  1. TL:DR It's well known that these aren't very strong forks, but I was shocked at how easily mine snapped. I gather that these forks (26") have a reputation for snapping, but I never hook or gap to front, and don't think I've otherwise given this fork a hard time. Mine snapped from fatigue while riding on flat tarmac last weekend, and I was inches away from impaling my neck on the upwards pointing steerer tube when I fell. I just thought I'd emphasise how easily these can snap. Echo obviously took note because the forks from 2013 onwards have a way beefier steerer which adds 72g to the overall weight. The intact fork is a brand new 2014 model from Tarty:
  2. Sounds completely legitimate. If you use Paypal frequently as a seller, one day you'll have your Paypal funds suddenly frozen for a month or two when a dispute is opened by some scammy buyer in another continent without a shred of evidence to support his ridiculous accusation. For me that time came six months ago and cost me about £100 and loads of wasted time. Paypal's dispute ruling was obviously unjust and so I took them to the financial ombudsman and was eventually awarded a settlement of £150 from them. A lot of people have been robbed by Paypal and understandably avoid the service where possible.
  3. We all preferred the new arrangement. You get a lap and a half of the old B layout (which I've also driven), then a final lap of figure of eight so you end up clockwise down the main straight. It makes things less monotonous and getting a clean run more challenging. One from September:

    Stolen bikes

Well done for getting so much exposure through the press, Facebook etc. One of them is bound to be spotted.
  5. I've been here twice before with some friends who organise sprint days. On the days they run, everyone does a route around the figure of eight which the fastest Clios complete in about 1:30 and and the fastest kit cars do in about 1:15, which involves going out of the gate clockwise around the figure of eight, and then switching direction half way through the second 'lap', finishing at the end of the main straight with loads of run off to the westerly end. Works really well in my opinion. Count me in! 1. Dann2707 2. Tarty Adam 3. Pashley26 4. MikeRotch 5. Azarathal 6. Rainbird 7. Curtisrider 8. Pete 9. Spunky 10. Greg1040 11. SamKidney (Possibly) 12. 6. My Echo SL fork's steerer failed catastrophically yesterday while riding on flat tarmac. By some horrible piece of luck I was riding down a mild slope on a busy road at the time and so going fairly fast. Gloves, jeans all shredded on impact and I'm praying the bruising to my left knee (I ride left foot forwards) is from impact rather than ligament damage. I can't walk, but fortunately avoided inpaling myself on the steerer and and/or being run over. I bought bike/fork new and have never done a tap in my life.
  7. Anyone fancy a ride in the centre (or otherwise) tomorrow? The weather's supposed to be alright.
  8. I've had my Jitsie for a month and a bit now. In spite of careful bedding in, it does make nasty sounding clicks from time to time — which the SL didn't do — but it hasn't yet skipped or jammed. Cautious optimism... Freewheel/general horizontal dropout blues are getting on my nerves lately.
  9. How did this go in the end? We had a house party which ended at 7am, so I wasn't in a state to ride bicycles this morning. I'm going out now for a little ride on my own if anyone's still about?
  10. I'll be back from London for the weekend, so count me in. Also: https://facebook.com/groups/481180095247882
  11. Can anyone else chime in on this? Adam kindly gave me his thoughts and recommended both the SL and the Jitsie, but I'm interested to hear personal experiences as my second SL is now on the way out. My first one died very quickly whereas my second lasted about year of fairly regular riding.
  12. Unless the chain is so loose that it's flapping about, it'll likely be a chain wrap issue. Imperfect alignment causes premature wear, but is very unlikely to cause skipping.
  13. Nice video! I'm keen to get out riding again after a big hiatus. So is Mr Sparrow by the sounds of it. Some very familiar spots in there!
  14. If anyone's selling lenses, I'm after some video glass for my GH2. Potentially interested in anything for (micro) four thirds, or specifically a 35-50mm fast manual prime (Nikkor Samyang etc) for use with an adapter. Stonehenge back in December on the Winter equinox
  15. I just found this by googling my username! Unfortunately due to injury I'm not riding at the moment, but there's a good Facebook group for riders in Manchester if you haven't found it already. http://www.facebook.com/groups/481180095247882/?fref=ts

  17. Anyone know how they filmed this? RC helis?
  18. Rain... Didn't bother Rich but Oli and I wimped out so tonight's off. Another time for sure. Sam, I would but I'm going down South for a couple of weeks starting this weekend.
  19. Yeah I'll be there. I'll be taking it easy though as I'm somewhat crippled at the moment.
  20. There's a chance I'll have to leave Manchester tomorrow due to shit hitting the fan back at home, but I'll most likely be there.
  21. I'm game for either tonight or tomorrow. Anyone else? Rich, I'm PMing you my number. 7 sounds fine.
  22. Don't know about trams... Deciding on the day sounds like a good idea. And yeah, meet at pic gardens... Would be nice to go earlyish and catch some daylight.
  23. Fair point. Wednesday is good with me.
  24. How's Tuesday night for everyone?
