  1. does it constantly hit the inner side each time you land? alsmot like a loose chain hits the side? i know its alot stiffer than a chain, but was something that came to me...like jambo said, it could end up looking not so great unless its finished nicely
  2. haha, ignore any haters on that...im with you 100% i genuinely believe that how you see/feel about your bike actually affects how well you ride it (for the good or bad)...its just a psychological thing but it still works! im pretty sure i saw adam 'tarty read with a black anodised speedrace with internally routed cables...think it was custom (no idea if speedrace ever made such frames) so may be worth asking him? or hoping he stumbles across this...
  3. amazing!...how are you finding the bike compared to others youve had?
  4. oh right ok... with all due respect meant here; you use dual V's yet very few trials specific frames (like on the page you linked from tarty) and forks have V-brake mounts...there may actually be more frames available that could fit these potential hope cranks than fit a set of V-brakes? I hope you see my point here, or where that conversation leads too....ive been pushing chimneys and slates off roofs today so im far to tired to go into much more detail. just imagine this was hope releasing a new V-brake and the forum responded how you did, then you'll be in the same boat we are in not trying to cause debate or be hostile, only trying to explain how this all came about in a bid to perhaps prevent a repeat in future enjoy the rest of the debate...im done with this until we hear more about the cranks! (or any other parts - i personally want to see a full complete bike of hope parts - frame, forks, rims, bars, gear mechs, the lot! just to see what they come up with) ps edit* they were kind enough to work with inspired to release a street trials bike...AND produced a trials specific hub and brakes...the scene is growing so i wouldnt be surprised if they released a 22t crank that would suffice for all genres (the trials holzfellers are available separately but i imagine wouldnt be nearly as popular - its a very realistic marketing oppurtunity!)
  5. go to work, and come back to two pages of further debate and chat! wow... do most trials specific frames/forks these days come with V-brake mounts as an option? (like the one on the page you posted a few times)...i cant check just now but im curious :/ i think im very like james...theres something about the fourplay style geo/feel that i find so much easier to use for 'conventional' trials TGS style moves. i also enjoy riding on two wheels too which feels so much nicer and less sketchy
  6. they may only represent a small % of the range available, but its the volume of whats sold that count.....only tarty know that. half the 'trials' riders in edinburgh (at one stage last year) could have the option of running 'burns style cranks the majority of riders here may not ride a street trials bike (or old school frame that may be compatable)....but they are still popular. all i know is that they crop up in the videos and bike pictures section pretty often we dont see many saints on the street bikes here - i imagine due to necessity and price....weight may be a factor but most steet bike riders dont seem to be quite as fussy...how many really need a bombproof crank for £200? then again, non trials specific chris king components crop up often...so who knows we do see alot of middleburns here - they offer a lifetime warranty with heavy duty/easy to get hold of bashrings...plenty available second hand etc and have always been popular in that 'old school' way a hope option (like all of their parts) is always attractive. the quality is great and customer service second to none...i imagine that with tweeks to allow them to be used with the inspired style bash and a 22t chainring (similar to the saints) AND at the right price, they would feature on a number of rides *on a side note - a far less popular 'trials' product (in comparison) would in my mind would be the V-brake (going on the % of users here)....still, a good few use them and prefer them over any other brake. IF by chance, a topic on a new V-brake emerges, try to resist identical comments to this thread...just let the V-brake enthusiasts enjoy the conversation on them hope...fully thats an end to all that. goodnight to this topic from me
  7. excuse me?! so are you the internet tough guy now?! so....what is your point, what exactly is the fact youve stated? that these cranks dont fit on the 'trials specific frames'? we know that you tit!! it appealed to the street riding/middleburn style enthusiasts AS WAS MADE CLEAR AT THE BEGINNING!!!! how many times to i need to re-iterate the point that alot of members are interested in this sort of stuff?! so with a little thought... your first comment that sparked it all, "You know this is a TRIALS forum right?" was unneeded - we do know that, we have street TRIALS bikes and we all typed 'trials-forum' into the computer - we know where we are you could have then refrained from stating that these cranks would only be popular if they had a screw on thread...fair enough if its your opinion, but alot of people im sure think they would be popular anyway QED
