  1. with you on that. apart from those of us who stick to leeson or the new iolobikes...
  2. arse - i'm not just realised i've got a kayak competition that weekend...
  3. yes logs, rocks, mud, grass, old people, dogs.... sorry scrap those last two for health and safety reasons... but yes they all count so long as its an urban area. speaking to our sponsors it looks like we're going to have some nice shiny bits up for grabs, all will be revealed real soon...
  4. *looks forward to the day where everyone has the same bike as mat* no one has the same set up as me because no one else is silly enough to run dx32's front and rear and have double walls on a monty xlite...
  5. were you the guy who i told to get clive to build you a mod and you said yeah but fred might not like that... good to ride with you mate, come oop north again soon...
  6. i'm with you on this one, nothing inspires me to ride like chainspotting...
  7. that kid was on lucozade or something. i did feed him some haribo at one point and his dad and i had a laugh about him being up the wall high on e numbers til 4 in the morning... his enthusiasm just drove me on even more, watching him ride was inspiring. someone did coment that the best thing about thatyoung lad was that he truely believed he could do it all. he wanted to ride straight off a foot high drop and his dad was like 'well you could ride off it but you might crash' and he was like 'yeah cool' the youngsters really impress me, then depress me when i realise their kicking my arse (sam) later
  8. surely you could just log onto biketrialuk and see when theres no events on. what really confuses me is why you guys dont involve yourself with biketrialuk, surely its better for eveyone if all the clubs in the uk work together, schoolboy errors like running comps on the same weekend as another or in some cases two other clubs are just unnessecary, all its going to do is stuff up everyones events by spliting the riders and making them do one or the other championship instead of both. i know excactly what pressures there are on comp organisers, you may be forgetting i also organise comps (occasionally it may be but all the same...) but all the same surely working together will only improve the sport... if you want a hand getting the calendar to fit with everyone elses feel free to give me a shout and i'll look into it for you, i can usually find a free afternoon to help out. (just pm me for my number) cheers tom
  9. otters pool prom then into town, south docks working our way up and finally f**king the cops up the arse while we session the uni and hospital areas. wayne might be coming down if i can bully him into it for a few days riding around the 15th april... i'm definately up for it, theres been far too liverpool rides recently
  10. that sexy boy with his hands in his pockets is getting worried that your younger son is soon going to be outriding him. yeah tom sorry for not bigging you up too, i'd forgotten that you'd rinsed novice, thats pretty good going and i want to see you in inter soon, you can lap with me if you want and then i can keep an eye on how close to beating me you are ian, sam or tom can one of you guys give me a call when your all together, need to have a chat with you all tom (07737648463)
  11. prize list will be up soon, we're in talks with a couple of companies to sort out some prizes for the top three in each category. put some effort into this one and you could ride away with some nice new bits
  12. and not only did the wee lad want to ride all 20 sections but he was badgering his dad about being alowed to 'go play' afterwards, he wasn't prepared to stop riding just because he'd run out of sections. unfortunately i have no plan to ever have kids but if i do by mistake they'll be riding trials...
  13. just to clarify, the 221ti does not have a titanium frame, its just an alu frame specced up with fancy ti parts... (or at least thats what the monty rep told us last year at addingham...
  14. i go to physio once a fortnight for work on my back and knees, am going in for an mri scan next month on my back, have to go to the gym 4 times a week and swim 3 times a week just to keep my body in good enough shape to ride. have also been told by the time i'm 25 i'm going to osteo arthritis (thats 2 years away!!!). however i still ride, first time back on the bike this weekend and i've pulled every muscle in my body (spent an hour this morning trying to find one thats not pulled, there aren't any) and have opened up my shin and knee all fun and games, whose up for a ride?
  15. i've had some brilliant weekends riding trials with alot of you guys and gals who showed up on the weekend but this sunday at addingham was definately my best trial to date, i'm really happy with how i rode, thought the atmosphere was brilliant, eveyone being friendly and chatty and cheersing each other on. that little lad on the red 16" was absiloutely loving it, i really hope he and all the other begginer/novice riders keep coming, its those guys who make the trials worth doing, watching the sprogs race up the ranks. the rider who impressed me the most by a long way was sam oliver, a year ago that kid hadn't entered a comp and was practising 4 pallet ups in the sports hall in north wales, this sunday he rinsed expert and i think he came 4th!!! 4th and he's only been riding comps for a year, you big boys better watch your backs because he's going to cause some trouble in the results this year and thats what i love is seeing new riders race up the ranks through pure skill, determination and support. obviously i want to put a huge thank you as always out to barbara, wayne and all the observers and helpers who without them these trials just wouldn't happen. i did hear some complaints about the new 'must bring an observer with you' rule and i can understand why riders are unhappy about it but with observers these events will not happen. all it takes is going to your LBS and spending £40 on a bike rack, put the bikes on the back of the car instead of in it and bring a friend, parent, girlfriend etc with you. ok your going to owe them a few beers but to be fair we all owe those observers a few beers... lastly i want to give a big shout out to a small group of people who really make me smile when i get to trials, all the supportive parents, i dont know many names but ian oliver and jon you two are the kind of people i'm talking about. without the support of parents like you encouraging your kids on and sacrificing your time to make the whole thing happen trials really wouldn't be what it is - keep it up because its support from you guys that will help britain to produce some of the best trials riders the world has ever seen see you all at the next tykes tom (oh yes and thank you for my card tom+sams sister)
  16. just checking on dates etc and its come clear that every single one of your events this year (except aug 6th) clashes with other clubs events. ok some of them are the southern clubs who don't chare riders anyway but could this not have been avoided, i was seriously considering riding the whole YMSA championship this season but theres no point now because i'm also riding tykes and the two clash. not a very happy trials rider any chance of the dates getting sorted out so us riders can actually ride both instead of having to ride one club only?
