Like Ali said, heads on the inside for a wider base and so a stronger wheel. I do this on my trials rig but on my track bike i lace on the inside for more aero dynamics and can have a slightly shorter spoke.

If you cant find a wall, do it on a hill (facing uphill) and use your lead foot to control your movement and little breaking It helped me all back in the day when bikes had seats Hope this helps.

Just give it a good clean up mate, take your wheel out and press the brake all the way to the bar. This way you can get all the way down the slave pistons Hope this helps. It worked for me