  8. im lost?! should street trials riders find another forum?! this isnt a 'pure trials specific competition style bike forum'....and ALOT of us dont have what you call a 'trials specific frame' can you not just accept that?! maybe accept that people like to ride trials on frames that are not to your taste?! its pretty simple surely
  9. no i didnt count the bikes...why should i?! what has it got to do with anything?! over the last few years i have seen SOOO many street style 24 (and now 26") bikes in this forum that would be able to take middleburn style cranks (which these may very well turn into in the final development stage). You need to accept that its a very popular (growing) area, and users of this forum include alot of these riders the inspired skye thread was one of the most popular, and my new bike is somehow on the second page of all time (166 pages i think?) on a trials forum and by your logic - is not a proper trials bike?! like sam im confused alot of interest on a trials forum for bikes that arent design for trials huh?! failing that, count the number of topics on non trials specific parts...or the number of bikes riden on here by riders running non trials specific parts (as a result of them being better than the trials specific). what you need to realise is that some of these products appeal alot to the riders who consider trials to be more than your UCI etc stuff....1 example - SAINT cranks are not trials specific, but youd be hard pushed to find anyone who'd say they wernt VERY good for big street trials. *edit - fair enough JD thanks but i am curious - sams bike - what sort of bike is it? a street TRIALS bike.....TRIALS-forum.co.uk.......(clue is in title)
  10. 1. just over two years, and im not too bad at it considering...can do a nice amount of 'trials' type moves too...as far as i was concerned trials is just finding ways to get over or around objects...'lines' if you will. can be anything. according to the internet: Trials riding is an extreme test of bicycle handling skills, over all kinds of obstacles, both natural and man-made Street trials, or freestyle bike trials, is a non-competitive variant, using features found in the urban environment. It is the trials equivalent of street skateboarding or street freestyle BMX. More fluid than competitive trials riding, it encompasses the same skills: very precise control of the bike, through jumps and balancing on very narrow obstacles 2.a your initial point of 'this is a trials forum' argument has already been prooved flawed since a number of us using the forum on our bikes we use for trials are interested in such products (as has been prooved by the interest shown) 2.b your comments regarding how popular this product may be - i havnt done the market research so have no definative proof, but looking at the market available, here and outside trials - it could be pretty popular give a few tweeks (even if they didnt release a screw on version) those are the only points ive questioned, and the only points you require 'prooved' *ps - it wasnt him really him agreeing with me, more a case of the scientific research papers backing up my point, you can argue them all you like - but that seems to be a little lost on you
  11. haha, as i recall (and i just double checked to see)...the scientific journals/websites i linked for you backed up everything i had to say on that matter and prooved i wasnt wrong in fact i enjoyed some constructive and much more pleasant, polite and respectful chat with one of the senior members on here after you stopped your usual argumentative posts! as to the rest of that post, is this 'pure-trials-forum'? hmmmm....i'll let the more experienced members shoot you down on that one if they wish. if you would take the time to read...i made it clear that if they came into production with a way of fitting a bashring etc then it would be viable attractive alternative to a few of us keep the 'danny mac' doesnt do trials type chat out of this topic and start another argumentative thread elsewhere. leave us to comment and anticipate the potential upcoming parts from hope, and how they can be used on OUR trials bikes
  12. this isnt really an argument, youre seemingly confused as to why this product interests trials folk this IS a trials forum where a large amount of people DO ride streety 'trials' bikes that ARE relevant to this conversation on hope cranks. (which puts an end to your initial point) what 'most' people on this forum use is pretty irrelevant. Lots of people on this 'trials' forum use middleburns (on thier trials bikes) and would be interested in a viable hope branded alternative.....putting them to market would be a viable and no doubt profitable venture for them (which puts an end to your 'how popular they may be' point) do you kick up a fuss about other products 'most' people do not use on here?! or are you just trying to be awkward (again) I agree andrew....their other products seem to do very well despite stiff competition, and when people buy after market hope parts, a good few like to get the whole set this could be just the first step in thier cranks production, who knows what else will come out in time
  13. SO many people run the street style trials 24" setup (more than just the inspireds) that its would be well worth putting them into production....aswell as the older school frames that are still very popular, and any other frames that do fit the likes of middleburns would also be very popular with the trend of street/trails bikes aswell i imagine so all in all, the market available for them probably (at a guess) dwarfs the market available for trials specific 18t style cranks
