  1. I'm in exactly the same situation, married with a young son and another on the way and I only manage a few hours a week if I'm lucky. But I've picked up quite a bit in those few hours, just try an get some spare time to get out with some better riders who can give you advice and when you get your odd hour here and there really go for it!
  2. Just a standard spot, shift a few bits around an could knock up some small sections to ride! Will sort a google earth/maps location in the morning as on my phone now, see if you fancy a look! Right just had a look on google maps on my iPhone and the postcode for my signalbox is SK17 8TQ. If you search for that, look for the bridge crossing the railway and the little quarry is just up and right from there!
  3. Change of plan for me, gotta service car an the wides goin out Saturday night to Manchester so gotta stay home to look after our son. Gutted as it's my only proper Saturday I get off, maybe the week after though!
  4. Dunno, path goes uphill and think it used to be access to where the old water towers were so just goes high above the track, plus I don't wanna run into that quicksand!! Couple more pics
  5. Got nowt on at work so I just locked up the box and had a wander over the road to see what's about. Seen as I work next to a big quarry on what used to be a very busy railway line I thought there could be some riding potential and where would such a place be?? Behind a big metal gate with lots of restricted entry signs and such of course! Climbed over the fence next to the gate (ignoring the danger - quicksand notice) and walked up the track 50m and came to a big open old quarry filled with stuff, there's the remnants of the old turntable workings, loads of metal girders, old cotton reels, some sleepers, other big bits of machinery that I have no clue what they are and stuff like that. Bit of a spooky secluded space like and I'm not sure where the quicksand is supposed to be, could be further up the track as it goes a lot further than I went and all the stuff I saw would definately have been swallowed if there was quicksand present! Here's a few pics I took with my iphone, may try for a ride there one day if one of my mates is available as wouldn't want to ride there alone, especially as when I was going I noticed a big long mound of gravel was actually a tunnel about 15-20m long and I have no idea what's in there (rubbish, tramps, wild animals, dead bodies, nothing, etc..) but didn't want to go back for a look as I'm a pussy!
  6. Rear cassette?? Not on a mod, unless you mean mount the freewheel on the back which would lead to some very odd gear ratios. Or do you mean you want a freehub instead of a fixed??
  7. I can vouch for the TR hubs as well as I ran one of those before I switched to a modstock!
  8. I run a Viz and a sealed onza and both seem to run well. How much are you looking at spending, are you bothered about weights??
  9. I've seen a few posts from people who run mod forks on there 24 and trim the front tyre so it just fits under and they run them with normal trials bars and they've said they ride great! Tried searching for some pics but I can't for the life of me remember who did it, looked quality though! And personally I think BMX bars on a trials bike look gash.
  10. Well I've been on here since 8 this morning and there's been SM's on and off all day but barely any posts made. Your all obviously living it up in your own private chat, I feel so angry and alone in the world without access to it, screw you guys, screw this forum, screw my life! Now where did I leave that noose.........
  11. Just wondering if anyone will be out in Shef-vegas next saturday? Ogre PM'd me about paying a visit and thought I'd see who'll be there, my appearance all depends on whether my missus drops or not this week and how busy we are but I'm really gonna try and show my face!
  12. Sounds like it yes. If you can afford it I'd upgrade to some ISIS cranks and bottom bracket. How much money have you got to spend??
  13. The wheels are anodized not painted, and it probably will wear down but the amount I ride currently means they'll last a good while yet, shouldn't affect the braking though.
  14. Think the control will be going after christmas though, I like it but I'm not getting on as well as I could with it so probably gonna go for something with a higher BB. Need to get out on a group ride so I can have a feel of some other frames first though! Cheers for the comments guys, I might drop some stackers on my python and see what it's like then. Do you reckon I'd benefit doing that and swapping the Zoo's for some high rise trialtechs??
  15. If your already running cables then I'd say try a BB7 before anything else, your already setup in terms of lever and cable so just need the caliper and if you don't get on like ogre says it'll easily sell.
  16. In that case have I told you how lovely your avatar pic is??

    Rider Or Bike

It's definately the rider but I think the bike has a bit to do with it. I know I'm a pretty low standard rider but when I swapped bikes with my cousin and had a go on his old DS1 I couldn't do anything on it whatsoever, only managed about 2 backhops before dropping the front end. Couldn't even half pedal a few pallets as the geo of the bike was that bad it just stopped me. Agree with Phatmike about having a bike that's comfortable, sadly I'm yet to find such a beast, which is why I'm still struggling with the basics!
  18. I'm quite a big lad so needed the bars up high, could lose some if I got some trialtechs but can't afford at the moment! Also just purchased a RB Designs carbon maggie lever which will be going on one of my rides with some braided hose but not sure which yet!
  19. Yes!!!!! Bout bloody time boy! When your valiated this forum will empty your bank account, or is that just me??
  20. This morning I finally got round to taking some pics of my bikes with my camera and not my phone, so here they are! 07 Python Short 06 Control Short The pair together Specs are basically the same, urban forks, mono trial front with wavey rotors from ebay, rear maggie with HS yellows and TR clamps, trialtech cranks, pedals, sprocket, TR rims and echo coloured grips. Differences are echo stem with tryall bars on stock, trialtech stem with zoo bars on mod, first blog headset on stock, cane creek headset on mod, echo sl FFW on stock, tensile 96 on mod, because bashring on stock, echo urban on mod, TR and viz hubs on stock, sealed onza on mod, and tryall stikys on stock with creepy crawlers on mod.
  21. All depends on your budget really, I'd wait till your validated and have a look what's on offer in the for sale section!
  22. I wouldn't bother spending any money on it to be honest, maybe get some magura's with a couple of Evo mount kits, the 2011 HS11's all come with them so wouldn't cost any extra, but other than that I'd save your cash for another bike when you get better!
  23. I half agree with this, when I first signed up I heard that occasionally regular members got promoted to senior status when voted for by other senior members for making good posts, giving good advice and generally not being a tool, basically like promotion from new members to full status but your posts would be checked out over a longer period and only admin/mods/other seniors could vote you in. I'm still not 100% sure if it is/was done this way or if it is purely for the (not trying to sound jealous) better riders of us all. There's no reason why senior members would need a private news or events thread anyway, surely discussing with the majority of the users on here would be more practical for feedback?? However I see no problems with the seniors having their own chat forum, although like I said before without actually seeing what gets discussed in there I can't really have any strong feelings against it!
  24. It won't be a 16.5mm will either be 16 or 17 but I'd assume it's a 16mm. What have you been using to try and get it off? May be worth taking it to a local garage and just asking them to have a go with a decent socket and long ratchet for a decent bit of leverage. Shouldn't be that tight, best make sure the thread is greased up when you get it off before you refit the wheel!
