  1. again true, but even if you don't like the pads i doubt they would be so bad you would throw them away. You would still use them and get your moneys worth, then make a mental note not to use them again... And sQuiT-man... yes you have a valid point but when it comes to something like brakes no-one can say what is best. it just isnt possible because at the end of the day there are so many variables, that people do not take into account. It is obvious from the pad reviews what people consider to be the top few pads, so why not try them. P.S. i work for my money aswell, but i am willing to try new things such as brake pads
  2. There is sooooo many bloody topics about which pads, and there is never a difinative answer... i appreciate that you have used the search etc but really, why don't you just try them for yourself? only you can decide, and who is to say these people can set up breaks for the best results? The pads may be great but at the end of the day they will be crap with the wrong set up. Just try different pads till you find some you like. NO-ONE CAN TELL YOU WHICH PAD IS BEST - FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF
  3. In this case we meant that you were having a go saying we shouldn't 'diss' other riding styles, and then you blatently went and called the UCI people "twonks'. Dictionary meaning of hypocrite I am not having a go, and as far as i am concerned apology is accepted.
  4. UCI loving twonks? you appear to be a bit of a hipocrite - you are using the style of what is preferred by some people as an insult. Nice going (Y) Just to set straight when i posted in the Akrigg thread i knew i was going to get slated cos i didnt like it. I appreciate that he is an amazing rider, and that i couldn't do any of that stuff, but i wasnt keen on the style. No big deal, i never said it was wrong did i?
  5. Personaly not my cuppa tea at all. Interesting style but he may aswell have just done it all on a BMX. I know someone will quote me and slag my point of view, but didnt like it one bit. I just think it is more of a ''gash'' approch to the sport... Sorry. Phil *preparing for onslaught*
  6. I believe Mr. Ben Slinger can front touch / tap fairly high on his mod. I seem to remember he does the smaller part of the Coust wall (slightly sloped brick wall) on the TRA England 2 video... Very nicely i might add (Y)"
  7. sided hops really aren't my thing but i have been practicing recently, best is about 38 inches.
  8. Ok i see what you are saying. Just one other thing then, would it be possibe to 'underfill' the system? if so i think i may have done that cause it is pulling further than it used to before i bled it. I am pretty sure there is no air in it. Is it to do with pushing the pistons back in before bleeding? I just really don't want it to pull so far. How would it be possible to overfill it? Also, how come all discs (of the same make) feel different travel wise? in theory they should all travel exactly the same distance?
  9. Just a quick answer needed from someone who knows what their talking about. Ok basically, i have a front hope trial brake and it works a treat, however, i want to make it so there is less lever travell, i.e it doesn't pull as far. I know the lever reach feels like it has the same effect, but it is already too far out to reach easily, and thats not what i am getting at. Also i have tried removing the wheel and pulling the lever a few times so the pistons auto adjust inwards. This works well... for about ten seconds, then they just adjust outwards again. So is there anything i can do 'cause my lever is presently pulling 1 inch, and for me thats just too much. Thanks in advance.. any help appreciated!
  10. I very much doubt they would be that much weaker. Especially with some of the moves benito pulles (Y)" May be wrong though...
  11. You can also do it the old fashoned way - using a bleed kit and magura mineral oil. Bleed kits (mini service kits) can be purched from here along with new magura hose. But beware, kits do not come with instructions, and bleeding maguras is a hassle. If you dont know how, i would suggest you get your LBS to do it.

    Ashton

Oh dear (Y)" What u going to get to replace it? how long have you that then?
  13. Here's the only one i have... nice pic of me at the start of an expert section, unfortunately you can't really get a very good idea of what the sections are like from that. They get lots harder later on, believe me! Link to picture
  14. Right! Get the hose, and with the use of the two bits of plastic that come with bleed kits clamp it in a vice (if you do not have the plastic bits, drill a 5mm hole longways in a piece of wood that is about an inch wide and high and two inches long, Then cut the wood in half so the hole makes 2 u shaped grooves down each bit.) so that about 1.5 cm of hose is sticking out of the top. Get the "metal bit" and tap it with a hammer untill the barbed end totally dissapears into the hose, and hey presto! You've done it. Heating is not a good way, do not do it!
  15. How long have you got that for Ads, cos i am dying to have a ride on it when your back in the summer. Is it yours to keep or does it get sent back to onza for inspection after you have tested it?
  16. The next trial is on sunday the 5th of June i think, they usuall take place on the first sunday of each month, but this can vary. If anyone wants a ACU licence form then add me to msn and ill send it to you philking58@hotmail.com Also if anyone wants to know about tyke trial i believe the man in the know is Waynio, just pm him and he'll get you sorted out.
  17. True, but i know that after the first comp my friend did he didn't want to do another cos he did so badly and felt ashamed (kinda). What i am really saying is, if there is a chance you can get there, but like me haven't been bothered to get licences etc sorted, then do cos its a really great time, even if you do crap like me.
  18. Make sure you put the ball bearing back in after bleeding aswell! lol The levers are very easy to dismantle, simple to do and not many parts. They are pretty self explainitry really. Yes water is fine in them, i used it for a while, then went onto magura royal blue blood, which is also good in them. As for the torque key, have you tried borrowing one maybe from a LBS? If they dont have one then i guess you'll just have to spend the cash "
  19. Yeah just looking through no-one else has mentioned them, yet they are obviously one of the most damaging things, so much stress on the steerer tube and head tube...

    Competing

I know that waynio has just done a topic kind of similar to this recently, but i would just like to let some of you know about competing. Basically, a week ago my friend tom Rigg gave me a call saying, "Phil! Round 2 of the tykes is this sunday, we both must enter!" I ummed and arred a bit but after a small chat with him he twisted my arm into doing it... I had ridden a lot of natural before, so i entered expert.... i did appaulingly, yes, appaulingly. not quite last but close to it, with 84 out of a possible 100 points. Anyway, the main thing is that i loved it, and i will be doing it again, simply because it was an amazing experience. I am being serious when i say that now i am i tyke trial member and have my ACU licence the hard part is over for me. That was the hard part - getting organised. No i didnt win or beat any of the big names but does that matter when i went out there and enjoyed myself? Seriously, if you have been bothered to read this post then there is no reason why you shouldnt be bothered to get sorted and start competing. Its really worth it even if you dont make it to the top. So please consider starting to compete if you dont already. :S
  21. Yeah take them off have a very close inspection, ie with a magnifying glass if nessisary. ps Why should he get Pashleys? there really not that good, there are pleanty better forks around now, and some of them even have disk mounts ;) If you are in need of new forks, check out the new Echo forks on Tartybikes they do look a bit nice
  22. Same here, i think he'll just go silent hoping this topic will fizzel out :P"
  23. It sure can happen on aything, i once fell off when trying out my new pads in my back garden and wacked my head. Fell about 5 feet onto my head and wasnt wearing a lid. And now i always wear it. i mean it doesnt matter who you are, you can still cock up on the easiest of moves, and its not worth taking the risk. to be honest i dont think people look stupid in helmets anyway, i mean there are so many modern and nice designs around that peolpe can usually find something to suit them.
  24. lol nah, just i know her daughter and i once needed to tel my teacher that i had forgotten to hand in course work, so i got her number then... She only txted me this once to ask me bout the "labon piece"