  17. this is open to everyone, itd be nice to see some international riders entering so your more than welcome. just make sure when you post yours off you cover the postage costs properly because i'd hate for it to not turn up. when entries start showing up i'll put a reply in here and edit it every time a new one arrives so everyone can check whether their film has made it it. in reply to partz question about getting off and moving the camera, no problem at all just dont pause it or turn it off, its got to be 2 minutes of continuos un edited video. get those brains ticking over and get some entries in, oh yeah and tell everyone you know about the comp so we get plenty of entries tom
  18. the camera cannot be paused and re started, swapped from one camera to another or stopped and re started in any way. if the camera moves fine so long as it keeps shooting...
  19. i cant have you email them to me because university email has a block on it. just burn it to cd and post it in i'll know if its been edited if the riding stops and then re starts or if the location or camera angle suddenly change - anyone doing this will be disqualified cheers tom
  20. wow that place looks wonderful, really nice scenery and some nice rocks too. i've not yet found my favourite place to ride, gotta get out to canada and europe some more to find the ultimate riding spot...
  21. hard one but good topic, assume you mean trials frames only yeah? either: original cannondale ashton or leeson clear660
  22. run it on biodiesel, the government and car manufacturers dont want you to know that any diesel will run on a 50/50 mix of diesel and vegtable oil because it'll kill fuel tax income and the car manufacturers are in cahoots with the oil companies. i know of a very famous mountain biker who runs their van (a bloody big long wheelbase hightop wagon) on 50/50 all the time and it cuts emisions and doubles your diesel mpg. all you have to do is pay the tax on it which is easy to do (contact the fuel tax people and tell them your using biodiesel and you want to pay the tax on it) and the tax should only be about 8p a litre. buy oil in bulk and you've got fookin cheap and very environmentally friendly fuel... oh yeah and no you dont need to do anything to your vehicle and in most cases it will make it run smoother and quieter, just lower the mix when it gets cold because oil solidifies easier than diesel. if you want to do it go do some research, theres plenty of into out there... yeah but they are also all obese and f**king thick (that not racism, its percentage based fact, 60% of americans are overweight and 20% are clinically obese, they are also the stupidest county on the planet in terms of IQ)
  23. righto, here at the brain of freeridetrials club we've been a bit laid back so far this year and not been getting much comp organising done. thats about to change and in true us style its going to be something a bit different: explaination of the comp: you are to enter a 2 minute urban trials video. the video must be shot in an urban location, it must be shot in ONE two minute run, you cannot edit it in any way, swap from one camera to another, change from venue to venue (unless you're very quick) etc and there is no point in giving it a musical accompaniment because we won't be listening to it. this is not a competition to find out who is good at video editing etc, its for everyone to enter and its the riding and choice of venue that we're interested in. just to make things as clear as possible here is a break down of the rules: -one entry per person -video shot in one continuos two minute run -no editing, changing of camera etc -no music -must be shot in an urban environment -no rules as to riding style (uci, street etc) -no wheel size rules -one rider per video only -one location only -hard copy to be submitted -free to enter -dont get arrested or in trouble shooting the vid -all entries must be accompanies by riders name, address, bike make and model, sponsors names and lastly the rider category. to keep this a bit easier for us there are only 3 not the normal 5 to choose from, novice, inter and expert. -if we think you've entered yourself into a lower category as a glory hunter we will move you up a category, this is at our discretion and you cannot argue with the judges descision -hard copies will not be returned so please keep a copy yourself -in entering this competition you are agreeing to let freeridetrials_club reproduce your video into a compilation of all the winning videos and use this compilation however they see fit. -all videos must play on windows media player there will be 3 video's from each category selected as first second and third and all 12 videos will be compiled onto a cd and each of the winning entrants will recieve a copy. prizes to be announced once we've spoken to our sponsors. all entries must be recieved by midnight sunday 30th april and should be sent to the club via: TOM JOHNSTONE FLAT BA1 BARKHILL COURT I M MARSH CAMPUS BARKHILL ROAD AIGBURTH LIVERPOOL L17 6BD OR HANDED TO ME IN A CASE OR PROTECTIVE COVER ON ANY STREET RIDES OR COMPS I HAPPEN TO BE AT any questions please post a reply here but do not clog this thread with rants, gossip, abuse etc. keep it clean now go use your creativity to find the best location and set of moves to fill 2 minutes
  24. is that a fact or has it got alot to do with the fact that they're cheap forks fitted to cheap bikes, therefor being riden by begginers who probably upgrade them before they break. its also probably got alot to do with everyone expecting them to be cheap shit and when they break they chuck them away rather than trying to get a new set out of you... i'm sure they're a good value for money fork but i'm very suspicious of anyone who tells me their cheapest fork has the least warrenty issues, as far as i can see that may be true but i'm damn sure its got nothing to do with the forks and alot to do with the owners...
  25. yeah but at the same time i shouldn't have to take abuse from scallies in the street, piss heads in my skate park and plastic police men in deserted cemorcial parts of town. to be fair i do plan on getting a van at some point so i can ride more trials etc but that doesn't mean i'm going to use it for the drive to work etc etc. i think it would be great if using a car became even more expensive so that people had to use other transport, the more people who use it the better it has to be. win win situation. at the same time however car companies should be fined for producing un economic cars. i saw an advert the other day for some super dooper low emisions SUV that does 36mpg, 36mpg!!!! thats f**king disgusting, cars should be doing 50-60 mpg with the technology we have. i'm going to leave it there before i get really irate at the state of the world we live in. remember next time its voting - it doesn't matter who you vote for the government always get in, but that doesn't mean that we cant vote in a slightly better government...
