If you look on the logbook you will find a section you send off to register changes to the vehicle. https://www.gov.uk/change-vehicle-details-registration-certificate/how-to-tell-dvla When I used to work at HPI I frequently spoke to people about recorded colour changes, often it was just people being fussy about the colour their vehicle was registered as. For example, when dealers register new vehicles they would put 'Grey' but then at some point someone would complain that it is actually 'Silver' and by updating DVLA it causes a colour change to be recorded on their system

Today when I tried to get out of the car the door release handle made a ping noise and failed. Took the door card off and it turns out the door lock cable has snapped. A replacement on ebay is only £6 but I will ring the local stealerships tomorrow and check in case they have one in stock. Currently the door card is in the boot and to open the car from the inside I have to use some pliers to pull the snapped cable

Yep, the passenger side was like that on mine and every other Leon I have seen with retrofit aero wipers.

The Fabia wiper works MUCH better than the standard one.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22630303 It sounds pretty f**ked up. -
Dez, what bike shop do you work in? I would like to know so I can avoid it.

I know the Leon wiper conversion is a mixture of parts. I'm fairly sure you also need the below part if you still want to be able to use the rear washer jet: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-FABIA-1-SEAT-LEON-CUPRA-REAR-WIPER-ARM-WASHER-COVER-CAP-6Y0-955-435-/121110822107 There used to be a seller on ebay that sold the conversion all together for about £20 but it looks like they don't do it any more. I looked through my buying history and am fairly sure it was this seller I got mine from last year - http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/hootiemcboob1969

Jacked up car and had a proper look this evening. It looks like the drivers side inner pad is suffering with a sticky piston and has worn down very low, all the other pads are nowhere near as bad, unlucky but I will get it sorted in the next couple of weeks. I'm considering getting the rear windows tinted so what sort of price should I be expecting to pay to get it done professionally? I think it will look awesome but more importantly it will provide more security seeing as I'm effectively using the back as a van transporting my bike and stuff.

Their websites search function is shocking. It seems that the own brand ones are not available in the sizes you need but the below ones are: http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/lucas-lwdf19-retrofit-flat-windscreen-wiper-blade/ http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/lucas-lwdf21-retrofit-flat-windscreen-wiper-blade/ Or you could splash out and go for Bosch ones: http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/bosch-aerotwin-ar19u-wiper-blade/ http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/bosch-aerotwin-ar21u-wiper-blade/ Aero blades look nicer and they work better. It might be worth shopping around to see what you can find, you will have hook fit arms.
-
No. Get aero wiper blades. 1 second I'm trying to find them, their website is shit and just points you to the most expensive ones when you use the vehicle search.
-
Get retrofit aero wiper blades. You need 21" and 19", just get the own brand ones from http://www.wiperblades.co.uk

Weather this weekend was awesome and I rather enjoyed 2 days spent riding my DH bike. This post is relevant to the car thread because I got there in my practical diesel estate. I didn't think I would but I actually love the Passat. Robin - If I take the seat and front wheel out of the DH bike and put it in at an angle, once it is in I can get it to stand upside down along one side of the car and I could sleep along the other if I wanted to. This method should be really easy with the XC bike! I have also thought that it would be possible to compress the DH bikes forks with a ratchet strap to get the bike in easier. And annoyingly this weekend after only 300 miles the check brake pad warning light has come on the Passat, I knew they were old pads but they didn't look that low, DOH!

To make the Rockrider feel shorter you could have just fitted a shorter stem
-
The Trance-X is an awesome frame. Get it built up and give it a try!
-
Riding in a group makes such a difference, take it in turns on the front, control the pace and you will fly around
-
I haven't put the bikes in for a test run yet but I'm fairly confident I will be able to fit the DH or XC bike down one side with the front wheel out and the bike upside down, then me on the other side on a sleeping mat. Tic sized camper van

He is pretty set on getting an A4 but it has to be the A4 Sport which makes things a little tougher. I'm going to let him have a drive of mine so he can see what the Passat Sport feels like in comparison to the A4 Sport he recently test drove (and didn't buy because it has grey cloth interior and was black so he thought it looked like a hurse ) I spent 2 hours doing insurance comparison quotes and phoning my old insurer to check on the status of my claim and get a quote for the Passat. My previous insurer were being twats telling me that the crash is still down as my fault because the other driver has not yet admitted fault, in previous calls they have told me it's already marked as a non fault claim because it clearly was the other driver in the wrong. They even tried to say that my protected no claims had been frozen to 7 years even though they had already sent me a renewal with 8 years no claims on it. The best price they would offer me was £707 so I told them I would go elsewhere. What a nightmare that was but at least now I have insurance! I had a quote as low as £265 from quotemehappy.com but they are an online only company and I didn't want to trust them so went with a quote from Tesco Bank at £390.

Mine is the 130bhp Sport with 6 speed box. Because it's the Sport it has firmer suspension so it's nicer to drive than the other Passat's we test drove. It is dull in comparison to the Cupra but much better than I expected it to be
-
It was dark and nasty weather so you will have to wait. You just want to see me next to a massive estate for a laugh don't you? It's no Leon Cupra but is perfect for my needs and was within budget so I'm really happy with it.

After over 2 months without a car I'm finally back on the road! 3rd Passat viewed last night, it went on Auto Trader Monday night and we were the first people to phone up and view it. I purchased there and then and it's already sat outside my house. 2004 VW Passat 1.9Tdi Sport. 103k miles. I'm the third owner, the guy I bought it from had owned it since it was about 1 year old and he paid extra to have extended VW warranty service on it so it has full VW service history up until last year with the Cam Belt done at 65k. He had it serviced by a local garage about 1 month ago and it has since only done 300 miles. The last 5 MOT's have had no advisories, it ideally needs new front tyres and it needs a damn good clean inside but it's tidy and I'm very happy after the comfortable 80 mile drive home last night in heavy rain! It was up for £2995 and I got it for £2700. I only have day insure right now but it looks like I will be getting it insured for £350-£400 including the non fault accident declared. Viewing cars when it's raining is not advisable haha Anyway, here is a photo from the advert:

Yep the 130bhp TDI. The competitively priced ones seem to be going the same day they are advertised though! Luckily my friend is looking to replace his car with the same engine Passat/A4 so he is happy to drive me around as a way to check the market for himself. Once we have sorted out a car for me I am his taxi driver to find him a car.

Going to look at my 4th car tonight, this will be the 3rd Passat estate I have looked at in the last couple of weeks. All seems good in the photos and on the phone. Private sale, 2004 VW Passat Sport 1.9TDI. 103k miles, current owner has had it from 1 year old and since then it has had full VW warranty service and the cam belt was changed at 80k miles. It went on Auto Trader today and we are the first to view, I'm travelling about 70 miles straight after work. Wish me luck!

Went to view another practical diesel estate tonight. Private sale, the price was a bit high but it looked tidy in photos and seeing as it was only an hour drive away I thought it was worth viewing. The seller was really cool and just left me and my mate alone to look around and take it out for a test drive. 2004 VW Passat 1.9 TDI Highline with 124000 miles, it needed a new passenger side CV (the drivers side had just been changed to get it through the MOT and the passenger side was an advisory on the last 2 MOT's), x2 new tyres, disks and pads, there was no record of a clutch change and as soon as you put the car in reverse the parking sensors went crazy thinking you were about to hit something (although this could have been the ugly massive tow bar on the back confusing it) Not for me!
