On the phase 1.2 its 90 mm for magura brakes. I got a tensile 4 bolt from Tarty and it was the smallest availaible. Don't know about the 1.3 with v brakes though.

Nice Riding Max. Mind those pesky gates in the future!

Trouser rule not strictly enforced, infact strictly ignored in Scottish events.

I usually can't be arsed with bmx vids but that was mental. It got better and beter.

Back from Fort William, pissed I could'nt make it on Sunday. Saturday was fantastic. Big thanks to Barbara and Kevin Duke plus all the observers and helpers for making it a great event and for making the sun shine. See you next year.

I would go with a stock particularily if you are coming from a MTB background (get practicing on your MTB now). I've only been on a MOD once for about 5 minutes and didn't like it so can't really advise on them. Mines a Mad Phase 1.2 (the red one). I almost immediatly ugraded to a single speed kit after mashing the derailluer. Also changed front tire to something wider, changed the stem and put on a booster on the rear brake. You can upgrade as you get more experience and things wear out / you think you need it. I am starting to find the Phase a bit limited but for me was a great starter bike and not a huge investment. If your practical minded you can pick up everything you need on the forum and build up you own bike. Aussie Bob is one of my heros (your link). I have been judging my progress against his and using some of his set ups in my garden. I can even relate to the episode where he talks about his first competition (i'm 41 and regularily come in last in the novice division). It would be good to see some other old geezers out there to compete against, perhaps a masters division is needed.

Very small chance I might make it, but doubt it. Would probably be latte afternoon or evening. -
just got back from nevis range. light showers, not too bad. the place was mobbed with mountain bikers. the logs pipes, and rocks in the main area were unridable due to spectators and campers. ben savage was just setting up. probably a good decision not to go gary.
-
Be prepared 10 Under the Ben is happening on the same day so the place will be mobbed. I think Ben Savage is doing a display. (He did the 10 under events last year)
-
Hope to make this. Does Nevis Range make you pay or can you just show up and ride?
-
I will aim to get there around 10, maybe a bit later. Have to leave early afternoon.
-
Short notice. Tuesday 10/May at Kirkliston quarry at 7 pm ish for informal ride. Maybe Rab or Johny could provide diretions.

Struggling to believe thats real. Willing to be proved wrong though.

Enjoyed! Looks a great place to ride.

No Way, Neil Young in a Trials video - respect for that. Nice riding. Looks like a good place for mountain biking. Just goes to show you that no matter what kind of Trials rider you are - riding trials improves all your skills. As long as you're having fun.

I've had a similar problem for about 6 months and thought it was 'tennis elbow'. After finally getting fed up with it I went to a physio who has diagonsed it as nerve damage coming from a previous neck injury. Apparently there is a nerve cluster in the elbow which can become inflammed and caused similar symptoms. I've tried ibruprofen which dosen't seem to help which would indicate my injury is not muscular (tendons or ligaments) so maybe the physio is right. I am not entirely convinced myself and am still in early stages of excercises. It is agony after every ride but I find it difficult to rest with spring here. Hope your elbow gets better, it sucks being injured!. If your not entirely sure get a second opinion.

Maybe you could get your pals at Thorn to make a steel frame. If their other bikes are anything to go by I'd get one!
-
Excellent. How high is that bush? Best MOD vid I've ever seen.
-
What stem length and degree rise do people use? I am interested more in competition and natural riding. I have a stock MAD Phase 1.2 with a 110mm (?) stem with a 20 Degree rise (as came with the bike). I was at a recent competition and it seemed most people riding stock frames had stems with a higher rise.

Genesis bikes do steel bikes. I have a Core but the Alpitude and Latitude are both steel. Don't know if they have rack mounts and maybe out of your price range but all genesis bikes get a good review. My core is bomb proof

I've got the 1.2. Its my firts trials bike and seems fine to me. I plan on replacing parts when I've got the money and when things break. The mech hanger and gears were the first to go after bending the hanger. Changing to single speed is pretty easy. I would change the wheels next as the ones that came with the bike are pretty heavy and seem poor quality. The hubs require regular attention. Hopefully and new stem soon as well. Save some cash and go for the 1.2. It will get you started.

Good Vid, real smooooth. why not patch tubes? I've got tubes that are more patch than original rubber!

Oops last place. Oh well the only way is up. Get your bike sorted Kev! we need a masters division. Thanks to Gary Mac (whoever he is) for help setting up and to Kevin for running the show and all the befores and afters. Any chance of a new thread for the glasgow comp.
