That was my first thought but the bb tool won't quite reach enough to tighten the lockring up anymre as the spindle is touching inside and just holding it off the splines! Nowts goin right for me with this bike at the mo!
-
Shouldn't be dead as its brand new, only got it last month!

I'm having yet another problem with the Heavy Tools! After sorting the chain/freewheel issue out now I have another problem come to light. When I'm riding along, not even under much strain, when I push the left pedal down when it gets to the bottom of the stroke it clicks. At first I thought it was the pedal but that runs smooth enough and is brand new so shouldn't be anything wrong. Now its been a long time since I did any mechanical work on my bike but do you reckon it could just be the bottom bracket isn't tight enough? If thats the case I'll have to sort another toll out as the ice tools one I've got won't reach enough to tighten the lock ring anymore as the spindle is touching inside!

Will have a look into that when I get home, does annoy me that the whole thing rattles about and its not solid! Cheers

Will chain is almost that tight but will whip another link off to get it right down, whats this mod to the tensioner you speak of? I may do it as when I'm stood on the pedals and look down at the chain line you can see the tensioner poking out a bit so could do with something tweaking I reckon. Also realised that I'm not as fit as I was 8 years ago!
-
Think this has been the problem, the chain wasn't running perfectly inline as the rear tensioner sits a bit skewiff so if I pedalled then brought the chain back it wasn't sitting properly on the bottom of the freewheel, if you understand that! After a lot of messing around shortening the chain, adjusting the tensioner and generally trying it I think its sorted so will see how I go.

I was advised on an 18t up front with 15 on rear, rides quite nice really!
-
Yeah thats my plan, check chain first in case I am wrong. Just gotta plow through my dads garage and find chain tool now!!
-
All brand new Its deffo the big bang, cranks jump forward and I nearly cause myself a severe injury!
-
Yeah I whipped it off with the old man last night an realised it only had light oil in so de greasing would have made no difference. Put it back on and its still skipping, had my dad watch while I gave it some power and he's also sure it wasn't the chain slipping. Just had another quick go to show my mate an he saw it too, happens every couple of pedal kicks. Everything is brand new, the setup is Echo SL 108 freewheel, Trialtech Lite Z610 chain, Try All single speed tensioner and a Trialtech Sport 15t screw on sprocket. Got a pic below, if you wanna see a better pic let me know. What do you reckon? I know if it is the freewheel it is a one off problem so just be sure I'm not holding it against Tarty or owt, an your advice is greatly appreciated! If I can find my chain tool I'll try whipping some more links off an straightening the chain line out in case I am wrong but sure it's not that.
-
Nah I know the difference between chain skipping and not. Gonna get the freewheel de-greased this weekend as per the info from the other replies and will see how it goes then!

Went to Halfrauds, absolute pap. Got a crank remover but they aint got any freewheel tools. Said they haven't even got one themselves to use in the workshop!
-
I know what your sayin, it's cause the frames so old it's still quite a lot bigger than normal trials frames, think the official size is about 14.75". To be honest I secretly wanna break it now so I've got a good excuse to buy a proper trials frame!

After months of waiting for the funds to arrive I've finally managed to get my heavy tools built up this afternoon with all my lovely new kit from tartys. The only problem I've got however is the freewheel I got, Echo SL108, is absolute shite! I don't if its just me or the fact its new but it skips like mad! Not even putting much power down like when I rode the bike down the road it still skipped, now is this cause its new, cause I've not fitted it tight enough or simply that it may be faulty? Need help guys as it may have to go back! PS. Will get pics up shortly in pics section!

Ordered, hopefully be here tomorrow so I can get it all built up by the weekend an get some pics up!

If it works I want one!!

Well I've managed to blag £140 in vouchers and cash for my bday so the big order for the remaining bits should be goin in on Wednesday hopefully. Whilst it is an old school frame it ain't an old school build, my plans are the following, bearing in mind I'm trying to keep costs relatively low; B/B - Try All ISIS £52 Cranks - Trialtech Sport Forged £50 Pedals - Trialtech Race Platform £25 Freewheel - Echo SL 108 £60 Chain - Trialtech Lite Z610 £14 Chain Tensioner - Try All single speed £35 Bashring - Either Because CNC or Echo 7075 £20 Total £256, will possibly stretch to £270 if people suggest something other than whats listed. Any suggestions to other items at around the same prices from anyone or advice on stuff I listed that people have or have had is appreciated. B/B, cranks, freewheel an bashring are what I'll get if they will all fit together on my frame! Advice/comments??

I'd say its deffo legit as it aint asking for any info or to update details of any kind, as long as it doesn't say follow this link to take up this offer its not really very dangerous

At work, bored, can't sleep, can't be arsed to brew up, roll on 6.15am!

If your concerned about the length try a shorter but higher rise stem, then you should be able to lift the front end easier (I think) but other than that just wait and keep practising, you ain't gonna nail everything overnight. When I started I weighed about as much as a bag of crisps so that shouldn't make any difference, just keep practising an you'll pick things up an stuff'll get easier!

Mixing old an new, was considering gears but other than the fact I hate setting up shifters if I go single speed it's gonna save me quite a lot an I ain't got much to spend. Looking like its gonna be the Trialtech ones, never spotted them at first but should do the job perfect. Cheers for the help!

Seen as its my bday in 2 weeks and I shall be getting cash an tarty vouchers for the last bit of my build Ive started looking at which parts I need and have spotted these on offer at Tarty's Echo 7075 CNC. Has anyone ridden these that can offer me an opinion as to whether I should bother or spend a bit more? Gonna be getting ISIS and runnnig a FFW an bashring if that makes a difference! Cheers all!!