  14. with street trials frames becoming hugely popular (especially on this trials forum )...i wouldnt be surprised to see these cranks on a number of steeds here depending on the price and how the bashring would fit, they could be a viable alternative to burns/saints*/holz etc...and with the hope quality and customer service, it wouldnt be a poor choice * which incidently are also not specifically designed for 'trials', but are really rather good at it
  15. Haha im definitely not I'm afraid, the fourplay before this was a prized toy...had it for two years with no intention of swapping it for anything other than this As for replicating the bike on less of a budget, well no, i dont think you can with the feel of it...when you ride it, it's apparent how different it is to the fourplay, with the forks at he mo standing out being stiffer than anything I've tried. The special extras (and even just the 'basics' of the original bike) do give it something extra that make it so much nicer to ride...it's all psychological, but it still helps. I really didn't need the green dials, but each time I look at them I smile and think how cool it all is...and then enjoy riding it just that little bit more why else do so many of us put so much emphasis on what colour parts to get?! Probs a similar reason I guess I'm pretty lucky either way and loving it, thanks for the comments
  16. thats it complete!!!! first post updated
  17. did make me smile sam will keep that in mind andrew...im heading to work tomorrow so have orchard brae and crewe road south to bed them in will take some water along with me definately not putting stickers on (but thankyou for the offer)...have got the bike fully up and running, rerouted the front brake etc... any more details i think will be too much - when you see the paint in person you'll know what i mean...its almost like a translucent / slightly changes colour from various angles colour? its almost fancy enough to be a graphic in itselt, yet clean looking to show off the frame details too (in my humble opinion) the team hope green on the dials is very close to the colour of the frame...like the blue hope parts i used to have, the shades seem to slightly vary from piece to piece. the dials seem slightly darker than the usual light green team hope stuff ive seen on here/tarty - maybe hope are gradually making the shade darker? no idea - seeing an old green headset on display in dannys old shop and it looks very light compared to todays stuff
  18. running with the black inspired pedals andrew...trying to keep as much black as possible few issues with getting the BB in, was an idiot and didnt use grease at first and some threads on the cup have stripped. plenty of grease later and a recommendation from tarty and the BB and cranks were in perfectly Just been out for the first ride on it and i love it, discs are still bedding in so no trialsy type moves yet as the wheel doesnt hold...everything else feels so much easier, really nice on the front wheel and so easy to hop/manual good luck with the nitromorsing trialsishard which frame are you getting done - what colour are you going for?
  19. haha i did think it would split people was this sort of contrast that i was going for: the pictures dont do it justice, the lighting in my room at night is poor at the best of times...so going to wait for a nice day outside when its all done and get some better ones no stickers going on - theres so many logos on the parts it would look too much imo. the frame protector (though not ideal to have on looks wise) makes the frame about as busy as id like the green is orange bikes 'candy apple green'...was literally the only place in the uk to do such a colour! and the quality of the finish is fantastic. pretty layer of paint too, maybe more so than the original orange headset on now, just got to get the cranks on and figure out how many spacers to use to get the right chain line...hopefully start filming the second half of the video i was making before the fourplay broke, and hopefully will get a ride in tomorrow to start getting used to it! thanks again
  20. original post updated!! shhh sam, you can ride yours remember! im getting my kicks so far from looking
  21. we are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just back now and i cant believe how good the green came out, it wont be everyones cup of tea but im beyond happy with it...full set of pics due as soon as the headset is faced and its built :D:D:D:D
  22. double post ! thought id keep it in here as the questions is relevant to the skye... the howitzer BB that comes with it, what size is it? 68mm x ? or alternatively...what are the measurements i need to take to figure this out as its not written on it anywhere someone wants it for a kona stinky and says he needs a 68mm by 113mm
  23. working tonight and the depot is 10 miles out and i dont drive :/ if there was a way i definately would!
  24. they tried to deliver it today, but apparently the flat number wasnt on the address...so the half wits from TNT didnt bother buzzing any of the 6 flats and let a note outside. will have to have it arranged for tomorrow/day after but cant do that because TNT is experiencing technical problems at thier head office. so its been within 10metres of me less than an hour ago :/ argh
