I've been advised to pick songs which have a 'certain' genre and identity... Originally I was going to do Szamar Madar by Venetian Snares as it uses a Wagner sample which I would have picked as the other, then i realised wagner composed the song in 1918. Doh'. James
Cheers guys. I will probably be comparing it against something like Venetian Snares or Prefuse 73. As long as it uses samples from orchestral compositions and is heavily reliant on digital production methods it doesn't really matter which song I choose. Ideally it will be something which is clearly post 2000 and suitable for juxtaposing against the pre 1900 song regarding the effects of technology, social and economical, context for composition etc etc. Wagner's a good shout. I've looked at siegfried idyll as an option amongst others from the other composers mentioned but had no luck in identifying a song where I've thought 'That's the one'. I guess classical music is a 'grower' haha. James

I was wondering if anyone was into music which was composed before 1900. I'm trying to get familiar with some good compostions but finding it difficult to sift through the masses of material there is. My research is leading up to a report where I need to compare a pre 1900 and post 2000 song.... Basically I'm looking for those of you who have a strong interest in music and a familiarity with music composed before 1900 to suggest songs or composers to listen to. It can be anything from any of the periods before 1900 including Romantic and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks James
To those of you who seem bothered enough about this particular subject, perhaps you should get "Trials Allowed" etched into your gravestone, and leave everyone elses alone. This argument has become far to over analysed and bit over important for some of you! In the words of Marcus Brigstocke "Sit down, make a cup of tea, put on a Cat Stevens album on, and CHILL OUT!" Surely with such literary prowess your efforts would be better focused elsewhere?! Personally I think it's wrong. Although in the same vain as Tomm, I have done it in the past. Perhaps with age I have become more considerate. James
Nice bike joe, liking the pictures. Having browsed ebay frequently over the last few days, it's refreshing to see a picture of something in focus. Nice avatar mar.
BMX, Boxing, running/general fitness, reading, writing, music (seeing, playing, studying), that's about it really. Did fiddle with cars lots but I don't have one at uni, oh well. James
Mine was on new years a few years back with someone i'd been seeing for a while. Was alright, until someone walked in the room, put me off completely and couldnt finish the deed. Oh well.
