just seen this thread, and wanted to add another opinion. Im actually the reverse of this situation, as i'm 20 and my girlfriend of 6 months turns 27 this year. Bit of a larger age difference but i only notice it when people comment on it. I dont see why it cant work- its not that uncommon for an age gap like that at your ages, and its not exactly massive! If you really like her that much then you should give it a go as its not like your asking her to marry you or something (Y) if it doesnt work out then you can always calm it down. If you really want her but put it off you run the risk of being really gutted later on and might start asking yourself "what if ?" which will be really really annoying.

does it really matter what has been said? all you need to know is it was really discusting and disrespectful. careful everyone. This might not even be the guy in question so be a bit careful what you say. You cant just hurl abuse at someone unless its proven he is the one that wrote these terrible things. If it is proved then fire away though he would bloody well deserve it.

Its about joining in and enjoying the atmosphere of the day. If you go to the right places with the right people then you can have a cracking day just like i did. Of couse you can drink any day of the week and have a good time but St Patricks day is just a fun day and a bit different. It was awesome! well just got back and had a very fun day with friends in the pub. I also got my guinness hat which is a bonus. I dont claim to be irish at all, i also dont see why i have to be irish to go out and have a laugh on st paddys day. Fingers up to anyone who thinks that cos i couldnt care less.

So what if its consumerism gone mad? so is christmas, so is valentines day etc etc etc- in fact pretty much everything in the whole world ever is these days, so should everyone boycott everything? Of course you can get drunk anyday but its not everyday you'll get a happy, fun, green (as in the irish national colour!), party ampnosphere. Its a little bit different to any friday or saturday night. Guniess hats, bands in the pub, all day barbeque and more sounds good fun to me. Who says you have to get really pissed anyway? could just have a few!

Ah but im not. If you are under 18 you can still celebrate down the pub, with a pint of coke, sprite, or any other non alcoholic beverage of your choice (Y) If you are under 16 then get an adult to take you in! *Unsure of legal age to enter the pub in the UK these days. Could be wrong!

Just wondering if anyone has any plans for celebrating St paddys day tommorow? I myself am going into a lecture at 11am which finishes at the same time the Irish pub called the Lectern opens which is just down the road. So out of the lecture into the pub where i will be staying as long as i can stay conscious for. I couldnt give two shits that its a commercialised day exploited by Guniess to boost sales. Its an excuse to get very merry with your mates! Where are you? where are you? Come on lets be 'aving ya!

Im not trying to knock you im just giving you another opinion. Some people can get away with going to boring/ dodgy places if they are just interested in the course- thats fine. Im just trying to give it a different perspective. It might be a fine nightlife and a great campus for all i know. But its probably best you are sure about that. Priorities might well change when you go to uni and if you are stuck somewhere where there is nothing to do it could suck big time. Im lucky as although my campus is boring Brighton has loads of clubs, pubs and bars. Deciding on where to go for uni is a big decision so dont rush into it. Dave

hmm is the campus big, lively and interesting? i dont think views would be enough to tempt me somehow. My campus is 6 miles outside Brighton and we have some "views" but its boring as hell up here. The buses are really slow and take like half an hour to get into Brighton. If theres not much going on, on campus and the town is a shit hole could be a crappy really :blink: i know the course is important but so is the location.
