You may know that i installed ubuntu linux on an old laptop and i'm thinking about doing the same on this machine, my schoolwork laptop. The problem i've got is that all of my D+T project is in MS Publisher and Open Office doesnt support the .pub files. Are there any programs that are similar to Publisher for linux? Cheers

You'll need the Airport Express card (£49) and a wireless access point like Tom said. I'm still keen to get one, just need to get the money together now... :S

For wifi surely you can just set up an adhoc connection like you can with PCs. If i cant do that then i wont bother with the airport card (£50 extra) :blink:

The HDD player is the novatech one. I've never used the CD so i dont know about the compatability... My house has a wired lan at the moment so i was reallly asking about having the Mac plugged in with the ethernet port and using the wirless between that and the laptop. I'm going to be using my MS Wireless Desktop with it so i should have right click. Cheers for the help guys!

I'm thinking about getting myself one of the new Mac Minis. The one i'll be going for is the 1.25ghz one with an upgraded 80gb hdd and the airport wirless upgrade. Basically i'm looking for other peoples experiences with OSX: I've got a Centrino based laptop, how easy will it be to have the Mac wired into my lan and use an ad hoc wireless connection to get the net on my laptop? I've also got a 20gb plug and play (in xp, anyway) mp3 player. Will i be able to use this as a portable hard drive like i can on my laptop (without any software) Are there any good bittorent clients for osx? Think thats about it for the moment... You'll be able to get a PCI firewire card (plugs into one of the white expansion slots inside your computer) from any PC-World or similar... That will give you a couple of firewire ports for no more than about £20 (i'd imagine)
