WARNING: I’m shit with language and I’m terrible at talking/writing about my point of view without appearing a total dick. (On the internet’s doubly so) I’m not trying to be, I like the discussion. I should probably add this to my signature if someone can come up with a more snappy disclaimer. I agree the governments shady contracts aren’t exactly inspiring confidence but if you look at vaccine purchasing - they’ve basically ordered loads of all of them. If an off the shelf drug worked well enough on its own then they would have been better off making some shady deals with contracts for supply of that drug? I just don’t see all the governments of Europe basically ordering millions of doses of vaccine from multiple sources for some kind of self serving purpose mainly monetary gain. Deliberately suppressing legitimate science that would potentially save their countries billions and return life a bit more back to normal. A bit of light googling (and I admit I’ve only done light googling) on that drug - gives you an article in nature https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-02958-2 looks like it was updated in December which appears to say that treatment is a meh don’t really know but because it’s an off the shelf job it’s been used as a bit of a miracle cure. This sounds to me more like a conspiracy theory / drug company push like situation. If there are some proper papers on it anyone knows I would really like to read them (I’m bored at home and now I’m interested) to all those saying no thnx to a vaccine dose - I don’t really get it. Yes it was developed quickly, but it’s put through the same rigours to gain approval and the way it works is very different to other vaccines. My logic goes - you have a small chance of dying from COVID. You have a pretty minuscule chance of dying from the vaccine. If things continue you’ve got a pretty good chance of catching COVID, so I’m pretty happy that my odds of survival are higher with it than without it. Low take up is going to be a massive issue.

The way I look at it... Without being in the field, it’s hard to pick apart what is effective and what isn’t - it takes incredibly well designed and executed studies to find out. But if there were drugs that were readily available and were effective enough to stop us needing economy crippling lockdowns - we would be using them. It would surely take a conspiracy on a global scale involving governments, scientists, drug companies etc for that not to be the case? There are too many vaccines in play from too many different places and too many people dying in too many different countries. I find it hilarious that the uk is now basically banned from going abroad, or going out, or seeing other people. The government has been truly pathetic in its handling and is now just a total embarrassment. If the vaccine fixes this I’ll be genuinely surprised. But it seems the best shot.

As far as I can tell this is effective in tests on infected cells in mahoosive doses (beyond safe human dosage). Some countries have dosed it out to people with very minimal trialing and a lot of the studies are massively flawed. it seems the same as with the other drugs Dave quoted - some effect but mostly as a treatment to stop the most sick dying and even then they don’t seem to be that effective? Not sure there are any that currently can be proven preventative?

Yeah ok to the first part - and that I guess is why they added the plank in f1 to remove the chances of going over a bump and losing all downforce by floor height being zero. to the second part - that is a lot!! And also yeah with the marshmallows none of this was in mind as a suggestion, just interest. with that much extra so easily available from the floor of an f1 car, it makes you wonder why they bother with the big ugly and incredibly complex and sensitive wings that possibly make it so hard to follow and pass?

Question for Dave... if Adam slaps on a diffuser that’s reasonably effective, I presume reducing the ride height will increase downforce and relatively evenly? What about side skirts? If you added something like they used on old f1 cars (rubber as far as I remember for a full seal) what sort of performance gain would you get if any?

agree but... Christmas that lasts longer than much longer than Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It’s a fairly bullshit holiday if you aren’t religious, and people spend 2 months a year thinking about it planning it and doing it - it’s crazy - a 1/6 of your life being in Christmas season?!??!? my perfect Christmas - Eve eve- get some presents for immediate family. eve - get a tree decorate it, cook the ham day - eat, go for a walk and slob out with Claire and griff boxing - see some relatives and slob out. Days before new year - eat cheese and drink wine with friends New Year’s Day - take down the tree. Don’t think about it again until 23.12

Ah ok nice - in that case - what about some super sexy aero hubcaps instead of closing up the arches? If you are venting out of the top of the arch I doubt it would affect temps at all and should do a little for drag as a cheap easy diy?

When you say wheel tabs do you mean some super sexy aero hubcaps? I love those images of simple shapes and the drag, I also love the uci get around bike tube profiles where you take the bottom right shape and lop the back end off to simulate a more efficient shape that fits into the uci rule box. I find aerodynamics incredibly interesting

What’s the most efficient upgrade going to be? Seal up/flat the floor and add some diffuser?
