome!!! BUT it would be a totally different story in the wet. its as if the pad was nice and sticky. Wayne

Ben i agree with what your saying, but put this into perspective. (dont want to cause an arguement or owt) Who out of the BIG street riders has a story behind what they do????? if you look at the articles martyn does and such forth, they have a subtle story behind them. Look at the shoot in the dark, now would tunni or damon do a 13ft drop gap in the pitch black? if so then yes i feel they would deserve to have a photo shoot. just generally street ripping it up doing big gaps and sidehops is something that the mag is not looking for. they are looking for "stories" and scenic stuff. i do agree more people should get publicity, but you have to go out of your way to get it, trust me! iv not had half as much stuff as i could have in a mag but there is a possibility that i could get loads with what i do next year. you have to have an idea and a story behind an article. the Sun will not write an article on a trials rider unless there is something unique about it? a bit like Tunnis thing on that BBC1 program? they linked it in quite funny with posting letter and was a good laugh and the short while it was on the poeple watching would have been amazed. The chain is coloured!!!! chris has been spraying bikes like this for years now, every so often he will have a bike that is all one colour, he doesnt care, he IS unique, that is a fact. look at the "slopestyle" bit in MBUK, about racing on a glacier? just like martyn ashton he is not "JUST" trials. Iv worked with martyn on the trials column for a good 18-24 months now, and im coming to grips with why MBUK is as it is Wayne.

there try-all riser bars. he got them off me. if its the 1's in MBUK which are sprayed a lime colour they are Try-All. Wayne.

Join and try both YMSA = UCI (only allowed the tyres to touch obstacles) Tyke Trial = BIU (can touch any part of the bike on obstacles) i think YMSA will restart early next year, tykes have one more round left next weekend at addingham and will restart in Feb time Wayne.

Just thought i would let people know, there is a 4 page article on myself in "Trial" magazine. it has just been released and is its 1 year anniversary edition. obviously it also has motorbike stuff in, i always find it good to have a read into the motor side of our sport too. Worth subscribing to for only £24/25 a year. good to have a magazine that is trials specific and i will be working close with the editor for the next year or 2 (hopefully longer) to hopefully get more and more trials into the magazine. Wayne. PS thanks to John Hulme for the interview and publicity. he's a star man.

LMAO!!!! Sorry ash you made me laugh cus you made it sound like you were a "Tom Tom" GPS!!!! "Over the twig, turn right, 2nd left after 20 yards" Sorry, it just amused me. Wayne.

i was having a conversation with someone the other day about the following: trials goes through stages, 1 minute its drop gaps, next minute its tap, the next its bunnyhops and it just revolves around and around. and as others have said, it gets bigger and bigger. it will come to a stage where people will struggle to go "any" bigger as there is limits to "just" what you can do. like a car, if a production model does 100bhp, and you tune it to 180 its hard to make it 1k bhp without changing EVERYTHING on it and still the aerodynamics etc wouldnt be correct etc? like to go bigger you would need more flexible limbs etc, see who can be the 1st to have an operation that involved making your body more flexible to withstand more impact Wayne.

DAMN!!!! im not special enough to have my own mechanic. altho i prefer to use the big mallet every now and again!!!! lol i take it the young man who started this topic is probably between 12-16????? fair play to him, to him he has met someone "famous" its just the same at aire valley, alot of the young lads come in, Akrigg fixes their bikes and there stoked. All you got to do is think of it this way, who do you look upto? then just imagine meeting them? you'd be stoked. i know that id like to meet Lee Evans and Peter Kay would be a right laugh! suppose you just have to be in the right place at the right time. Wayne.

i think as it evolves and gets better and better we may find that other trials moves become more noticed. so instead of doing the biggest drop or leaping the biggest gap other moves/styles of riding will come more into play. competition scene will always be about the difficulty in a technical and height ability. street/natural everyday rides/videos etc would be kool to see more angles, different views, anyone and everyone who does trials does it for a different reason therefore their view on how they ride is displayed in their riding attitude and technique. Just my 1p view. Wayne. maybe more street comps? it needs a company like redbull to go shit or bust with it like they did with the bike battle maybe???
-
no probs. it might be a week or so. im trying to work out the next best time for a practise, would you be up for street? or you more natural? there is a kool place up in haworth we could go to where its flood lit and has some nice challenging rocks for the younger lads? Wayne.
-
yes get well soon young man. he is one of the up and coming stars, he has performed with marc vinco at the great yorkshire bike show and as barbara has said he lives to ride his bike, even at 9 years old. il try speak to his dad at some point barbara i had a contact phone number for him from when i fit the maguras on his bike through the shop, if not il call you tomorrow for his contact details. Wayne.
